Why are you only looking at combat deaths? Total deaths related to the war was 117k with a 92 million population in 2 years. Vietnam war was 58k deaths with 192 million population with most deaths happening in an 8 year span. I don't know why you would try to compare these two wars and base the importance on the total deaths, but even when you try, WW1 was much more of a "major" war.
