I offer because it's fair. The same reason you split a bill with your friends. Absolutely no difference. It's normal human interaction. I'm not the only one. My female friends always offer to pay, and a smaller percentage hope the guy offers because hey, it benefits them to save the money. But it's never an expectation. The vast majority? Seriously? In my experience, personally and with friends of both genders, that's just not true anymore. The economy is tight and we're all in the same boat. A woman who pays for herself isn't really a catch anymore, it's standard. If that's not your experience, there might be some self selection issues there.
