Speak for yourself. If you wanna mess with me, I think you probably can. 'Cause I'm not confident and I'm weak for a man.

I planned to live in my truck for a while when I left an abusive woman.

With the disclaimer that #notalllefties and #notallrighties, I find in some cases the playbook of both have been virtually identical when they're in full-on echo chamber mode. Ive seen almost word for word the same "my side is rational and believes in facts. Not like those other guys" essay written by both sides. Partisanship is sad. It makes us all.tools.of the establishment who then get to decide what issues to fight over and set the narrative. Ultimately, even acts of defiance are just part o…

No, the plain meaning of freedom of speech is freedom of speech. The first amendment is not universal, nor is it a monopoly on the concept of freedom nor the concept of speech, nor any combination of the two. If I hire two thugs to knock you out if you say something I don't like, you are legally entitled to speak, but clearly you are not free to speak as long as I am preventing you from doing so. I am absolutely preventing you from being free to speak, thus practically eliminating your freedom o…

Freedom of speech is freedom of speech. On the internet it isn't a law, it's a principle. every server you don't own belongs to someone else and they can shut you down. The ideal has always been that you don't if you can help it. Today, we're losing that battle.

That's a pretty retarded thing to do...

Were lefties still bringing up John McCain's failed presidential run 2 years later? Sad.

I figured maybe it was a cost thing, but looking into it, they're cheap as dirt.

No, but it can be. Jokes like that have worked in the past. Understanding that the punchline is "I'm the victim here" but the real punchline is "I'm spoiled rotten and am overreacting to slightly less than total luxury"

It can be. It just needs to be self aware about it. Sort of like "1.5Mbps dsl line? That's like living in a third world country! We're all going to die here!"

Just like I'm against ascribing certain negative behaviours to masculinity, I'm also against ascribing other negative behaviours to femininity. She's just an entitled, spoiled jerk. It isn't her age, her gender, her race that makes her that way, it's her. We all choose how we interact with the world.

I liked this article. It didn't just jump on the bandwagon, it pointed out the reverse argument. If it is an advice column, flame away. If she is claiming it was hard to live on "so little", fire it up. If it's just a description of one person's budget, let's not attack someone just for being well off due to help being given. It's useful to know if the playing field is level.

"It just kind of happened" Why do I have a feeling a lot 'just kind of happens' to her?

Pure economic theory. Anything where there is high demand and low supply will result in buyers necessarily being less picky about who they hire because there aren't enough choices to be too discerning. You find criminal record checks increase during recessions and pull back during labor shortages.

Because none of us are company property, for one. We have a terrible history of companies trying to step in too far to people's personal lives. Black lists based on personally held political opinions. Sexual orientation. Religious beliefs. Personal association. Voting habits. Sexual prolictivities. Bank account balances. It's a dark history, considered embarrassing by those involved. In some jurisdictions, we've created laws to protect workers, because employers don't own workers and shouldn't b…

Right off the bat, who I'm romantically involved with is off the table. Who I voted for in the last election. Whether I got into a fight with my mom 9 years ago. That I'm discussing this topic in my time off work about my personal opinion. Almost none of my personal life is a company's business, unless I make it their business.

I can recognise that's reality and still think it's wrong. We don't live for the company. We give the company our time and skills so we can earn a living so we can be free to live as we please when not on company time, so long as we aren't trying to bring the company home (later she made her Twitter more a representation of her role in the company, fair game then, totally grant that) History tells us of companies that step into people's personal lives. Who to vote for. Who to love. Who to root f…

It is, and I don't agree with it. Dinna dox me bra, but if you did and found my old social media accounts, you'd see lots of flame wars from back in the day, or devil's advocate arguments, or times I was just being plain wrong or unfair. That shouldn't be a black mark on my permenent employment record, getting into an argument online.

Immaterial. Work should be work, home should be home. I think about the coin flipped -- should we have blacklists to make sure communists can't get work? Homosexuals? No, that's nobody's business at work unless and until an employee brings it to work.

Yes, I was unclear. Firing here is justified. Not hiring because someone's mean on their personal twitter is another case.

I think I was unclear. Represent the company, sure. Your job is always on the line. I'm referring more to using someone's personal twitter unconnected to the company to make decisions about the company.

In a perfect world, pretty much any profession. There's a lot of facts about my personal life that have no bearing on my job and aren't a potential employers business.

Fair enough. I'm only talking about what was on her Twitter before they hired her and befoshe made her personal Twitter a professional mouthpiece. I have a Facebook and a professional website. I expect the latter to affect my career. I don't expect the former to.

Not just for rapists. There's a whole realm of people trying to abuse the state to cause state authorities to harm, harass, or intimidate individuals. Rape accusations are one example, but there are also people who enter general false allegations that are not related to rape, or even people who swat others. I've experienced it first-hand, and it's terrifying. The legitimacy of the state, the lethal force threatened by police officers, when someone uses them as a means to abuse another it should …
