Three points: 1) You are not wrong about the Bradley Amendment, it is bad law, but it is what it is. Also, your combative attitude leads me to believe, to quote The Dude, "you're just [being] an asshole." Now, if you have been hurt by this law, my heart goes out to you and I understand your vitriol. But attacking someone on an online forum is not the time or place for your emotions. Seriously, why the fuck are you responding to me like this is a competition? This is the fundamental mistake Democ…

See my trial court argument above :) The system is FUBAR in many respects at that level because they simply do not have enough resources/training. Appeals are where the law is really settled.

Trial judges get stuff wrong all the time. This case has not gone up to the Court of Appeals or State Supreme Court as far as I can see. I would be interested in what they have to say. To give you context: I have a colleague who is suing a bank for unlawful foreclosure. The judge ruled against his argument that the bank essentially put the cart before the horse and recorded a deed before it existed. In its ruling, the trial judge did not even consider that argument and simply ruled that the bank…

Now you are splitting hairs on technicalities, any one of which being different could be the basis for reversal and remand for another hearing on the matter. You can appeal an order if you are improperly served and discover it before any time-bar for appeal runs. Furthermore, if the appeal is time-barred, you need to bring a separate action for modification of child support along with enough proof that meets the appropriate legal threshold in your jurisdiction to give grounds for an appeal. In m…

Not necessarily true. What you mention implies that the man was not served properly with a hearing notice. If she does not serve him properly, he can appeal the decision on grounds of improper service. Improper service is a big deal and grounds to overturn the order and grant a mew hearing on the topic. Would still be expensive and take at least the amount of time to note/argue another hearing, but an unknowing man has many tools at his disposal. Now if he were properly served and failed to appe…

I do not think that many of these issues women tout are non-issues. The fact that they are debated is evidence that an issue is there somewhere (be it fraud or true). Human hurt each other all the time, this is just one politically popular way of handling one of the deeper-ingrained issues that might or might not still be prevalent. Was OP advocating for a massive funding movement? What if a man wearing a dress in public is indicative that men's gender issues are being taken seriously? Is not th…

I'd wear em if it was socially acceptable. Why not? Fashion is something that is deeply intimate to most women I know. When you can connect with your SO on something so deeply ingrained in female culture (assuming you are a straight male), the mental high you get from that experience can be one of your most exhilarating memories. For me, I would rank such experiences up there with my GF asking me to help her get into football.

Women make those same kinds arguments about their issues when I talk about what men face (i.e., we have bigger fish to fry than poor lil' ol you and your hurts). Are we playing the famed Oppression Olympics already?

A lot of it is the father giving up before going before a judge and/or not getting an attorney when the mother did. If having the legal preference being shared custody is not fixing the problem (which is a mandate unto itself without adequate cause, such as a father not contesting an alternative properly), why would this law fix that? By way of analogy, did the Title IX re-enforcement efforts at colleges these past couple years decrease campus rape or just create a whole bigger cluster of fuck? …
/r/MensRights20/10/14 10:28 PM

What is the current presumption of custody in ND? My basic reading of the law leads me to believe that joint custody is preferred but that the best interest of the child controls. If that is true, then why are we trying to flip it to be joint custody controlling w/ the best interest of the children being preferred? Sorry, I am trying to understand the point of this campaign and am not familiar with ND laws. As someone who works in divorce law from time to time, at first it sounded cool. If those…

True, my comment was assuming the sentences would be disproportionate. If they are proportionate, then not really much you can do. In my jurisdiction, I do see women categorically get lighter sentences on misdemeanors & felonies.

Lawyer here. Sue the shit out of cities as part of a class action for disproportionate prison sentences. You probably wont win, you cannot sue the judges, and there is political gridlock virtually everywhere on the subject. You cannot fight these people, only mitigate their effects and hope to god a man becomes a martyr in a spectacular way to force some change from the politicians. Until then, play your hand close to the chest.

In one sense, this will ultimately turn out to be a good thing. That's a poison pill change, if true. It just really sucks for the people who are going to be victims in the meantime, but ultimately it will create an outcry from those same groups after their poor little baby boy gets raped by a mean and selfish girlfriend and nothing happens. It absolutely is all manufactured BS. Except for deodorant, I live in Seattle where people routinely go without deodorant. Trust me, we notice. As for the course, I highly doubt we will see a truly one-sided course if we take time attacking feminism for things like the activities in this article. Easy distinction to be made in court: The opportunity was to do the reverse of what your typical gender does as far as personal grooming is concerned. Write about your experiences in a journal. Present the finished document for extra credit. The fact that either gender had to do something different is irrelevant because (1) there are different genders with different requirements; and (2) the root assignment was based on doing the same kind of activity (reversing gendered grooming habits) as the …

Because I cannot say for certain. In some cases, perhaps. That is a question for the courts really. I think there is a case to be made that they should, but the US also has an excellent (read: consistent) track record of only paying for damages that affect its citizens + cause public outrage.

I would love if the US got better at regulating pollution. I don't think you and eye disagree so much in what needs to be done, just in how we view where we are starting. I see it as an incredible opportunity for us to turn things around. Mother nature is going to pretty much guarantee that we have no choice but to embrace this challenge (or die trying). Long story short, if anything, at least we are in a good position to be to future generations what those who survived the Great Depression and …

I fail to see where I said any of that. I really think you are reading too much into my very basic, two-sentence thought on the issue. To feel strongly one way or the other about any major issue like this generally means you have not thought through the arguments going for the other side. I think we definitely need to curb our pollution, I think we need to do it faster than slower. But, in all fairness, to think it is pertinent to go all "burn the witch" on the largest offenders and not focus pr…

I do not see a problem with women ogling the same way men do. Fuck it, maybe then they will learn why leaving all but the nipples and vaj bare can be so distracting. It's not that we want or seek to objectify you, it's that you turn yourself into an object when you dress to accentuate your sexual features. Maybe some time as the unabashed oglers will teach more women this lesson?
/r/MensRights26/06/14 05:36 PM

I thought the writing was rather elementary for a Harvard professor. The entire time it read like an undergrad wrote the piece. For example: "If we take the anonymous Harvard woman student as exemplary, her example shows that the feminist model of sexual independence is not suitable for women, and perhaps not for men either. The feminist model of sexual independence wants women to be equal to men; it is therefore taken from the independent male whose main feature is the ability to walk away from…

Once an org. begins an industry to "fix" a problem, it then develops a vested interest in having the problem continue, otherwise those that are paid to fight it will be out of the job. The MRM will one day be the same as feminism for this reason. I honestly have no idea how to address this issue.

I say good. Let them do this. For every sexist thing they put out, more people will start to see the flawed picture of demonizing men in favor of women. The more people against this dribble will rise up of their own accord. My dad managed people for years. He states he never fired someone a day in his life. Their own voluntarily fired themselves by their own actions. Let people like this fire themselves. Use it as an opportunity to educate people.

Just because you find something offensive does not mean you have the right to tell someone to stop doing it. I am not conflating feminism with women, I am arguing on a viewpoint that many women hold. There is a difference between equating both to be the same and noting that one group (i.e. women) has members who identify with the other thing (i.e. feminism). Dude, it's not just women. It is men too. We only see it from our side because that is our perspective. I have three sisters I had to grow up with and several nieces. I can tell you that many men treat them like absolute shit as well. I can understand where women come from and why feminism exists, just like why MRA exists from my own experiences. True, but that is a distinction that ignores the whole for the sake of convenience. To me, that is no better than a news telecast picking only the most damning-sounding points of a speech and tossing out anything that might mitigate the inferences they are trying to make the viewers make. If we want to actually accomplish something positive in the world instead of just keeping the battle going, we should strive to be better than that.

Please do not take this as an attack, I am merely trying to point out some issues I see with what you wrote. Namely that it seems to draw an arbitrary line in the sand, whether or not that was intended. I do not agree that feminism necessarily demonizes men by default because women are "oppressed." That being said, however, it sure as shit is being used that way for a lot of them. Most women I know IRL who identify as feminist tend to not realize their sweeping statements are so sexist until you confront them with "Oh I agree that you go through bullshit and it is terrible, I experience something similar but from the other side. Feminism is now an industry. It has a vested interest in keeping women oppressed on paper, yet favored in practice.
/r/MensRights27/05/14 08:03 PM

Think of it this way: men are going on strike against these women. Nature is selecting them as being incompatible with reproduction. Many women, such as yourself are seeing the bullshit of these views. Men like women like you because you value us as humans. Chances are, based on what I see, you won't tolerate a male who doesn't treat you the same. Natural selection.

But when both parties insist that the government abdicate the responsibility of one of the parties and the government refuses to listen on a technicality, it removes the "child's best interests" from the equation and replaces it with a rote government process that is incredibly easy for average citizens to royally fuck up. No, I did not. Please see my original post. What I tried to simplify was that people look at these issues purely from a self-interested standpoint and often take the subject out of the scope of the original discussion without consideration for the original points or the audience. Totally. I think addressing the utter harshness of being a man, being critical about it is a great way to help this out. If we show up and be there for them, they will be more likely to be there for us. For instance, this challenge: It's easy to throw the blame, anyone can do it and it's our first instinct. It's way harder to be the bigger person and extend the olive branch.

It seems every single one has something about it which is intended to draw only the most militant feminists out. For instance, this post is titled "Mens' Issues" in a feminism SR. Right away it is almost begging for mod attention because it is, as the mod points out, off topic. Secondly, the content does nothing to start a dialogue, it merely tells women to look at a mens' issue without any cont…

Honestly, to butcher some crazy radfem's quote, "It's probably a good this happened to a feminist. Now they can see what we go through first hand."

It's great here! ^except ^for ^winter. I have a buddy who just moved here from GA and he is depressed as hell this first winter because he is not used to the weather and he doesn't understand how the Seattle freeze works quite yet. People here are generally pretty chill, but super PC about EVERYTHING. Even bringing up MR issues is taboo unless you couch the issue in a sense of "unintended effects of fighting the patriarchical society that make men clam up and cli…

Damn son. It is stories like this that male me grateful for what I have right now. I was lucky enough to meet a total egalitarian. She had some incomplete thoughts on gender issues (as do we all), but she is always open to the other side and for finding a happy middle ground. I didn't come here to try and make you feel bad. Rather, I want to tell you there are "good" women out there that are worth being discriminate for. If you find a woman with slightly backwards motives, start pressing her on …

I live in Seattle, have a bunch of really liberal friends who would think that norm is dumb. I also have a ton of conservative friends from GA who love tradition. I should post this and see who comes to play.

If that's true, imagine how unstable it was when that trait first developed. I wonder if it caused as much conflict as modern day genderists who fight for bucking the norms?

Oh totally, but for him he was probably also furious during this and acted out of characteristics. He knew he was sterile and now she was pregnant. What would that mean to you in his shoes? It doesn't excuse the malice, but I do understand why he felt the way he did.

Hey, so I wanted to drop you a few lines as a 27 year old male who went through similar things in college (based on your responses). I was never accused of rape, but I started my years away from home in a relationship that was really abusive --- both mentally and physically. I'm talking this girl belittled me, called me pathetic, wimp, etc.. She hit me a bunch too when she didn't get her way. When I tried to break up with her, she threatened to call the cops whom she was friends with, and tell t…

If they can manage a conviction despite all that (assuming the evidence shows consent), then I'd be colored surprised. Thankfully, juries are more than college students. Now those campus courts ....

As an aside. Next time your friend brings that up, ask them how they think that makes you feel. Ask them why sex is so bad between two people. Ask them if they are fine ostracizing an entire group of people based on an immutable characteristic and the actions of a very select few scum. Then, if yes to the above, ask them to fetch their black slave to find you two something to drink and eat while the discussion continues. Call her on her bullshit. But don't hold a grudge if she changes her tune.

You're not validating the facts. You're validating someone's personage by giving a nod to the things they care about. Whether or not what you say to them after helps fix the inaccurate parts of a view is another matter. Give others dignity and they will listen. Crassly take it away and most people will gladly join your targets in casting you out.

I'm still trying to come up with a good way to address this in person. I like the idea of different power structures vs. personal experiences of those not in power.
/r/MensRights03/01/14 03:06 AM

If you want validation, you will also need to validate others.

You either die a hero or live to see yourself become a villain. Another good quote is "first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." Which stage do you think men and the women who think of them as people are at re: modern feminists?

That's usually the case. The best way to handle this is to write a blog post commenting on the article and then link that in the comments.

I never ignored it, I even mentioned it twice. Just because I don't agree with the characterization does not mean I do not see the difference between American slavery from our early years and economic-legal slavery. I am saying there are different slaveries and to measure any analogy of slavery to only one type, especially now that you have people tell you there are different types, is willful ignorance to the point being made. This does not need to be an argument really, it is a stupid semantic…

Was it comparing it to that? I thought it simply said slavery, not American slavery against blacks ... Slavery takes place in many forms and means different things to different people. Forcing the word to mean one particularized instance in how it occurred at one point (in a time where no one living even experienced it, in this case) forecloses any other possibilities of using it in all but the most egregious circumstances. You can't simply hold a definition to mean only one thing in this societ…

That's a pretty sweeping statement? What about sperm jackers, contraceptive liars, serial support seekers, and female rapists who do it to get pregnant? That is imposing someone else into debt slavery completely against their will in all accounts. You can focus on those men who were naive enough to believe in love or dumb enough to knock a girl up, but that ignores quantifiable portions of this prison population who are subject to a much more sinister and well-established trend. Not allowing a m…

The law is the same, but with words. My girlfriend said to me the other day when I was re-writing my resume that I need to learn to speak English again because she did not know what half the words on the resume even meant. But it's those distinctions that convey real meanings and can direct the traffic of the legal process, so to speak. Honestly, an IT professional being a lawyer would yield a ton of patent jobs. It is one of the few fields that is hiring like crazy. If you could get a decent sc…

/r/MensRights17/12/13 09:45 PM

Yes I see what you are saying, but in a legal sense that is not what the words you used mean. You are defining a privilege, and it is your right to that privilege, but the attorney is not what you have a right to. I am sorry, this kind of stuff is terribly confusing and stupidly parsed out by courts to avoid colloquial changes over time as best they can, but yeah just felt that this distinction needed to be made because one could arguably assume that right to attorney means one would be guarante…

Correct my civil procedure if I am, wrong it has been a few years since I've had to deal with studying these issues. I was under the impression that if the private university was operating in a quasi-public capacity, such as accepting public money for certain services or legislating areas normally reserved for government entities, then they can be reached through 1983 when they abuse that. Now I don't know all the facts of the university itself, but my bet is they receive some form of public fun…

Try getting sued in civil court and demand you have a right to an attorney without you yourself paying for one. What you are thinking of is a privilege, not a right. A right is immutable in most circumstances and is required to be honored under the law - even at public expense. A privilege merely allows you to employ the benefits but not necessarily so.

See that's the issue. Fighting the hypothetical is not going to get a good response. It's just fighting a combative stance with more combat. Is not the goal discourse over verbal fisticuffs? Who cares if that's what they really think when there are instances when people clearly misinterpret them? Look at any number of posts of men interacting with other women here and you will see this stance is taken often. Should the solution to the issue be stopping them and fighting them, or finding a new wa…

In my experience, most men who are passionate about mens' issues start off these arguments saying that women have done bad things too, with the inference that women are bad. I do not personally think women are bad. It is, as you say, something that I think might happen if not thought through to its fullest.

Those statements makes it more palatable to people who aren't men who've experienced this. You can't win alone.

I like this but HOLD UP, WAIT A MINUTE BEFORE GOING IN THERE! Don't start off accusing them of doing something wrong. Don't start off going into why women are bad. Don't try to make the argument purely logical. None of these will work because it will trigger negative emotions, and people do not respond well to negative emotions (especially when the implication is for them to admit they are wrong). DO talk about how there are issues which affect men which society (that weird amalgamation of every…

Man, I must have a pretty face or something because even the radical feminists I know smile and say "thank you" when I hold doors open for them. It's not sexist, it's just manners. If my dead grandma saw me or any of my sisters not hold the door for someone, she would be tugging us by the ear into the next room to yell at us for not showing some common decency.

What /u/rykocolor said was spot on. Also, touch on the legal system with respect to the men. For instance, with respect to childcare, I saw a chart breakdown before that was pretty nice, but I'll try and explain it: On one hand, if a man and a woman want to have a child, it will almost certainly be born. On the other hand, if the woman wants an abortion but the man doesn't, there really is not much he can do to stop her because it is her body. If they both don't want it, then chances are the kid…

But also, we don't know if anything she alleges is true as well. Simply assuming that one side is right over another is, of course, a huge mistake. Since she is the one asserting the claims, the burden of proof is on her to substantiate her allegations. If she can only show shared living as BF/GF, etc., then she can't argue it was out of not getting around to getting married without some sort of proof. To do so would be hearsay, at best, and any judge worth his salt would take the testimony for …

I'm not sure if I'm fed up with feminists, in general. Most have been very receptive to men's issues when I couch the issues to them along the lines of: "You still need to make gains, but just like the Jews should be aware of what they are doing to the Palestinians now that they escaped annihilation, women must be careful not to push men into the same kind of shoes they once were trapped in." When they start saying things about shit women clearly experience and men don't on such a scale, I cite …

That's the rub of it. Most trans people themselves cannot articulate what it is that is wrong, it simply is. Think of it like being born with scoliosis or any other number of medical issues. The person experiencing it has no idea how they got that way (for the most part), all they know is that something is not right and they can feel it.

I think all religions throughout history have proven that this, unfortunately, never happens =\ At least our issues are becoming more noticeable! I didn't realize we were gaining steam until my die-hard feminist(ish) girlfriend made clear her adamant stance that men need a similar movement to promote equality and prevent feminists from essentially becoming the thing they are preaching against. Before she said that, I had not even seen this sub, nor had I taken any kind of overt stance against a …
