I think deep down the vast majority of men fear false paternity. Until very recently in human history men couldn’t be certain their kids were really theirs. Therefore men care a lot about being physically desired by their partners. When you tell a man they are husband material it can be inferred that they are the safe, dependable, boring guy that is a good partner as opposed to the guys you lust for and have one night stands/ affairs with.

My biggest criticism with the Barbie movie is the character Alan. It teaches young girls that they can have a platonic relationship with the shy nerdy boy and it won’t blow up in their face (I.e. she just wants to be friends and he falls in love)

I don’t think that friendship and a romantic relationship are the same. You may have a lot in common with somebody and really enjoy their company but you don’t want to date them. Attraction is partially about shared interests/liking each other’s company but also involves physical attraction, and a spark etc.

What I’m getting at is she just sees him as a friend and only a friend but men misinterpret friendly female interest as romantic interest and then develop a crush

I think what happens is a girl and a guy start out as friends, talk about their shared interests, hang out etc. The guy notices how much she likes spending time with him and something in his subconscious is triggered into thinking she must like me and she would be a good mate and and then he involuntarily develops a crush on her. It’s not that anybody’s being evil or manipulative.

I don’t think it’s a man/woman thing rather all humans are a bit egocentric and hypocritical. We all want to be picky with our partners but hope others will not do that with us. It’s probably evolutionary, those that felt they shouldn’t be judged on their qualities may have approached more/higher quality mates and succeeded. There’s a study saying if men approach women out of their league there’s an 18% chance of succeeding, which isn’t bad.

Men have an inherent fear of false paternity. They don’t want to be tricked into investing resources into a child that isn’t genetically theirs. For most of human history there was no effective birth control so if a woman cheated there was a high chance of false paternity. Also, for most of human history there was no way of checking paternity. Therefore, the best way for men to confirm paternity is to select women who did not show traits that suggested promiscuity. As for the comment on women no…

If a woman or a man has a friend they know is infatuated with them, they should cut off the friendship.

People are getting mad at guys who end up in the friendzone because they think that guys are trying to lead a woman on by saying they want to be friends but really want to date them. Guys often will start to hangout with girls and as the friendship develops guys misinterpret friendly interest as romantic interest and something in their subconscious tells them “this girl likes you, you should like them back” and then the guy becomes infatuated. Also, whatever gender someone is, we should have mor…

I think you need to be insane to think that the patriarchy still exists today. The majority of college graduates are now women and I think in most elite professions (apart from engineering) the majority are women. If you believe in patriarchy you have to believe the world is run by a bunch of misogynistic men who are responsible for modern medicine, the atomic bomb, microchips, space exploration etc. but can’t keep women out of prestigious institutions.

I think a lot of men are instinctually weary of being call husband material (or something to that affect) because of alpha f***s/beta bucks. Guys don’t want to be the victims of false paternity. Therefore for most men it’s really important that their partner is physically attracted to them.

I have this theory that just as Dads don’t want their daughters dating Mums don’t want their sons dating. Toxic Dads may want to assault their daughter’s boyfriends but toxic Mums do something more insidious. They mould their sons into a guy who they know other women won’t be attracted to (I.e. shy, passive, compliant etc.).

I think in this day and age we are trained to always want something better. Sometimes that’s good, for example if you are dissatisfied with work you can study to get a better job. But that constant desire for more leads to us finding faults with our partners. I think in previous generations people were taught to be grateful which made it easier to have long term, happy relationships.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
