Why should someone have to identify themselves while driving or checking into a hotel? I suppose it’s to eliminate suspicion or establish a right to be there. I’m surprised this hasn’t been discussed more during ‘lockdown’. It’s quite normal in many countries to be challenged like that. In France, during the COVID, they have enforced a radius people may travel from their homes and the number of times one can exit per day. (It didn’t stop them from ‘losing’ 100 immigrants a day though) My point w…

Nope, it’s actually not necessary to carry ID in the UK. Birth certificate is not proof of identity anyway. I suppose her BC names him as the father but I don’t really know what he was thinking when he mentioned these things or what the hotel or police would have accepted. I have a 10 YO son and he has a passport but I’ve never needed to show it to check into a hotel in the UK

He only spoke of identifying himself. I don’t know how he would prove the identify of the child unless she has a passport. Lots of children don’t have their father’s name 😕

You are correct and I’m sure that totally made sense in the 1950s but given the various nationalities on UK roads today and the distances that drivers cover it is no longer fit for purpose. Bad people won’t bother turning up at the station and police have missed an opportunity to apprehend them. Unlike the first format I had in the 1990s, the current DL fits in a wallet and is plastic. It’s easy to carry and durable. Every other country I have lived in has required me to have means of identifica…

Yes, home advantage is almost universal. Even dogs will be stronger in defence of their territory than when offside, raiding unfamiliar territory. Locals tend to be in tune with their habitat and environment. But in Europe we forget all of that. Call it ‘white privilege’ and implement policies that favour newcomers, even downright nasty ones

You’re funny if you think warmongering leaders are truthful about their motives. I struggle to think of any national leader or even a well-known politician who is completely straight about their motives. They’ll announce tax cuts for hardworking families, but they won’t be. They’ll say that increased lending or lower interest rates - QE - is to give relief for ‘homeowners’ (sounds so cute, right?) but they’ll be a bailout for reckless lenders and speculators. Any leader who declares they are goi…

I don’t disagree with you but I doubt I’d have success if I, quite similarly, tried to explain that the Atlantic slave trade empowered individuals by taking oppressed people from their captors and transferring them and their descendants to a better life in a country that modern Africans dream of going to

Sounds exactly like Scottish ‘independence’. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿“I’m moving out, England. After over 300 years of free movement, great adventures and synergy I want to stand on my own two feet...” 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿”You should have a vote, check it’s what people really want” 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿”It’ll be a once in a generation vote so come on, people of Scotland, take this seriously, you’ve one chance!” 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿“Oh, ok” 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿”Aww shite, can we have another vote? We’re huvin another vote, and maybe one efter that.”... Eventually S…

You’re right; in the end, the pass was recognised by some people it seems. My reason for posting here was that ‘the date’ denied the pass. I’ve heard of women getting chippy if the guy shows up a bit shorter or whatever than they expected so he was within his rights to put her back on the train if the goods were not as described in the pictures 😂
