There is still a huge wage gap and only a fraction of upper level positions are filled by women. That aside, sex work IS often their only option. Girls that grew up in foster homes and low socioeconomic households (often means one parent who must work 2 jobs so no supervision for the children) are exposed to sex work early on as a means to make money.
