Don't let your wife talk you into feeling inadequate while pulling in a top salary. All men, especially breadwinners, feel like if they made that next level, they could finally stop worrying. You know this is wrong: Making more money will make me happy and remove my feelings of anxiety. This just isn’t true… But you've failed to internalize it. First, realize that there is no amount of money that is going to make you feel less anxious about money. I used to be pretty anxious about the treasury…

I'd say the trust factor is more about you trusting yourself. When you start MRP, you've realized the things you put your trust in (women, the world, etc. owing you something) are not panning out. So what to do? You know you can't trust yourself, so you read. You put in the work. Owning your shit is trusting yourself that you can handle your shit. Avoiding, DEERing, projecting are a manifestation of your frame that you cannot handle your shit. Call it confidence, call it frame, ultimately the ba…

On this front, I'd start Dreading the church and building your life outside of that social circle. I'd imagine that aside from the ramifications on your marriage, leaving the church would mean the loss of nearly your entire social circle. What are you doing to make the stay plan the go plan for your social life?

I said I was finishing up within half an hour, but she took a tool I needed and refused to give it back because apparently she would be able to do it faster. . . .So I did the beta thing, and DEERed You were already DEERing. As you OYS, watch out for flag-waving, look at me Mommy behavior. I foresee a lot of "If I do everything, then she'll have to respect me" covert contracts in your future.

OYS 7 5/15 In an effort to avoid seeking validation, I’m going to trim down my OYS to problems/goals/feedback items. Otherwise, I’ll avoid the details of my improvement. Also trying to make goals more specific to avoid a bunch of wishy-washy bullshit. Frame/OI/Validation On going goals from last week: Seek internal validation. Is this what I want? Am I satisfied? When she is shit-testing, avoid knee-jerk reactions and think through my response. I would like to scratch the last two off the list, …

Yes. It wouldn't typically be this acutely connected, but wife's radar has been pricking up. My attempts at STFU have been autistic, so instead of getting her hamster working, I come off as the wrong kind of asshole (insecure and brooding rather than cocky and confident). Thanks for highlighting this.

OYS 6 5/8 In an effort to avoid seeking validation, I’m going to trim down my OYS to problems/goals/feedback items. Otherwise, I’ll avoid the details of my improvement. Also trying to make goals more specific to avoid a bunch of wishy-washy bullshit. Frame/OI/Validation Had a few failed shit tests this week. I’m reacting too quickly. I’ve managed to pull out of most of these after an initial reaction of butthurt, but it isn’t as effective. I need to think and stop reacting. I’ve gone a little Ra…

"Life got in the way". This is my favorite excuse, too. Life will always get in the way.

This is very useful, especially the part about budgeting 6 months out. Another suggestion I would make is to begin tracking spending. Do that for 3 months straight. You'll probably tighten up simply from monitoring. Then multiply out by 12. Add in your infrequent expenses such as insurance and property taxes, etc. Then crunch an quick profit/loss on your household. What would a year look like at this pace? Armed with data, the real question is, "does my spending align with my values?" When most …

OYS 5 4/24 Mission Create a life of financial independence and social abundance. Pursue meaningful work and hobbies. Be a leader within my family, company, and community. Create a legacy worth passing down to those worthy of inheriting it, within my family and beyond. Build the future while living in the now. Frame/Self-Image/Approval Seeking Frame has been slowly building. I’ve been killing the covert contracts around the house, and this has resulted in less stress and conflict. It’s also had t…

Have you tried the clean towell method? Heard of it, haven't tried it. I'll give it a shot starting next week.

OYS 4 4/17 Mission Create a life of financial independence and social abundance. Pursue meaningful work and hobbies. Be a leader within my family, company, and community. Create a legacy worth passing down to those worthy of inheriting it, within my family and beyond. Frame/Self-Image/Approval Seeking Failed a few shit tests. I have an unattractive habit of being extremely defensive. This is due to a weak frame and approval seeking. This is the root cause of every other beta trait, in my opinion…

OYS 3 Mission Create a life of financial independence. Pursue meaningful work and hobbies. Be a leader within my family, company, and community. Create a legacy worth passing down to those worthy of inheriting it, within my family and beyond. (This is my first draft of my mission. A bit wishy washy, I will be redrafting this during my OYS posts) Leadership/Relationship A back and forth week. Wins: Wife accidently overflowed the bathtub while cleaning the house and I was preparing dinner. She sta…

I think the point here is "men who aren't doing what fulfills them because they are waiting for permission from a gatekeeper they themselves have created" . But that kinda blows up the structure of the poem.

I totally agree to get your match, then max an IRA. I've already maxed both my and my wife's IRA, plus a family HSA that will be maxed by year end. Fees are extremely reasonable, and funds offered are pretty decent. I am as diversified as possible as I invest exclusively in VTSAX/VGTSX. I'm actually shooting for financial independence rather than traditional "retirement" money.

OYS 2 Fitness: Lifts are hovering here as I continue to cut down. Dropping about a pound a week, which is a good pace at this point. Each are personally estimated 1 rm based on current rep efforts. BP: ~250 SQ: ~320 DL: ~415 Plan: Continue eeking out small gains/fighting strength loss as I cut down. Diet is dialed in, adding light cardio as weight loss stalls. Financials: Another great month. On track to max 401k by July. Will shift to building up a cash pad at the end of the year. Plan: Continu…

OYS 1 I'm a shitty juggler and so I tend to do best focusing on one area and goal at a time. Fitness and financials are very strong. Relationships are decent, and I'm a naturally outgoing guy, so these are also on the back burner. Grinding on a career change right now, and can't do much to speed things along but keep my head down and work. Frame/Self-Image: This is an area that I need to address. I have no frame to speak of. I constantly seek the validation of others. I fear being alone. I use…

I've been lifting for a little over a decade, but I've never achieved the look that I want. The past two months, I've been cutting slowly, shooting for about 1-2 pounds a week. Progress has been steady, abs are starting to poke through. Strength is dropping, but I always use that as an excuse to throw calories back in and stay fat, so fuck it, no one cares what I squat anyway. My fitness plan has grown stagnant and I want some fresh goals and exercises to train while I trim down. I just ordered …

I've lurked here on and off, and this seems like a great reason to join. This is perfect timing for me, as my schedule and life are opening back up a bit after a 4 month season of laser focus on a single goal. It's time to step back and evaluate where I stand and where I'm heading.

A few days late, but I've been lurking and this is the perfect kick in the ass I need to register and join in. I won't be very active until after Saturday, as this is my last week to study for the LSAT.
