Quick anecdote on a related subject : a few years ago I had to undergo surgery for an inguinal hernia, and during a discussion with a nurse, she outright told me that when closing a patient after surgery, special care was always taken when the patient is a woman, so that the scar ends up being as unnoticeable as possible, but when it's a man, they mostly don't give a shit about leaving a big, visible scar. /e : This is in Belgium, not the UK.

Just one thing, one thing, because I stumbled upon that a few minutes ago on r/belgium, and its just beautiful. For a second, put aside the fact that I have my opinion, and you have yours. None of us is the crowned king of Men's Rights Movement, none of us gets to decide what is and what isn't important. Its a sensible thing to do, right ? Now, opinions being put aside, facts remain, and the other thing I've been saying from the start is that this information ( women and kids boarding buses befo…

Let's see... Having no qualms recuperating a tragic attack ( dozens killed, hundreds wounded, some still missing, men and women alike ) and nitpicking about one tiny detail to say that you are oppressed Quickly resorting to insults ( to be perfectly blunt, fuck off ), even mild ones, when your feefees are hurt because you misunderstood what an other person said Ignoring entirely other people's opinion on the subject ( multiple users on this very thread ) if it is in disaccord with your own Makin…

I'm asking myself the same question. I liked this sub, but as of late, it's starting to look more and more like feminism, too much mindless hate, petty behavior, and worrying about insignificant shit. I think I'll see myself out, there's nothing for me here.

Honestly I would prefer my wife and kid be escorted first, and my friends wife and kid as well. Not necessarily because of chivalry. Because it's a part of who I am. I'm sure there are many men on here who would feel the same. I'm with you on that one. But someone is probably gonna think that it's because we were raised to be slaves to women or some shit like that... I also thinks it's kinda shitty to try use this event in a political way less than 24 hours after it happened.' Yup. Being a Belgi…

Men are allowed to react in a similar manner. Most men don't do it, with reason, because it's cruel and in bad taste, but there's no law keeping them from doing it. Would tabloids and public opinion try to shun a man who chose to laugh at a story where the victim is a woman ? Almost certainly. But he is still allowed to do it, no one is keeping him from saying what he wants to say. And that would be a very good occasion to point to the double standard.

I don't disagree that some women may be laughing due to other reasons, but so what? No one claimed anything different anyway. The thread is titled "Why does everyone find news stories about castration so funny?", so I click on it, read the article, then come back on Reddit to read the comments, and I see that the most upvoted post is a simple "Because they hate men!". The second one is "Yeah it couldn't be simpler.". Seeing this, it's reasonable to think that quite a few people have this idea th…

I'm not putting everyone in the same basket, and I should have said it more clearly. But the thing is, it's not the first or only time I've seen it happen here. Lately, it feels like there's more people who are ok with the idea of just blatantly saying "hurr durr women hate men, them be bitches amiright guyz, high five anyone ?!" without adding anything else. Look at the two top comments on this thread. "Why? Because they hate men!" & "Yeah it couldn't be simpler". Cue the dozens of upvotes from…

You know, just because she does actually acknowledged some men as people, and therefore does not hate those men, does not mean that she couldn't or doesn't hate men in the more general sense of the word. [...] You can't say a woman doesn't hate men, just because she's cool with some men while acting like a complete sociopath towards some other major male demographics. That is very true. But I have to say that in her case, she really does not hate men, nor does she have any hostile dispositions t…

Maimed and mutilated men are indeed a source of comedy, I don't find it funny, but obviously some people do ( wrongly ), it's a fact, otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion. And no, I most certainly did not try to excuse or justify it. Again, people laughing at men's genitals being injured are stupid and ignorant. I can not say it any more clearly. Saying they are stupid for laughing at it is not excusing or justifying their behavior. It's trying to pinpoint the exact reason for their b…

Oh no, I'm absolutely not excusing the behavior of people laughing at maimed men. Its downright despicable. What I'm saying is that the cause for this laughter is not always simply hate. And we need to know the exact cause of this ill-placed laughter if we are hoping to do anything about it.

Yes, somehow this is it, not exactly, but very close. The pay gap is a myth, at least where I live it is. On the other hand the empathy gap is very real. For many reasons ( education and traditional gender roles being the most important ones I think ), most people will have a tendency to empathize with women but not always with men. If someone really, sincerely detests men, it's extremely hard to change their views on the subject, hate, there's no reasoning with. But if someone is laughing at a …

Of course I acknowledge that. It's all around me, almost every day, unfortunately I've experienced this double standard many times. And I think people being all up in arms when something like that happens to a women, stems from the same reason people laugh at men being emasculated : stupidity and/or ignorance. As I'm sure almost everybody knows one way or another, traditionally, men are perceived as many things, and some of these things are being physically strong, emotionally withdrawed, and re…

On that point, yes she was. I think there's nothing wrong with being dumb as long as you learn from it, god knows I've been dumb about some things. On a side note, this sub is getting weird. I was expecting downvotes while writing this post, and boy it didn't take long. If I write a reply saying that women hate men, women are evil bitches, I get a ton of upvotes. If I suggest that on this one case it might be something other than pure unadulterated hate against men as a whole, and simply talking…

Not necessarily. I'm gonna be brutally honest here, and say that in my opinion most people ( women and men alike ) laughing at emasculated men, laughing at castrated men, are not hating men, they are simply being stupid and ignorant. Yes, some of them are man-hating women, and some of them are self-hating men, but most of them are simply people who don't think. Recently I mentioned to my girlfriend that some men are getting beat up by women, by their partner. I can assure you she does not hate m…

That's one of the biggest problems. This "patriarchal stereotype" as he calls it is only considered bad when it suits an agenda or a politically correct way of thinking, very rarely do I see someone admitting in the same sentence that this same "patriarchal stereotype" as a ton of benefits for society. This "problematic patriarchal stereotype" is the reason why men carry cinderblocks, stones, wood and everything else to build houses. Women don't want to do it. Men, because they're though and str…

I'm a bit surprised to see that on the Dailymail. Alos, the comments section of the article is surprisingly sane. Nevertheless : If men hadn't of been subjecting women to this kind of behaviour constantly throughout time, I dare say this wouldn't be happening. Women have definitely become more masculine in their behaviours in an effort to 'keep up' with men. There's always at least one person thinking that. It's amazing how there's always someone to say that it's not women's fault.

Men talk too much. In February, Emma Watson (Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films) announced she was going to take a year off of acting to pursue activism and personal development. She is already the global face of the UN’s HeForShe gender equality campaign. Be inspired by following her and that campaign on whatever social media platforms you are on. And when progressive groups at our sons’ schools have a feminist bake sale and charge boys $1 and girls only $0.72, we need to applaud that. …

Oh wow, 2.8% ?! I knew thing where bad, but that is just terrible. I live in Belgium, so things are a little bit different here, but not that much, the vast majority of teachers in kindergarten and elementary are women. I myself had only female teachers when in was little, not a man in sight.

I offer to read to her, and she plops down on my lap in the middle of the room. I look up and the Mom is giving my sister-in-law "the look", as in "is he safe with kids?". Oh how I hate that look. I'm a pretty relaxed guy, but that god damned look is one of the rare things that I truly can't stand.

It really is. As a man ( 27 years old ), I've been called a pervert or potential pedophile multiple times, for some ridiculous stuff, simply because kids tend to like me. For example, a few years ago while taking the train, a group of about twenty kids ( 4 to 10 years old ) came aboard and started sitting all around me, they were going on a trip, supervised by five girls in their twenties. Disadvantaged kids, from very poor families, with moms beating them in a drunken stupor, junkie dads, sexua…

Regarding Cenk, I don't think he would necessarily hate Armenians. Had he been born 70 years earlier, right in the thick of it, maybe, but now, not necessarily. I also don't see why he would have a problem working with Ana because of her ethnicity, he says the Armenian genocide didn't happen, so why would there be a problem between ? Everything's cool in his book. Regarding Ana, I've stopped thinking of her as a serious journalist/commentator/whatever long ago, facts do not matter to her, as she…

Oh I know. But from that same link : Origin of young turk Young Turks, a 20th century revolutionary party in Turkey First Known Use: 1908 So, Cenk Uygur is turk, as in "born in Istanbul", his show is called "The Young Turks", which originally was the name of a turkish political movement responsible for the Armenian Genocide, and Cenk Uygur denies the Armenian genocide ever happened. Of course they do, it's The Young Turks, joke journalism at its best. Their entire schtick revolves around half-assed commentary of news they take elsewhere, jumping to conclusions at an alarming speed, often through a thought process that boggles the mind, and pushing forward unverified or downright false information. I mean, they're named after the Turkish movement responsible for the Armenian genocide, and Cenk Uygur outright denies it ever happened. They're a joke, a big, very funny joke. Or…

Ok, now this, this is downright amazing. “Most existing glaciological research – and hence discourse and discussions about cryospheric change – stems from information produced by men, about men, with manly characteristics, and within masculinist discourses [...] ” It's not that glaciers are sexist, sure, they can be hard to read, they can be cold, sometimes you just feel them slipping away from you and there's not much you can do it, they're glaciers, it's what they do, but they are not sexist. …

Well, since the patriarchy only needs women to make babies, and there's a rapist waiting at each and every corner, a woman making it to her forties without having a kid means that she was strong enough to not succumb to societal pressure and expectations, nor to the violating clutches of every man she ever met. If that doesn't deserve at the very least a round of applause, I don't know what does ! Seriously though, this is getting downright silly. I don't have a kid. I'll never have a kid. But t…

I strongly encourage everyone to go and read the comment section of this article on Ars, there is a lot of very informative posts. For my part, I think this study came with an agenda, looking for a bias, and many parameters were not factored in.

Yeah, as others have already pointed out, tubal ligation is a very good option for her, quite probably the best. Forcing your husband to undergo a procedure that she could get done to yourself is, well, not really a smart thing to do. I mean, I get it, with all those complications she got dealt a real shitty hand reproduction-wise, but the problem lies within her own body, not her husband's.

Pushing their personal agenda and/or doing the right stuff to advance their career. When talking about this kind of pseudo-journalism, I think that's what it really comes down to. When I was seventeen and in stonemasonry school, a young journalist and her cameraman came one afternoon, because a local tv station wanted a report on the school and the kind of craft that was taught there. We were eight boys in that class, and she wanted me for an interview, because I was well-spoken and less rude ( …

"I do think some survivors at home watching this will look at their behaviour both before and after the assault and believe that they don't stand a chance and that they wouldn't want to go through a criminal trial. and they may not report it to the police," says Ellis. My biggest problem with this article lies in this quote, apparently from Joe Biden : We will only know victory when every woman who has had a hand wrongfully laid on her doesn't ask herself, "What did I do to deserve this?" and when every person who has physically wronged a woman does not even attempt to justify their actions. Yes, rapists should go to jail. Yes, men who beat the shit out of a women ( or anyone for that matter ) just for the fun of it should go to jail. But goddammit, no respons…

From the start, this case has evoked powerful emotions. Many of us hoped Mr. Ghomeshi’s accusers would prevail, and that they would help give voice to the many silent victims of sexual assault who have never been heard. If the case collapses – as seems increasingly likely – lots of people will be outraged, and will want to know why. And other people will wonder if there ever really was a case at all. So if I'm reading this right, " many people " hoped for his accusers to prevail when their alleg…

So, women are as violent as men, and in relationships where the violence only goes one way, women are more likely to be the perpetrator. Thus, lets teach women to be less violent so as to not see them getting hurt when the guy defends himself. Nice.

I live in Belgium, here, circumcision is basically non-existent outside of it being done on religious purpose by jewish people. Honestly, I don't think I've ever even heard anyone talk about it in my entire life, and I'm not exaggerating. I was born in 1988, and I remember clearly that when I was about 14 years old, I saw an episode of a short-lived sitcom called Off Centre. This episode, called " The Unkindest Cut ", sees Euan, one of the protagonists, who is english, being teased by two of his…

Not the guy you asked, but hell, I'll give it a shot. Disclaimer : I'm a huge fan of Supernatural, and I hate with a passion the episodes in which she appeared, I rolled my eyes so many times watching them, I basically spent more time watching the ceiling than the episodes themselves. I recently went for a re-run of the entire series up to the current season, and I still can't bring myself to watch those episodes.
