There's a large disconnect between urban and rural US. I live in an area with no public transit and the closest hardware store is 20 miles out. Granted, all three of my vehicles are bangers and I'm going to drive them 'til the wheels fall off them, and I agree that most US citizens view vehicles as accessories rather than utilities, but understand that there are parts of the US where vehicles aren't necessarily wanted but needed.
