Someone further down the thread brought up a good point: yes women use healthcare more then men, but why is that? Men should be going in for prostate exams, and yearly checkups for blood pressure, heart disease, etc, but the just shrug it off and don't go. I just turned 30, and I'll admit that I don't go as often as I should. I don't even have a doc would go to if I needed to. I just wait until it's bad enough I need to go to the urgent care. That's not a good thing.

So are repairs to your car, but state governments require you to have car insurance all the time. Personally I think there should be a public option if we're going to stick with the private insurance market, but that wasn't going to happen, so increasing demand to bring down costs works for me for now.

Yup. Women basically had to pay more because they are the ones having babies. Personally, I don't think this is an issue we need to take on. Yes women are paying less and men are paying more. But we're all paying the same now. I'm ok with that.

OK, seriously, I know MRA is often accused of being mysoginistic, but I think this is the first time I've seen it in action. They are called firefighters regardless of gender. It's a more badass name than "firemen" anyway. Don't get all butthurt about it. By saying that there are women involved in fighting the blaze doesn't imply that they make up half of the workforce.

In the US, marrying more than one person is illegal, because of all of the benefits the government gives married couples (which is why gays are clamoring for equality in marriage). You can date more than one person if you want of course, but as the OP said, society looks down on it. I have known a few women who were Poly, even had a casual relationship with one or two, but while I can understand their viewpoint on monogamy, I wouldn't be able to do it long term.

This. It sounds like the kid is a citizen, whereas your buddy may not even be a permanent resident. If he doesn't have that green card, he risks being deported and never seeing his son again. As for the rest of it, I don't know how it works when they were never married. As others have mentioned, you'd be best consulting a family law attorney to figure out that part of it.

To a certain degree, I agree with this legislation. They shouldn't ban it, because there are religions who require it. Church & state and all that. On the other hand, they are trying to write in the "health benefits" into the law, which are unknown at best, and outright lies at worst. Lets leave it alone for those who wish to do it for religious reasons, but inform people of the risks involved, and debunk the myths of the rewards.

I think you mean confederalism, not federalism. We already have a federalist society, the government in Washington has more power than the states do. Canada has a confederation in that the provinces have all the power and the PM has to negotiate with them.

I said the same thing in the thread that announced this bill yesterday. This is just a tactic from the "moral" right to try to ban abortion all together by making it harder to get one. I swear, sometimes I think the coat hanger lobby is behind these things, because that is what is going to happen if abortion gets banned in some states like it was before Roe v Wade.

Donated sperm is a whole 'nother can of worms. The fact that he donated the sperm implies that he knows that it's eventually going to be used to produce a child, and he's signing away the rights as father in that case. For that matter, the mother doesn't even know his name in most cases. I doubt a man who is donating sperm is doing it because they want to have a relationship with any child who is produced from his genetic material, same as a woman who donates eggs.

Honestly I believe this bill is more about trying to make it harder to get an abortion than it is about mens' rights. Ohio also recently passed the "heartbeat bill" making it illegal to get an abortion once a heartbeat is detectable (which is a ridiculous law because by the time a woman realizes she's missed her period, it's already almost too late, there's already a heartbeat). I was a non-citizen permanent resident when I turned 18 (immigrated from Canada). I had to register. But if you live outside of the country now, I don't know. I do know that on many of the job applications I've filed, or on the student loan applications, I've had to put my SS number, or at least check a box saying that I had registered. Getting rid of recess and gym class is bad for all students, boys and girls, but I do agree with her assessment on how boys act. I was involved in sports as a kid (baseball, curling, and golf) and I'm going to get my kids involved as well when the time comes. I think it's important to a child's development, and education to play sports, regardless of gender.
