Yeah and we only need to look at history to see that even trauma doesn’t necessarily change collective behavior easily, especially if there is a strong narrative working against it. Just look to politics to see that people routinely cling to a favorite narrative long after it has been invalidated, even if doing so is harmful to themselves.

It doesn’t work that way in reality though. People don’t “think twice” when faced with negative consequences much at all. Just ask people in any politics thread. That cliche of “making the same mistake expecting a different result” has a huge grain of truth.

I’m not one to defend a $60 pile of arugula, but lots of chains ARE shit because they are heavy on fatty, low quality ingredients that they buy in massive bulk very cheaply. An overwhelmingly large number of Americans are morbidly obese precisely because they eat too much of this stuff. It is cool that more chains are taking notice and offering some healthier options, but there really is a reason Americans are lard asses. You are what you eat.
