Christina Hoff Sommers is a feminist. Men and women can both have grievances you know.

BTW sorry that you're getting downvoted for your observation of the details. It's a shame that MRAs are sometimes just as susceptible to shutting things that are incompatible with a convenient narrative as SJWS are.

Both. It's racist that she thought she could attack someone for their own hairstyle because of their race, it's sexist that she thought she could physically accost him and have it be OK while complaining when he shoved her back.

But feminists have turned GM into FGM, and I'm defined right out of the discussion. True. The co-opting of gay rights by feminists has put women with often toxic viewpoints at the helm of a movement that doesn't concern them, because they're so preoccupied with gaining influence and monopolizing social justice that they can't let really affected people take part.

It's not that he thinks he's less, it's just that OP specifically asked for gay men so he's not quite what OP asked for.

LOL the creepy vagina worship has always wigged me out, but whatever. All of my "problems" with lesbians though are just annoyances that I can tolerate and not really anything harmful though. They're benign as far as I can tell, there's nothing really inherently bad or dangerous about them.
/r/MensRights22/03/16 03:10 AM

Like what? The most overtly annoying thing I see lesbians do is talk up how great women are in an indirect way of stroking their own ego, but besides that they seem pretty benign to me.

I legitimately feel bad for straight men some of the time. The gender roles you guys have concerning relationships are very burdensome, and with no way out, girls can really wring a lot out of you. The desperate shit I see some straight guys do for the microscopic chance of gaining a girl's favor never ceases to amaze me. This would never happen if they had a little healthy competition from a group of people that are effectively immune to the slut shaming they use to prevent other women from cha…

1: Depends on the girl. I've yet to have a girl completely lose interest in me over it, but I've had a few girls that were wigged out by it that needed some explaining. A lot of them have a strange irrational fear that I'll cheat on them with another man for some reason. 2: Depends on the context. My current girlfriend didn't even know until a mutual friend casually mentioned it. She was a little shocked and had some questions, and I told her I felt it didn't matter since we were monogamous and …

I'm not gay, however, I am bisexual which is close enough. 1: Misandric speech in my presence One of my biggest issues is that I find women seem to think that by exempting gay/bi/transexual men from misandric hate speech means that I have no right to dispute them, as if somehow non-straight men do not identify with their own sex and gender. Saying that they "really just meant straight men" when spewing hateful bullshit isn't going to make me turn a blind eye. I'm a fucking man and I have as much…

Independent feminists make up over 90% of those receiving TAX FREE child support I think you're conflating women with feminists. You don't have to be a feminist to benefit from child support, this is a men's issues that predates the rise of feminism for a long time.

My biggest problem here is the idea that if a man doesn't make a move, the only explanation is that they aren't interested. Young boys and men are given this burden of taking the active role in all stages of a relationship, and a lot of them are very anxious about making a move. This is especially true in an era dominated by digital communication where personal conversations in physical space can be even more paralyzing to a young man. Worse yet, the way this attitude upholds idea that men don't…

I would say that he should simply make it clear that he believes that women have issues worth addressing, but that they already have a movement that helps them. Just let it be known that while you're just trying to stay in your own lane, and not mount an assault on women's movements.
/r/MensRights04/02/16 08:13 PM

(if you hear "but women are more likey to be assaulted" ask them if that means male victims should wait until there are no more female victims before helping men). This. Remind them that you're simply advocating for men's issues, not detracting from women's issues, because women's rights groups can't be expected to speak for men.

Ok, this is going to be really tricky, so read carefully. I've convinced people who buy into the MRA as sexist/racist/etc myth that we're actually reasonable and justified before, and I've found the following things seem to work 1) Don't use the word MRA, at least not at first. Prefer the term "men's issues" over "men's rights". The less pre-conceived notions you let them have, the more likely people are to judge you for what you are rather than based on a myth. We also give out more scholarships based on race and sex to people than we do based on income and socioeconomic status. I saw this refreshing post on facebook a while ago on the subject of gendered education programs, and how it's starting to show its economic impact in hiring and education.

Not everything is the fault of feminism dude. This study is based on countries where polygamous marriage is legal and common, not Western countries where feminism has a hold on the social landscape. Men's Rights issues aren't all the fault of a single monolith you know, you sound a lot like irrational radical feminists that like to blame slut shaming from other women and shit on "the patriarchy".

Isn't the purpose of alimony to help support divorcees that were so financially dependent on their partner that they couldn't cover basic living expenses on their own? If so, then why isn't alimony set at a flat rate to ensure living expenses are covered, similar to welfare? Why is a guarantee of living in luxury at their ex's expense? These actors make millions, their ex wives shouldn't be entitled to millions to cover basic living expenses.

The woman, or rather the possibility of a future family life with a wife and children is the incentive. You sound like you're into MGTOW, and that's fine, but you have to keep in mind that MGTOW is a very personal thing that doesn't really apply to large groups at a national scale, and it's a response to a specifically Western social condition. They're talking about a completely different gender landscape here than the one that MGTOW is based on.

Wew lad. You don't seem like an advocate of liberty at all. Women consuming alcohol/having pre-marital sex/being allowed the right to an abortion isn't detrimental to men's rights. You just sound like a right-wing social regressive and not an actual men's rights activist. As willing as I am to criticize feminism, demonizing sexual youth culture is completely irrelevant here. Sweden is a pretty strong case study for at least a dozen different ways that feminism can go wrong.
/r/MensRights19/01/16 08:04 PM
3

Even though the crude version of that feminist rhetoric comes from tumblr/feminist social media, it originally comes from academia. The meme that only men can be sexist and only whites can be racist is an invention of feminist pundits in academia that spread through the internet because it was a popular viewpoint to hold among bigots looking for moral absolution.
/r/MensRights19/01/16 08:03 PM
3

I think we're finally seeing some self-correcting behavior in academia. Up until now feminism has shown that it has a very high tolerance for bigoted viewpoints against men, low-effort rhetoric, logical fallacies (esp. false appeals to authority based on sex) and other intellectually destructive thought patterns. By only holding males (or in US's case, StraightWhiteMales™) to criticism when they speak bigoted rhetoric, they've really hurt their own movement. The result of the attitude that only …

I'm glad. I also think it's great that MRAs are starting and pick up and advocate for issues relating to men. Many men like this go from year to year facing dangerous challenges like this and get no sympathy for it, I'm really glad that meaningful change has been enacted.
/r/MensRights19/01/16 05:37 AM
2

They're used to using their position of academic authority/artificial credibility to bully men who want to be absolved of guilt. If you import honest-to-god misogynists from a culture that couldn't give less of a shit what ideological backup a feminist pundit has in the world of academia/web culture, they become completely ineffective. An actual rapist doesn't give a fuck about their rhetoric, they just want to rape.
/r/MensRights19/01/16 02:38 AM

I think that the underlying failure here is that both cases are driven by this obsessive need to curate gender ratios, as if there's something inherently wrong with men and women aligning into different college studies and careers and that tendencies either way are problems to be solved. If a liberal arts college has more women than men simply because women are more drawn to that field of academics, it's not an injustice that needs to be solved.

The entrenchment is deep. Outside of hard sciences, their influence is fucking insane. I'm an immunology student at a State University, and I took some liberal arts GE classes my Freshman year. My Rhetoric and Composition class (ENG 130) and my Public Speaking class (COMM 160) were two heavy SJW experiences. Two reasons: 1) They have a huge foothold in academia, esp in the anglophone world where social sciences are largely driven by the writings of American feminists. 2) They are extremely vocal. Women's and gender studies programs are basically pundit generating machines. They practice writing inside of an ideological echo chamber for four years, then go out into the world with a diploma that it's nearly impossible to earn a job with, so they take to the net and write blogs, publish op-eds in the H…

Also you have to pay to raise these kids but you won't be allowed to interact with them or form emotional bonds, but don't worry feminism will just solve that problem when they smash the patriarchy, right?

Making myself watch this is going to be really hard. I absolutely do not trust HuffPo to represent my experience. They're only interested in talking about men's issues when they can shoehorn it into their narrative as "the Patriarchy backfiring".

It's not though. The idea that women are universally non-violent and that men are impervious to physical harm so long as their attacker is female is a stupid cultural trope that greatly pre-dates feminism. The problem with feminism (in this case) is that they dismiss this attitude by simply parroting "it's just the patriarchy backfiring" and that therefore the problem doesn't deserve to be faced head on, because they just assume that when they "smash the patriarchy" the problem will magically so…

That's kind of a bullshit argument. Unless he's targeting them based on race, it's not racist. I could see it as being classist, however, since so-called deadbeat dads are usually low-income single men that struggle to keep themselves above water most of the time.

Hilary likes grandstanding for ignorant women by making stupid statements like this and expecting them to whoop and applaud her for just kind of jerking herself off for being a woman. It's a really cheap political tactic. One of the best things about Obama's campaign in my opinion was that he didn't feel the need to imply that being black would somehow magically make him more qualified to run the country, he focused on discussing real policies instead of trying to gain sympathy votes.

I actually don't think feminism is to blame here. Social movements, despite all the importance we place on them, are never as universally impactful as economic factors. Lots of young people (men and women included) are struggling to gain financial security. The average age of moving out of your parent's house is higher for millennials than for previous generations, and the thought of facing the massive economic impact of child raising is very much daunting to most young people. I wouldn't want t…

Remember, fetishes are only OK if they are under the BDSM umbrella of whips and chains and domination play. Fetishizing any visible feature of any kind is evil for some reason, because in a perfect feminist world the visual aspect of sex is completely erased.

It's OK for them to look at men sexually. "Objectification" is just a profane way of saying "Sexualization". I don't think there's anything wrong with sexualization because I don't think that there's anything wrong with sex, and appreciating a form doesn't reduce it to a "piece of meat". This applies to men as well as women.

First and foremost, don't ever use the word feminism when criticizing feminist ideas. Tackle them one at a time, without associating them with a belief or movement or political identity. Ideologues (feminists included) will often resign their identity to their chosen "-ism", and will take any criticism of their alignment as a wholesale personal attack and they just completely shut down. It's interesting to see articles like this. A lot of MRA issues are way more visible among Black Americans (ex: being considered dangerous by default by women or even other men, being considered animal and hypersexual etc) and it's fascinating to read how this affects them as well.
