And do you admit that there were ways in which women had it better than men throughout history and were seen as superior? Yes, of course. The thing is, I think that it was mostly in certain roles that they were perceived as superior, not as individual complete entities.

It is literally considered sexist against women to relate masculinity to anything good To some, perhaps, but not to all. There are feminists and non-feminists who would agree that there is nothing wrong with masculinity. I don't disagree that there are people who believe the things you've said. However, I do disagree with your perception of the frequency with which such things occur. In fact if you don't believe that men oppressed women throughout history you are a radical. I think that in the p…

When I say 'complete,' I mean that not everyone views men as wholly bad. Not everyone views maleness as bad, and not every message about men is negative. There are ways in which men are advantaged unfairly over women, and the reverse is also true--there are areas in which women are unfairly advantaged over men. My dissent with you comes from the fact that men are not 100% smeared as society as evil, because nothing is 100%. There are messages that say that maleness is bad and masculinity is evil…

only stress gender when a man does something bad Of course this is wrong. However, I don't believe that society 100% emphasizes maleness as bad and femaleness as 100% good. Certainly there are times when those things happen--and they're bad--but I disagree with the frequency most people in the MRM believe them to happen.

Of course it wasn't a coincidence. Firefighters tend to be predominantly male, due to the way gendered views on certain jobs and types of work evolved in our society. If the majority of firefighters are men, the majority of firefighters who die are going to be men. Why don't you go tell the feminists this? I'm cutting my teeth on opposing viewpoints to fully flesh out exactly what I believe. Why should we even listen to you You don't have to. You could just ignore me. I don't think you have to l…

Of course. I respect rational discourse, especially among people who may at times disagree. It is essential in breaking down walls that people erect around themselves that determine who is 'enemy' and who is 'friend.' (I kind of want to be everyone's friend, even my enemies.) And you're right--anywhere that says that men are broken or that maleness is wrong is incorrect. Being male, female, both (when you get into gender identity stuff) or neither is okay, and none should be demonized nor elevat…

I would opine that there is nothing wrong with masculinity or femininity, both at the same time, or neither. The important thing to realize is that demonizing anyone for embodying these traits is wrong, and so is trying to push those traits onto anyone or saying that one trait is better than the other. Celebrating masculinity or femininity wherever they are found is good, but not to the extent that we raise one of them above the other. Also, if I may respectfully offer an opposing viewpoint unde…

The occupation of firefighter can be held by anyone. These firefighters were obviously men--no one denies that--by they were also firefighters. You don't have to stress that they were men when we know they were men. A lawyer is a lawyer--we don't genderize that word to make it lawyerman or lawyerwoman. If the lawyer is male or female, then they're just male lawyers or female lawyers. I don't entirely understand why you stress this.

Anytime anyone dies for any reason, it is wrong. No one should die like this, regardless of whatever demographic they belong to. All human life is precious.

Come on. Disparaging people because you think they're ignorant of reality is just assholish. Engage me in debate. Be intellectual. Show me what you've got. Make me respect you rather than spouting bullshit. Present your evidence to challenge my views rather than humorously (in your eyes) treating me like a child. I go to your subreddit to challenge my beliefs and gain new perspectives on things, and sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't, because I'm free to hold whatever opinions on things I …

TRUTH about Feminism until everyone in the world knows what a sexist and hateful ideology and political regime it is But feminism isn't some unified movement or unilateral ideological hierarchy. There are multiple different types of feminists, multiple different takes on what feminism is. There is no unified Global Feminist Hierarchy campaigning to destroy the rights of men. There are feminist groups who are opposed to the things you guys are fighting for, but what you fail to realize is that fe…

Can this subreddit please stop with all the "woman kills man" articles? Homicide can and will be perpetrated by persons of any sex, gender, age, nationality, creed, etc. Everyone recognizes homicide as a bad thing, regardless of perpetrator or victim. By posting these articles that have nothing to do with Men's Rights, it makes it look like you're saying "Hey look, crazy bitch women killing men, we gotta do something about this oppression." It just makes no sense and is unnecessary and contrary …

I'll be honest, I think any gender role that expects anything out of anyone solely on the basis of their biological sex/gender identity is wrong. However, I will bring up a flaw with your argument. For working class or impoverished families, hard physical labour like this was indeed something a man could expect to have to do. However, there were still the men of the day working as doctors, businessmen, politicians, scholars, teachers, butchers, tradespeople, etc. To that effect, I'd opine that t…

You know--you and I both know that at the end of the day, neither of us will have convinced the either of anything. Let's stop pretending that we're having a discussion that's going anywhere and get back to doing what we were doing before this discussion, move on with our lives, I won't hold you any ill will (because I don't hold people ill will), I will apologize for being a bit of a douche, and that'll be that. How's that sound?

equal outcome where equal input has not been made. Do you deny that not all people have equal opportunity? Further, do you disagree that those who have lesser opportunities should have some sort of compensation for that lessened opportunity? Try as some demographics of people might to be successful, those demographics' chances at success are vastly influenced by things beyond their control.

I agree with some issues MRAs fight for. I don't agree with the way they fight for them or a lot of the extraneous bullshit. I don't have to agree with the movement to think that some of the issues it fights for are valid. For instance, if the Nazi Party's core beliefs (hypothetically) were: *Kill all Jews *Expand Germany's influence *Save injured dogs *Don't do drugs And I agreed with the last two points, I do agree with certain core beliefs of the Nazi Party, technically. But that doesn't mean…

The arguments of /u/oneiorosgrip and his inability to see the fallacy inherent to his arguments are some of the reasons I disagree highly with the Men's Rights Movement and many of its members. A lot of the things (disproportionate receipt of alimony, disproportionate access to custody rights, lack of visibility for male rape victims, etc) are things I agree are important. However...the so-called 'central' MRM ideals are...quite out of touch with reality and lead me to wonder whether they actual…

May I just point out something that may run a bit counter to what a lot of people say here? I say it because it's true and often ignored. Feminism is by no means a unified movement with unilateral, agreed-upon ideas. There are many flavours and varieties of feminism that take importance on different issues, sometimes vastly disagreeing. 2nd-wave radical feminists tend to be cis, white, transgender-disapproving lesbians. 3rd-wave feminists tend to focus on race relations, ethnicity as it factors …

I think the idea is that "Men can rape women, women can rape men, men can rape men, women can rape women." Basically, it's saying that rape can occur between people of any gender. It's not saying that sex itself is rape.

if women don't think men who make games do a good enough job representing female interests or mindset, they are free to make games too. That's assuming that women have the means or the access to the game industry in a way that would allow them to make meaningful strides. Obviously more women are becoming interested in the game industry, but I think you wholeheartedly ignored the fact that 96% of people in the game industry (at least in the UK) are male, and 4% are female. You can't just ignore s…

But game developers shouldn't be making games based solely on their own experiences. The gaming industry is about the consumer and marketing so that the game will attract multiple different demographics and appeal in a variety of ways. If women want to be the heroes...then they need to make those games themselves Women working in the gaming industry make up only 4% of that industry's population. Without bias, the overwhelming majority of people employed to make, develop, and sell games are male.…

No. I'm not going to support anything, because I've realized you're a waste of effort. The very fact that you seem to have some great disbelief that the majority of sex offenders are rapists speaks volumes. Why ask for data at all? Why question this at all? Clearly you don't think that the majority of sex offence is rape, and at that point, I stop giving a fuck about appeasing your sense of 'fact-checking.' You know what? I don't give a shit about providing sources to you, because people like you are way more interested in proving that the majority of sex offenders aren't rapists than doing something to combat rape. Unless you're on the registry for public urination (which is a problem stemming from the authorities of the area in which the law is made) or were very young when the offence was committed (at which point I'd argue that the person didn't know very much better) then you deserve to be on …

Well, it's got a zero score because the post's title is misinforming, failing to take into account crucial data, including that Philip Garrido pleaded guilty to and committed different crimes than the woman. I don't frequent this sub, so I wouldn't know if complaints about this sub happen often or not. Prison rape is awful. It's one of the main reasons I support massive prison reform. But in response to your point, yes. The reason /r/mensrights is so villified is because it approaches problems from a completely incorrect angle, often making something of nothing and basing their arguments off of subjectivity. I personally do not identify as a MRA (I'm a transgender humanist who has no desire to involve myself in controversy) but I support a chunk of the things MRAs are fighting for. I don't sup…

My opinion is, kids deserve parents who are good, regardless of the gender of the parent. My father was a legitimate asshole and danger to me, and I wish he had been banned from visitation rights to me. If, however, a parent isn't a harm or a threat to a child, I do agree that they should have a right to see their child.

Let's also consider that this is Fiji, an area with a completely different culture, customs, and norms. From what I've read, Fiji seems to be one of those places were women seriously are grossly underrepresented and mistreated. It's like if a woman who had been raped in say, Afganistan tried to speak out, she might encounter serious backlash.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter--all human suffering should be eradicated. If my remarks seemed as if I was insensitive to the suffering itself, I apologize. No one should be subject to a cruel fate like that. My main point is that males have held the effective power in almost every society since the beginning of human civilization. But I'm cognizant that this isn't all males--it's select males, elite males. Males in power. Females gain very few opportunities to access that power, on the basis …

About you, I can say this: I am appreciative of the time you took to think about your post, formulate your argument and deliver it calmly and without the anger and vitriol that many MRA's usually employ. For that you have my respect. However, there are points of your argument I disagree with, especially the argument of male deaths due to war or slavery, etc. Who historically has fought wars? I'd like to address one specific thing in your statement above. I'm not trying to shift discussion away from other topics, there's just one I feel I want to address right now. Feminism is unified on the belief that patriarchy is a system that, all things considered, privileges men over women. I challenge you to find an exception. The thing is--in certain areas of developed nations, I can understand some of the ways in which policies can be anti-male. But if we understand cultural origins and the…

It's immaterial. I came here to express my opinion and it's obviously invalid unless I dedicate myself to your cause, so I'm indifferent to what happens. Dissenting opinions on Reddit are almost ubiquitously met with an inability to openly discuss the disagreements people have without people flat-out telling each other "you're wrong." Some women do make responsible choices and ensure the health of their partner. Some don't. In the United States, rates of circumcision are higher than in, say, Europe, where it is very much not as commonly practiced, so obviously let's be clear that we're focusing on the US here, because I wouldn't want you to think the whole world is like this. Circumcision is, to my knowledge, not justified as a 'women's health' thing. There are many additional factors, including the, I don't know, thousands o…

Further, I think the point presented in the original picture needed a strong counterpoint, and that valid criticisms of the expressed sentiment needed to be made. I don't entirely disagree with you. Is the point here that the most oppressed/most disadvantaged groups get everything whereas the least oppressed/most advantaged don't get anything? I mean, after a bit of inspection, I saw that the shortest person's shirt had been changed to the color purple and been given pigtails, but this was not immediately obvious. Even among problematic radical feminists, whose blogs and sites I have pored through in depth, I have not encountered this sentiment of which you speak.
