I'm more referring to the "she's probably more nervous than you" part. Unless you're really something special (college/pro athlete, very rich or well-connected, incredibly attractive), that's more than likely not the case.

Gotta agree with you here. I've gotten like 5 times as many numbers as actual first dates, and from there like 4 times as many first dates as anything that could be called a relationship or just a "score." That's why I tend to dislike posts like this. I won't deny getting a gorgeous woman's number is an accomplishment, but it's celebrating when you're half done IMO.

Well, yeah, if you actually offend someone because of a slip of the tongue or a faux pas, definitely own up to it or at least try to deflect it with some humor. That's what I mean by having tact. If you're going to disagree with someone, you do it in a debating or bantering manner, not an argumentative one. Some things you just don't say anything, of course. Like if a girl is vegan, you don't go challenging that because that's usually a major choice people have a lot invested in.

Oneitis will seem like the "one" until they get replaced with another "one" and so on. It only took me two girls to realize this. Like, I was dating one girl, fell for her, she dumped me. Location and type of people tend to matter, as well. I went to a high school where the trend was to look either rugged or black (it was in small-town Louisiana, with 1/4 of the students being black). Clubs definitely aren't for us all. I'm pretty defined and muscular, know how to dress, etc, but the pitch of my voice is drowned out so easily by crowds and loud music. I can't make myself heard worth shit in a club unless I yell, and who finds that attractive?

There are certain things you don't teach with on-the-job experience, though. You wouldn't take a guy off the streets, put him in a uniform, and ship him overseas to fight in Afghanistan, for example. When there are no second chances, you want knowledge first. It sounds to me like the guy described in the opening post really got lucky.
