There is this little thing in the throat, called thyroid. When it doesn't work correctly, it can do strange things to one's mind. Did he have it tested?

(Sorry for poor wording, no native speaker) All these words for a stillborn baby seem to put guilt on the mother... We are not guilty. We are entitled to emotional support. If your husband, in his own grieve, cannot give it to you, seek for it in other places. For me, the significant action was to attend a funeral for the starchildren, 12 years after I gave birth to my tiny 15-weeks-girl. (It was the year my city established this celebration) I feel your loss, I am at your side. Even though it h…

Long story short... My 4th therapist is "the one". I was taught how to get me back to "now and here", and I was able to teach my dear husband how to help, if I can't do it myself. Background: DH and I know each other for nearly 25 years. Married 7 years ago. He knew before marriage what happened to me.

Good post, OP. Since there's so much I (ptsd-patient) wish to say about it, but no native english speaker, there will be a delay of a longer contribution from me about how my dear husband and me coping with my illness. I need to write it in advance, and copy-paste it.

Well, the inventor of KravMaga taught civilians first in Germany, when the Nazis started their "kill all jews ". IDF adapted the techniques much later.

What do you mean? Weapons? Topic is about weaponless self-defense.

Do you have examples?

To which extent should self-defense be illegal? I don't quite understand that. KravMaga techniques are compilated from different other martial arts. So, are you saying Jiujitsu or Karatedo is illegal, too?

I have chronic conditions (no thyroid, so I am on permanent medication, and severe PTSD), and of course my husband knows about it. It seems strange to me, not to talk about it. Because, how is he supposed to handle situations (dissociation, panic attacks), when he doesn't know where they come from?

Yes. Are there countries where self-defense is illegal?

3 days until touching the mat again... My mind takes strange roads, but I'm still looking forward to the lessons. And even my therapists (yes, I have 2) say, it will be ok... but, as said, my mind does strange things.

Concerning medicine... I am a "Sanitäter", paramedic, worked for German Red Cross and now for Swiss "Samariter". I appreciate your points, but it sounds like it is told from an US point of view. My writing, and all else, come from a mid-europe "middle-aged housewife" expirienced with both, being raped and self-defense.

Absolutely! Another one of my favourites is "Moment de Bonheur ", moment of luck, with flower and citrus notes. When I have a bad day, I like to take this ;-) Yves Rocher has some more perfumes, also for men.

I like the perfumes of Yves Rocher. Sportive fresh: NaturElle When I am sunkissed, summer: Monoï de Tahiti, sweet flower And all of the Vanilla-products. Don't know, if they are available in the US. It's a french company.

So sad to hear about your friend's death. I hope you will find a way to cope with it.

That's what I said, no fist.

All good points. Don't hesitate, get away as soon as possible. I would like to add: use your voice, be loud, it give the blow more power and might draw the attention of others to the scene. And if you use your hands to hit -> no fist, use open hands. I guess, the hardest part in learning SD, is to act against your instincts. To step to the aggressor, not away from him/her. I was surprised, that my body still remembers all this, although I hadn't stepped on the mat for such a long time.

Well, for middle aged german women, there are other words. And they are not nice.

Injuries suck. That's the reason why I stopped doing karate. (This, and "life") Good Luck for your comeback!

I try to stay open-minded, and take what the teacher has to give (and what I pay for).

For me, it is not about fist fight. More about making time and space for me to get away.

Applause for your post. All said, essentielly. I would just like to add, that women do profit more from mixed, than women-only classes. May I ask, if you practice other arts besides Aikido? I, myself, come from karatedo, but only practiced kata over the last years. Had some seminars in other arts, jiujitsu, brazilian jj, Judo. Interesting thing: once learned and drilled, the body remembers. At the open-doors, many moves just came automatically, though my last time in dojo was 11 years ago.

Yes, due to the fact, that men can keep their military gun at home here. I, myself, come from Germany. I am a foreigner in Switzerland. So, I'm quite sensitive when generalized prejudices come up -> words like "Fuckilants" or "rapefugees".

My lessons start next saturday, 17.6. Is there any interest in me reporting about my journey into krav-maga? And is this an appropriate topic here, anyway?

All good points, especially screaming. SD is not about strength, all my teachers until now were slender men, not one over 75 kilogram. It is about techniques, to get yourself space and time to get away with as little damage for both, you and the aggressor .

Since I come from a country that doesn't allow firearms for civilians easily, I do not know this saying. But I like it!

Good for you, if it works. If... I prefer bare-handed SD, since "every weapon you hold can be turned against you".

Cologne? Statistics show that it's more likely for women to be assaulted by someone from the own family or from the near social group, than by a stranger (no matter what nationality) In my case, 17 years ago, it was my first teacher for karatedo, who raped me.

Safe charmed life... A really good description for my situation. Little village in Switzerland :-) more animals than human inhabitants. Zombies would die from boredom here.

Well, my dear husband is quite impressive, tall and not without muscles. But he doesn't know anything about self-defense. Until now, we have not been in any danger, but of course we talk about "what to do, if...". Only half jokingly, he always says that it would be enough that I know how to de-escalate or fight. He was with me when there was an open-doors in the school where krav-maga is taught, and now he considers taking classes, too.

As a gardener/landscape-worker, I really do appreciate this post. In garden and on my balcony, I am firm discerning plants, but indoors... Well, that is the "job" of my dear husband. Thank you very much for the advice. (Sorry for strange wording, no native speaker)

My dear husband sometimes calls me "Hasi", little rabbit. It comes from a scenic joke of an old comedy group of our hometown, "N8chtschicht". Mostly he calls me Hasi when I do something silly, or behave like a rabbit in front of a snake 🙄 Like... 4 days ago we hiked Samaria-Gorge (Crete), and I lost my nerves in the middle of a river crossing. "Come on, Hasi, you CAN do it!" And I could, and did. Hope it's understandable, no native speaker.

New to RPW. Voluntary work was what worked for me in many situations. Single mom with two Kids-> learned to be/was a paramedic at RedCross. Was able to choose work-time according to the boys' needs. Now that I live in an other country, I can make contacts in this field, though my meducation needs fitting. The thing is - learn on, as much as you can, use it... You never know when you will need it. (German woman living in Switzerland... So, no native speaker)
