Woah you and your wife were able to overcome a DVRO? My lawyer said he never saw a marriage recover from a DVRO. That includes me too, but I filed for divorce myself as soon as I was served the DVRO anyway. Almost all lawyers will advise the husband in the OP to file for divorce immediately.

You'd be surprised to find out how common this is across the US. DVROs are too easy to obtain.

I have been in a very similar situation myself, but my hearing wasn't that far out. Several months out is fucking bullshit. The whole DVRO system in the US is so fucked up. I guess that duration at least gives him enough time to find a good lawyer and to potentially convince the wife to dismiss the case in return for good alimony (totally unethical, but happens all the time). Did the court order him to pay her any money until the hearing? If not, he shouldn't pay the mortgage, at least until he …

Why isn't she staying at her own house? Having been through a very similar situation myself, I would advise the husband to cease contact with anyone who knows the wife. Yes this includes you OP. If I were you, I would not deliver that toaster oven, and would gently advise him that it would be best for him to not speak to you for a while. Don't even mention the toaster oven to him. He needs to start completely hiding his whereabouts from the wife. This was what all lawyers told me back in the day…
