Because people are stupid and spend money on stupid shit. But its their shit, so you don't get to fuck with it if its not yours. I agree the truck looks stupid and is a waste of money but that's their God given American right to look that stupid.

Whenever a group or movement is given the default moral high ground, this inevitably happens. What I mean is when the actions of the movement are typically judged to be "good" you will eventually get narcissists that will coopt the movement. The same thing happened to feminism that happened to the democratic party. When it became common distinction that all feminists were good people and all democratic were good people, without question, it became a cover for shitty and manipulative people.

For the majority of the 4.5 years I was on sea duty I would go to bed between midnight and 1 and have to be up between 5 and 6. That included at least one weekend day 2/3 weeks because I was 3 section duty. Went to shore duty and wakeup just moved back an hour. Not saying its healthy or I'm proud of it but there are lots of people who have to live like this.

I'm in my mid 30s getting my engineering degree after I got out of the military. Most of the single, childless, female students I know work way harder than the female sailors with kids that I worked with. Shitty moms dont work harder than most hard working people without kids and, from my experience, the vast majority of parents these days are shitty. No self respecting, hard working, parent I know would ask for special treatment like that.

In the US every form of public transit is required to have ADA compliant seats that person without disabilities are required to give up if someone with a disability needs it. You can always ask the driver to ask people to vacate the seats too. If all the ADA compliant seats are taken the driver is supposed to ask someone else to give up their seat to accommodate you. If you're in the US and you have been forced to stand then you need to get a lawyer and raise a fuss.
