You have to make sure that your clearly showing your true intentions. I agree with you in that sense and to be completely honest, I found it much less intimidating to start off with simple openers such as 'Hi. My name is XYZ.' and then transitioning to light flirting and topics that aren't related to college/school (assuming this is college game?). I think its essential that before you start learning to approach and acquire 'game' that you begin to start developing your fundamentals, this involves going to gym, finding proper clothes that you actually look great in (not those baggy shirts and jeans most people walk around in), getting a decent haircut (not those cheap 8$ haircuts) and then begin to start approaching girls. Just walk up, smile and say 'Hi, how are you?' Just recalibrate whatever shit is thrown at you after. The conversation would naturally flow on after you open, just as long as you approach!
