Btw, the DSM V doesn't distinguish between different "types" of schizophrenia. Pretty much all schizophrenic patients will have elements of each at different points in time. A patient could be paranoid at one point, disorganized and talking in a "word salad" at another point, and then catatonic some time after that.

However, many people like to say that LPS would be making up for a right that women have and men don't, which is largely untrue. So rather than saying "we want equality" the discussion should be "we want to create a new precedent for the rights and responsibilities for parents." Also, in terms of having more choices to avoid fatherhood, I would love to see more support and donations for male contraceptives. Vasagel will be out in a few years, but there are other contraceptive options that could …

Holy false equivalency, Batman! There is no physical barrier stopping gay people from getting married. They can still go through all the motions of being married, having a ceremony, moving in together, having kids, etc. The only difference is that it is not legally recognized. There is a physical barrier to cismen becoming pregnant. When you try to compare LPS aka "financial abortion" to a surgical procedure only possible in people who have a uterus, you look like a complete moron. If anything, …

The thing about rape is that it is much more likely to happen in your own home than a dark alley. The rapist is usually an acquaintance of the victim. So, by saying that the victim is partially responsible because she wasn't vigilant enough, you're saying that we shouldn't trust anybody we know. That's a pretty terrible way of living. And the car analogy doesn't work because you actually would be more likely to have your car stolen from your own garage if it was an accurate comparison.

Do you have anything other than anecdata to back that up? Because half of the single moms I know were in committed relationships with the father, and he was active and supportive all through the pregnancy and was present for the birth, signed the birth certificate, etc, and then realized that having a baby is hard a year later and left. It looks like my evidence holds the exact same weight as yours (which isn't a lot), so you should probably have some statistics to link to before you make basele…

What standards are you holding women to, here? You blame a woman for having kids that the father doesn't want, but what if dad originally did want kids? What if they both planned the pregnancy and then he realized he didn't want the responsibility a couple of years later? How is that her fault? I would also look down on a woman who walks out on her kids and leaves dad to pick up the slack. If you're trying to make a comparison to abortion, adoption, safe haven abandonment, the holy false equival…

A lot of guys walk out after the kid is born. My boyfriend's biological father left when he was 2. Thankfully, his step dad adopted him and his sister and raised them with their mom. I hardly blame his mom for not foreseeing the fact that her first husband had flighty feet and wouldn't stick around.

I know a woman who has medically diagnosed PTSD resulting from when her husband was wrongfully convicted and on death row for 13 years. He had PTSD as well, and his response to triggers is more severe than his wife's, but that does not mean she doesn't have it. There are varying severities. And a wide range of events can cause it. That's not a real world setting for the experiment. If an HIV+ person spit on someone, they would have to not only have bleeding gums or a cut in their mouth for there to be blood in the saliva, but they would have to spit on a fresh, open wound. A cut clots off in 5-7 minutes. So the wound would have had to have happened just before being spit into. This scenario requires several chance events (blood in saliva, saliva hitting in just the right spot, wound on victim being very fresh and unclotte…

prove you can't get it That's not how science works. Observation, Hypothesis, experimentation, accept or reject hypothesis. The hypothesis has to be something that you can reject. "There is some circumstance where X is possible" is not a scientific hypothesis, because there are an infinite number of circumstances that would have to be tested in order to prove it wrong. Other examples of such hypotheses is "there is intelligent life SOMEWHERE in the universe", and "there is a higher power". They …

You asked for an example of someone making that analogy, and I gave it to you. There are many different problems with that analogy. These are the general representations that the analogy has: A car=a person's body Parking in the ghetto=being in an unsafe place Leaving it unlocked with your laptop in view=wearing revealing clothing, being intoxicated So, people like to use that analogy to say that women shouldn't dress in revealing clothes, get drunk, and walk down dark alleys. The problem is tha…

You can guarantee that, yes? I'm sure you could find someone on Tumblr who states otherwise. Similarly, I can find a self-proclaimed MRA who wants to murder women who leave the kitchen. But nobody who actually has power to change laws or enact policy believes that one drink automatically equals unable to consent. Stop fighting the straw That big of you, to say that. Now define "few". It could be that this point would be reached by the man first. Do you think this matters? If so, what would be, i…

Nobody is saying that one drink=rape. Even several drinks over the course of a few hours with food is probably fine. However, everybody has a point of no return where they just do not have the cognitive function to consent. You know it, and you are being deliberately obtuse by trying to compare moderate drinking before sex to blackout drunk.

If you commit a crime while drunk (e.g. Drunk driving, or even rape), you are still guilty, but if a crime is committed against you, your alcohol consumption does not absolve them. Say you get really drunk and I convince you to sell me your car for $5. You even have the title in your glovebox, so I drive home in MY new car, with all of it's paperwork. You would absolutely be the victim of car theft because you did not have the capacity to make that decision.

It still doesn't change the legal reality that being under the influence does not mean that you are consenting to anything that people may try to convince you to do while you are intoxicated.

Because the years you spend taking care of the kids has likely benefited her career. She doesn't have to take days off when the kids are home sick or on a school holiday. She doesn't have to take a half day to wait for the plumber to fix the garbage disposal or to take the car in because it's making a funny noise. She doesn't have to leave work early to pick the kids up from school and drive them to soccer practice. This will help people advance in their career, and they will continue to reap th…

I'm pretty sure most people in general, male or female, don't think that way. Marriages end for a multitude or reasons. It may be because of infidelity, or it may be because they simply fell out of love. Shit happens. I don't know anybody who has gotten divorced and just wanted to screw the other person over. But I know plenty of people who left a failing marriage only to find that entering the workforce again after ten years left them making much less than they would get if they never left. Thi…

They still made a mutual decision for her to stay home with the kids, advancing his career. She did that for ten years. She did not force him to cheat on her and then kick her out. As a result of their relationship, the decision they both made for her to stay at home, and his forcing the break up, she now has a much lower potential earning ability, so I say it's perfectly fair for him to compensate her. It would be fair if the genders were reversed as well. This is why common law marriage exists…

Sure, if you're in a marriage with someone who isn't working and you'd like them to contribute financially, that is a big issue that I think it's reasonable to end a marriage for. Don't marry someone who wants to stay at home if you want the to work. Simple as that.

Being a stay at home parent is not "sitting around the house and doing nothing". Taking care of a house and kids is itself a full time job. If a person sends their kids to daycare, then stays at home and plays xbox and not doing any of the household chores, that would be a deadbeat. A friend of mine divorced her husband for that reason, if he had just kept their place up and held down the fort while she was at work, it would have been fine. Don't equate SAHP with "doing nothing", that's bullshit…

This conclusion is inconsistent with the common belief that how a woman dresses has an impact on whether she will be sexually harassed or sexually assaulted. Why then, do many people, including psychiatrists, assume that dress plays some part in who is a victim of sexual assaults? In particular, why do women believe this? Social scientists believe this is the result of the “just world hypothesis.” As Melvin Lerner explained, "for their own security, if for no other reason, people want to believe…

The original reason for the "slut walks" was because a Toronto police officer said that women could avoid being raped by not "dressing like sluts". I find this very antimale because it implies that all it takes for a man to become a rapist is to see a little cleavage. This analogy implies that rape is as inevitable as accidental hit and runs while kids play in the street. Nobody is going to "accidentally" rape someone. What separates us from other animals is that we have enough logic and reason …

However, if things go sour, it's a pretty good chance that the parent who has done the majority of the childcare will get primary custody. So while there is nothing wrong with a family that's more traditional with a SAHM, a division of all the duties: bread winning, chores, etc; would probably mean a much more even separation of assets and custody if there is a divorce.

If a person is unable to read a person's body language as is repeatedly called a "creep" as a result, they should either A. Learn to read body language or social cues; or B. Well, if dad does half the childcare, then mom will have time to work and make money. Honestly, people should do what works for them. If you want to split the childcare and breadwinning, then marry someone who feels the same. If you want to be the main breadwinner and not do much housework, then marry someone who wants to be a homemaker. Or if you want to be the homemaker, marry someone who wants to focus on career. Do you think that traditional women's jobs have more flexibility because they're easier, or because women are expected to spend more time on childcare? The rigidity of white collar jobs is as much about exerting control as anything. You can easily do that work from your computer at home (whereas traditional female jobs like teaching and nursing very much require you to be physically present). Why aren't more companies allowing people to work remotely? If they get the same amount of work done, it…

How about this: Woman: Will you change half the dirty diapers, take half the days off that the kids are home sick, and read half of the bedtime stories to them? Man: no, that's woman's work Woman: okay, so when we divorce, you will have no leg to stand on as to why you should get primary custody, because you didn't do your fair share of raising them.

Prostate screening is being cut back because if the man is asymptomatic, there is a greater risk of harm than benefit. The US. Preventative Services Task Force does not recommend routine PSA and DRE screening anymore for that reason. It has nothing to do with money. Also, Aspergers is no longer in the DSM, it never should have been a separate diagnosis from ASD. It was considered separate for superficial reasons that aren't medically standard. Now the people will have a more accurate diagnosis o…

As many others have mentioned, prostate cancer survival is longer, and it tends to hit older men who are more likely to die of something else. Also, a lot of the campaign for cancer "awareness" is about screening. And the recommendations have actually changed recently.
