Why is it only ok for women to be depressed but men are told from a young age to “suck it up”..When I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression my dad yelled at me and told me he was making sure I knew that my mental illnesses would not be used to excuse my actions. He accused my self harm and suicidal thoughts of being manipulative. I’m glad I’m on my own now, but those things still stick with me and I have a hard time prioritizing my mental health because I was told to suck it up and be strong, | /r/MensRights | 05/05/22 10:39 PM
r/misandryfetishThere are plenty of other misogyny kink subs if you actually look. MisogynisticLife, MisogynyGoneWild, there’s even one that’s an rp universe where women are literally animals and sex slaves and it has in-fantasy politics lol (can’t remember the name). Yes it’s a doubly standard, but kind of non-issue since other misogynistic kink subs are up and going. And I have nothing against people with either of those kinks. | /r/MensRights | 08/12/21 06:46 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I get a bit more aggressive irl lol. But it’s an exercise in choosing words wisely for me. I don’t really care about the karma, but I have strong beliefs about a lot of things, and this is a good place to express them with plenty of discussion in good faith. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 06:46 PM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?Right, and I agree with you there. I don’t think a lot of people in this thread disagree with my assertions, and I do try my best to stay civil. But I do enjoy the discussion, and it helps me to build conversation abilities. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 06:17 PM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?Because socially speaking society considers breasts to be sexual, although they are secondary sex characteristics and their purpose is to feed children. And of course it’s considered taboo for women to be out shirtless, even though a woman’s chest is not considered a primary sex organ and is not genitalia. Culturally speaking we have sexualized breasts, although not every culture sees showing them as taboo. In some cultures women, like men, did not wear shirts. I’m not sure what you’re assuming … | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 06:12 PM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I agree that it is difficult to tell his intentions, and I don’t claim to know. But I haven’t heard anyone say you can’t speak to women dressed a certain way or look at them. People can tell the difference between creepy or rude behavior, and normal behavior. I do think this woman did not handle the situation as well as she could’ve considering she’s a grown adult. And other people saying that she deserves rape or that all women dress for attention, and justifying bad actions because of how peop… | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 05:23 PM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring? In Oklahoma, the law actually says that anyone regardless of age or gender can go around shirtless in public. Of course local counties kind of ignore this ruling anyway, but legally speaking it’s not a big deal for a woman to be shirtless either. Also if you do believe the male gaze is real, then surely you’re aware of the harmful effects it has on people and wouldn’t want to perpetuate it right? Personally I don’t think there’s enough evidence to support the male gaze thing. And what are you sa… | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 05:08 PM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring? Why do men go around shirtless? Do they just want female attention? Or are they just comfortable with their bodies and dressing the way they want? The idea that women only dress for male attention is just plain wrong. Generalizations like that are harmful to everyone. And men and women can dress how they want, whether than be to fit their style or feel good about themselves or attract a partner. However, the reasons why people dress the way they do are EXTREMELY individual. Trying to speak for a… | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 04:20 PM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?Well 1. Viewing a naked human body is something that both parties should consent to. We’re socially conditioned to feel shame when seen naked, and there might be some biological factors with that im not aware of. Not to mention that public nudity is illegal because of the fact you would be exposing yourself to those who did not consent to seeing you. 2. Form fitting clothing is not the same as nudity. When watching a swim team or gymnasts perform you don’t think “oh wow let me stare at them for … | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 04:09 PM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?Yes? If he were naked would he get stares?? That argument makes no sense because no one here is naked. And nakedness in public and prohibited private locations is illegal anyway. Wearing form fitting clothes is not. Anyone naked in a public place would get stares, and the cops called on them. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 03:57 PM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I did not know that the UK was like that and it’s very unfortunate. I do hope it changes, victims of sexual violence deserve justice. And yes, when it comes to parental rights the custody laws have turned to favor women. I think it should be more even and determined more on an individual basis. I’m sure there are men who would have been better choices than women for the guardian with primary custody in some cases. The process of custody based on birth certificates is shocking as well, and leaves… | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 10:24 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?Ah well it’s unfortunate that she would try to make it seem that way if that’s the case. I don’t know what either of their intentions were, but it seems to be poorly handled all around. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 09:33 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring? The history of the legal obligation of men and women is extremely complex and many people, classical historians especially, may have different interpretations of causes and effects. When I mentioned the “old feminism” I meant it in the social sense. Women having the opportunity to choose their role in society, and men not having to carry the burden of the working class alone. Of course the issues of military drafting is complex, as with many other things, and mostly up to individual opinion. I b… | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 09:31 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring? It mostly depends on if she was trying to record herself exercising and just happened to catch that on film or if she set up the camera after realizing he was watching her. And she could’ve handled it privately and asked him to stop staring because she’s uncomfortable. I think posting it was unnecessary though. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 05:30 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I’m not associated with any group of feminists and I feel more connected to what’s technically egalitarianism. I describe myself based on my own personal views. I don’t support whatever media is bashing men’s rights activists, because there are many harmful stereotypes, rules, standards, etc against men that should be changed. And yes, I do argue with women who negatively generalize men. Just because there is a toxic minority of women who demonize men, does not mean all feminists are like that. … | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 05:25 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I don’t believe that the body is inherently sexual, but we, as people with attraction, can sexualize it. And that’s true of anything, just look at people with obscure fetishes. I don’t think I agree with her filming necessarily or anything. I’m not condoning how she handled things, and I’m not saying the guy should be blasted either. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 05:15 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?Well I’m also an optimist and was hoping to help change his mind. But that’s wishful thinking. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:55 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?Agreed, but I believe anyone who states an opinion should be willing to defend it. But maybe that’s just me. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:49 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring? It’s obvious we’re not going to agree on this and that’s okay. I think I’ve provided decent counterpoints to some things people have said here and I did want civil discussion. (Other than the person who said she should get raped) I think a lot of people here have given good arguments as well. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:47 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I don’t think either of them are at fault. She can wear form fitting clothes and it’s not a problem. A “brief glance” at her isn’t the problem. The problem is justifying negative actions by her clothes. A brief glance isn’t negative, but ogling is. Again, I don’t even know if staring was his intention or if he was thinking sexually. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:44 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring? Thanks for showing me this, I haven’t seen this before but now I know where to look if I want looser options! And you’re right, I was generalizing too much about the right clothes thing. They’re just what seems to be in fashion so you see them more often. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:41 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring? They don’t. I just want to hear this guy explain why he think she deserves to be raped for her clothes (in his other comment). | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:40 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring? Why do her clothes mean anything to you? | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:28 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring? You’re the problem. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:24 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I personally have not seen these ads before, so thank you for showing me. I never said those clothes didn’t exist, just that I hadn’t seen ads for them. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:23 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?Yeah, but I personally perceive it as implying that people cannot be blamed for gawking at others because of something they where. I could be wrong in my perception as with anything. But I absolutely believe that other people’s clothing does not excuse someone’s actions. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:08 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I don’t know the full story and I don’t claim to. But what I don’t like is the idea that women can’t wear what they want, and if the dress the wrong way men can’t be blamed for their actions. I think some other comments on this post are just way over the line. | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 01:00 AM
Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I’m not talking about his actions, I’m talking about the attitude of this post. “Can you really blame him” is something I’ve heard too many times when it comes to people’s actions towards others who dress a certain way. In general, people should not be ogled for wearing clothes. Women should not be stared down because others perceive them as dressing sexually. And I don’t know what this man’s intentions were, but my point still stands. I don’t think he’s a bad person or anything, just that he’s … | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 12:24 AM
| -5 | Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring? What evidence do you have that it’s not sexual? At the end of the day we can only guess what he’s thinking based on how we interpret his body language and facial expression. I never said whether or not I think his gaze is sexual. But the human body isn’t inherently sexual in my opinion. I do think sometimes people overreact about others staring, but staring is still rude. And what people wear does not excuse anyone else’s negative behavior. Again, I don’t know what this man was thinking, but sta… | /r/MensRights | 06/12/21 12:12 AM |
| -5 | Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I don’t believe staring at her butt is harassment. I think it’s rude to ogle people. And I don’t think the human body is inherently sexual. So wearing pants that fit tightly is not indecent. It becomes a problem when people stare at anyone for sexual reasons. If someone is wearing sandals, and another person with a foot fetish comes up to them and just stares at their feet, it’s just as creepy. (Also, butt is the non-vulgar word, no worries) | /r/MensRights | 05/12/21 11:54 PM |
| -11 | Okay, this is a bit rude of him, but when you dress like that can you really blame the occasional idiot for staring?I consider myself a feminist, and I’ve been looking at this sub a lot because I really do care about men’s issues like mental health and parental rights and all that. But posts like this are part of why you’re not taken seriously. Women do not exclusively dress for male attention. Women can wear clothes that they like without being harassed, ogled, stared at etc. Most fitness clothes for women are made form fitting. I’ve never once seen an ad for women’s fitness clothes where it’s just shorts an… | /r/MensRights | 05/12/21 11:12 PM |
Bipolar? The issues with mentally ill people self self governing isn’t restricted to men or women, it’s a human rights issue. And mental illness isn’t restricted to men or women either. Men are allowed to have struggles too. And while I do believe that getting another doctor’s opinion is good for any diagnosis, just because your doctor is a woman doesn’t mean she’s out to get you or she’s being discriminatory. I suggest seeing another doctor and reading about the demographics of bipolar disorder. | /r/MensRights | 30/11/21 07:26 PM
Bipolar?Posts like these are why men’s rights aren’t taken seriously. I personally can’t tell if this is satire/trolling or not, but it doesn’t help your case, it doesn’t help the case of any of the men here. | /r/MensRights | 30/11/21 06:39 PM
