I think the differentiation between influence and opportunity is important because OP needs to know that even if he does the right thing his daughter may still choose to go down a self-destructive path. If anything, what she needs the most is someone who is strong and will stand up for the best in her. She'll likely continue the silent treatment and eventually lash at you for disagreeing with her but that's just a test. But in today's world where the majority of men are either adult children or betas who take their lead from women, there aren't any good examples for young men to follow.
