Kinda hard not to be "so stupid and bigoted" when you've been conditioned to think that way since you were two years old. Instead of getting mad at people changing too late, let's at least commend them for changing at all, because too many people never do. Probably not. And if it is thrown it'll be to introduce a more severe sentence--she did mastermind a brutal premeditated murder attempt, which included stabbing a conscious juvenile victim over 19 times. Plus the decision has already been upheld by two courts. A higher court is unlikely to even accept a further appeal.

Ordinarily, no, but she was being tried as an adult in this case, for murder in the first degree. I'm not clear on parental consent in cases where a minor is being tried as an adult, but I would assume--given the latter portion (tried as an adult)--that the court did not need to involve parental consent. In any case, she is currently 18*, and so would be considered an adult regardless. *Depending on birthday distribution she may be 17.

While you're correct on the top bit, she was not appealing to overturn her conviction. She was appealing to overturn the outcome of her plea deal, which commits her to 40 years in a mental institution, on the grounds that she lacked proper consultation on the rights she gave up by opting to avoid prison time in favor of institutionalizing herself.

Not a ppd, the perpetrators in the slender man stabbing were all young at the time of occurrence, and are still young now. Furthermore, given that the article states that she made the plea in a lower court without legal consultation, she did have grounds to appeal. Not ppd. Just the court dealing with a mentally ill child.
