Same. As a woman this is quite frightening. Being the female in this situation, I would have said this not just as a thank you but also to show up the other guys that were sitting there. Complimenting you for doing something very thoughtful is like a little wink in your direction, pointing out to the other guys that this is a stand out man right here. I think the reaction was all wrong which is unfortunate OP - unless she was sounding brutally sarcastic, then just take the water and drink it yourself - while staring right at her.

Yeah, the whole "I don't wanna wreck what we've got right now" seems to work. She'll normally respond with "yeah neither" because she'll still want to feel like she's got the upper hand/control with it, so no slut defense action taken.
