If they're going the opposite way you could try going for a high five with the group, go in with decently high energy and see whether you can stop the group to chat for a bit

The massive use of the 'alpha' and 'beta' words does irk me somewhat - but I admit they are useful words to describe the "do's and don'ts". So let's not try to think of an entire personality of a person being 'alpha', but rather, aspects of that personality or acts that that person has done - in a similar way to how we would use the "do's and don'ts" terminology.

When we get to the bar, Jamie pays for the first round. If a girl wants to buy you a drink, LET HER. It means she likes you, it means she's interested and it is implied that you are going to return the favor later on. Insisting that you buy the round or pay for your own drink comes off as desperate and eager to please. You're already pleasing her, that's why she's buying you a drink. love this bit, it is very true

Paradoxically, it takes strength to show your vulnerability. Most guys are not strong enough to do this.

100% agreed - that's why I said 'most average guys' haha. I think most guys who are into seddit, who have learned, understood and applied the principles of inner game will understand the appropriate way to make friends with girls (i.e. they're not necessarily making friends as a sly way to pick up).

Flirt back and see what happens

Honestly, I think most average guys who are 'close friends' with a girl secretly want her. Good on you for recognizing this and working on your inner game.

I'm a firm believer in the 'fake it til you make it' school. I think this is one way around the chicken/egg problem.

Think on the positive side here: not having a gf during college means you are free to go meet all the other women at uni! So much opportunity.

It depends on how you go about it - if you hit on girls without needing them, that isn't a needy way to do it. The reality is most people who begin on this seduction journey are quite needy in their mindset so I'm trying to suggest a method that helps reduce that (over time). Abundance mentality

I don't believe in the idea of 'the one' - I think there are plenty of girls you will be compatible with. Based on how he phrased it, I doubt he is already dating the girl, it sounds more like a girl he would like to date.

I wouldn't be overly worried, sometimes girls just want a bit of attention. You like it when girls flirt with you too, don't you?

I would say depending on age (most guys in this subreddit are young) - girls just have a higher average 'dating market value' purely because they're girls. They will flake on guys more often in their youth because they are being hit on so often (guys are all going after girls in that 18-25 age bracket) and so young girls just naturally have so many more options than young guys. This really only flips in the late 20's / early 30's, where the tables flip in favour of the guys (esp if you're single…

With all due respect, you're asking the wrong question. Don't be too focused on any one girl, go hit on many many girls. You will learn from the practice, and you will portray a less needy vibe (this is essential). edit: getting downvoted for this, maybe I put the wrong emphasis with the phrase 'hit on many many' girls - but honestly, you should be social and out there and meeting lots of people (including lots of different guys + girls). Once you know lots of girls, you won't feel so alone/need…

You can lead a horse to water... He has to find the motivation on his own, without it there is no hope.

Standard answer is "Fake it til you make it". If this doesn't help, try picking a good role model and 'act' like you're them. It's all about the strength of your belief in yourself.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
