Yes, the tool is being abused to lash out at people promoting unpopular views in general, not just on this sub. Reminds me of how real-life dictatorships abused psychiatry to silence non-violent and law-abiding dissidents by labelling them as mentally unstable.

Indeed. And it should be noted that Afghanistan is still a very tribal society, so when they say "family", they don't just mean their women and children; these young men are expected to help support their entire household, meaning not only their wives and children, but also their parents as well as any brothers, sisters and in-laws living under the same roof. Admittedly, the other family members are probably not all going to come over, but the young men are certainly expected to send a good part…
