Standing up for your self doesnt mean you need to escalate an interaction into violence. The crux of it is that you shouldnt be afrid to get into a confrontation (like a verbal or physical fight) but you shouldnt seek violence. But thats not to say you should throw a fit everytime some one wrongs you. Its all about having a healthy balance and assessing a situation to determine its cost/benifit ratio.
