It's not a comparison between actually rape and a false accusation that we should be focusing on. It's the fact that by falsely accusing someone they are attempting to take away a portion of their life. Whatever the sentence could have been should be applied to the person who lied if it can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they lied. And frankly this should apply to trying to frame someone for any crime.

I think the title is deliberately misleading. What it really means is that she was the second person to accuse him, not the second person to admit to lying about an accusation. It's a good story worth writing about, there absolutely no need to slap a misleading headline on it.

Well for one thing it would be a decision made within a set period of time after finding out. I'm not proposing that someone could just bounce when they no longer want to be a father. Your argument about a bunch of men deciding not to use preventative measures works both ways. Why would women use contraception when they can abort? Yet that doesn't seem to be a widespread problem. OMG if only I had understood the simplicity of this in the first place. People have sex, accidents happen, people lie about contraceptive use, people lie about who they've been having sex with sometimes muddying the waters of who is the biological father. Everyone should have a chance to make informed decisions about things that are going to alter the course of their life.
