How is it possible that 98.5 percent of ex's of both sexes are narcissist, gas lighters etc and all of the OPs are little angels only concerned about the children?

I used to work swing shift. While I'm home, my wife was working, and the kid was at school. You get the picture. Even though my son and I were very close from the day of his birth, many years later I told him how hard it was. When he was about 25 we revisited the subject, he told me he hadn't missed me in the slightest. We are still very close, but the point I was trying to convey is no matter how close you are with the kids, they probably are not getting that sick feeling in their gut the way y…

I think that if she ever disappears, you'll be on the next Date Line murder mystery episode.

The oldest "kid" is a week or so away from adulthood, so unless they are special needs, I don't know why they were mentioned. There is some court officer whose title escapes me, that will ask if the grandparents live near by and if they are involved in the kids' lives and to what extent, and if other family members are close by and to what extent they are involved. Finally they will ask the kid involved. For me personally, my dad took my son to school and picked him up everyday and was very much…

Is your higher education like mine? 4 week accelerated degree in Truck Driving Sciences? In CALIFORNIA, the judge would impute to her the wages she should or could be making. A nursing degree ( R.N.?) pays pretty well. This case is way too complex to get ANY kind of advice on Reddit.

50 years ago. Now, most states are no-fault. Plus, who can afford to pay a private investigator 1000 bucks an hour to get a pic of the two together heading for some unknown motel?

My comment was as accurate as the VA divorce attorney who spelled that out in an article he wrote on VA divorce. Plus coming to an anonymous website like Reddit is not a very good place to come for legal advice. LOL

You cannot get a divorce in VA if you are still living together. I live in CA and was married 28 yrs. You really do need a lawyer. On the day you two stop living together, everything has to be split 50/50 according to what your net worth was on that day. I went to the bank, took out the money that I worked for 60 hrs each and every week for and handed over half, gave her the car I bought her the previous year. The day she moved out, I made sure she left with half of the stuff that I alone worked…

True story. My wife insulted and called me names so often that when I was 30, my then 2 yr old son and I were walking to supermarket. Out of nowhere, he says to me "Shut up you stupid jerk"! But he some how used same voice inflections as her. Long story short, she's been living in her car 5 years. We were married over 20 yrs. She got NOTHING in alimony. She wouldnt work, She kept screwing up on all of the paper work and judge just threw alimony request out.

You may not have to pay alimony if you've been married less than 10 years . Plus if she's not working and she's able to...the court will impute to her wages that match skill set or at least impute to her minimum wage. I just went through all of this in June of last year. Married 27 years..I'm not paying any alimony ( California). Good luck!

Making small talk is the key. HUMOR is a MUST. Look up a few jokes online or go to library. I'm 60. I would make small talk with this 18 yo Hispanic girl at the restaurant I frequented and she worked at. I wasn't trying to pick up on her..just making small talk. It wasn't long before she just hands me her phone number.

I remember the 25 years of marital misery. It was not worth 50-75 times of sex. The child produced was, however.

She is, but it doesn't make any sense. Years ago we split up after selling our house. There was a small profit...but she wouldn't take her half. She couch surfed family. Today, I worry how a judge would look at me. A cold hearted sob? I only posted that one line because I'm still trying to figure out Reddit. I don't even know who will see this.

I don't understand why she won't accept a lump sum alimony settlement and pick her self up. She has no dispute with me over division of assets made 3 years ago. Her half was only 7k and a car. Not much to divide since this was 3rd major break up. She's not even seeking alimony. But I know when she gets served papers...she will want to go to war. We're both 58 and til 3 months ago I had $0 retirement saved. In last 3 months I've put 10k in IRA and 401k. You're right about seeing a lawyer. After 2…

Serving her is a big issue. Finding someone living in car who does not want to be served. It can be done...so can court imputing wages to her for alimony purposes. But it drives attorney costs even higher...then I will still have to pay her on top of attorney. I have had two major surgeries and been on disability 4 times in last 2 years. I'm 58 and don't know how much longer I can continue driving a truck. It's harder on knees and back than what one would think.

She received half of our assets, has poor work ethic and never got back on her feet in the 3 years we've been separated. She will not co-operate in divorce even though she would no doubt get alimony. She lives in her car. She won't even file papers to get alimony. Nothing makes sense about this. I suspect she is trying to keep me from meeting someone else. Most quality women dont want headaches and stigma of seeing a technically married man. My guess.

I drive a truck and make decent money but it's all due to long hours. She blew through her half of assets in a year because she won't work. She has lived in her car over a year. She would be entitled to significant alimony...BUT.. she won't co-operate. That's the part that makes no sense. Due to 30 years of marriage, the attorneys I spoke to want a significant retainer fee. The optics of her condition makes me look like a cold hearted man that kicked out a middle aged woman and turned her into a…
