Unfortunately the public record is less clear. Many witnesses say he was suffering from severe and quite disturbing mental illness which did include suicidal statements and possible threats to his children. More detail is included in this article: https://thegeekbuzz.com/the-basement/legal-filings-debunk-the-respondent-greg-ellis-belittling-proclamation-against-family-court/

Circumcised men are more likely to fail condoms. Give men options and the market is there.

I’m more struck by the angry pushback when it was revealed these were just 1,000 men from a Telegram group - and I mean long screeds saying overstating the truth by 62,000 times didn’t matter and any man saying it does is the problem. On the plus side, I’ve seen several female influencers saying this is insane - and God bless them!

It’s why I used to wear ACT UP t-shirts all the time. Or anything gay coded so I didn’t have to say anything.

I meant that I’ve felt seen and empathized either way in her work. But I understand you disagree.

She was one of the most sympathetic feminist voices to men.

It’s important to distinguish between what I call Social Media Feminism and real feminism - if you read bell hooks writing about men it’s enormously insightful and sympathetic about men in our culture. In fact the feminism I knew when I was a teen in the 70s was very much about creating a partnership society that would free all of us from the gendered strictures that still haunt us. Just as I hate the way some ascribe the qualities of the worst men to all men, so we shouldn’t assume every femini…

Has anyone updated the statistics in this article? It would be useful to see if things have gotten even better for women over the last 10 years or not. I mean, some things are worse, like the end of Roe v. Wade and the state abortion laws that have already killed women, but I think the workplace and income has definitely improved. But it’s the hard numbers that will tell us.

It has to do with a belief that attention to men’s issue will take away from attention to women’s issues, which under Trump et al are not in good shape. And if we acknowledge how much better things are for women now than 60 years ago, people might get complacent. Lately I try not to push back when the discourse gets so hostile but it’s hard.

Margaret Atwood pointed out that there are 70 different kinds of feminism, so ascribing any ideas to “feminism” generally is unhelpful to the point of obscurity. This is why, back in the ‘70s, feminists spent so much time attacking each other that I remember a Village Voice article begging feminists to cut it out. So maybe I’d amend this to say that there are popular forms of feminism that now seem more focused on female supremacy than equity and equality.

It’s not really an endorsement but more looking at her as an extreme example of female rage. She’s a character.

I remember the section where she said some men should be allowed to live, but must get on their knees and chant “I am a lowly abject worm” over and over again. I can imagine it in a Seth Rogen movie.

Solanas was a gun-wielding nut who nearly killed Andy Warhol. While her Manifesto is still widely read it isn’t exactly respected (it’s kind of hilarious - read it).

I hope he makes the point (he gets close here) that power is contextual: broader sociopolitical systems retain a lot of their misogyny, but in the academic system he mentions, the power is flipped. And the justification for the flip is the misogyny in the other contexts that don’t actually impact academic careers. Does privileging one group in one context relieve the lack of privilege in another? Or does a mix of opposing unfairnesses just create a soup of increasing resentments?

Now that we have male pansexuals and demisexuals who say they are not attracted to cis gender people at all, to be a gay cis man attracted to other gay cis men is more specific than ever. That most of these guys still mostly have sex with people who have male genitals, they say that’s just happenstance. It’s their call and their lives so who am I to say otherwise?

Yeah, that covers the experience really well - and it’s something that never gets looked at. I’m sick of it but at this point I mostly just check out because anything you say is sort of pre-invalidated.

I didn’t realize misandry was starting to impact trans men until I read this. But it’s a long-time issue in the gay community that’s recently gotten much worse - many gay men even wear their disgust for men (and for themselves for being attracted to men) as a badge of virtue. It’s how I ended up only going to leather bars, just to get away from the pressure to be less masculine - and it’s not like I’ve ever been super-butch but these guys trigger sooooo easily. I’m bored and exhausted b

There has been a reflexive shift back her way among extremely online women, mostly because of a historic pattern of abusive men accusing their victims of being the abuser. Nothing I’ve read seems based on additional information that contradicts the public record. There is a similar focus on the way Depp’s team aggressively defended him by digging up dirt on Heard, and the fact he had greater financial resources than she had. This mirrors the genuine stories of many victimized women but none of i…

While lots of circumcised men feel their sensitivity is not impacted, it’s important to point out that a significant number of men do lose so much sensitivity that they have difficulty maintaining erections and achieving orgasm. This often gets worse over time due to the keratinization of the exposed glans. My argument is why take the risk of that happening to your own son? Wouldn’t you regret that you had done that to him?

What MLK did was insist that people not resist with hate or anger but with love. This does not require you to remain in an abusive relationship but to refuse to take part in a cycle of negativity. Allowing bad things to happen to people you are mad at is like refusing to pull someone out of the way of a car because they’ve been mean to you - it has never led to a better world and personally it’s not something I could feel good about. But we’ll have to agree to disagree

I think you have it backwards: If you do to them what you perceive they are doing to you then you are no better than them; you have to be and model the behavior you want to see in the world - otherwise it's all just a matter of which hateful group gets power. I'm not interested in a world where women are dominated and I'm not interested in being dominated either. Unless you think Martin Luther King was a failure, instead of the great success his movement was, we have to recognize that hate never…

Well, if a white guy got racist in front of you would you say nothing? There’s nothing neutral about silence, and just as I don’t have to like an individual Jew or or Palestinian or Black person to refuse to tacitly participate in categorical hate, so I can’t do it when I witness misogyny. This isn’t transactional, it’s about deciding what kind of world we want to make. And in that world women also must be accountable for their shitty behavior.

There is one aspect where they have a serious point: when we hear misogyny from other men, we have to be willing to speak up and say it’s not cool and we won’t be a part of that behavior. In those moments, neutrality becomes complicity.

Reading all this strawmanning hostility makes me realize how lucky I was to be abandoned by my mother at 6 so I could be raised by my father. If she’d just divorced him normally I’d have likely been stuck with her chaos by the courts. (There was no spare cash for long legal battles and he still spent years paying back the cost of the relatively simple court case.). Eventually she got visitation and then I got years of emotional pressure to run away from my dad. I am so sick of hearing about men …
