Yeah I doubt this is going to feel helpful now, but my point really was that reading sooo deeply into every interaction (like the original post does) just makes it fall apart. My post was an attempt to be lighthearted and then to grasp at the past experience I’ve had to validate your point that social skills might need to be explicity taught, not to say that people in this sub have behavior issues too. I just think talking to potential dates should be approached a little more lighthearted and le…

Super interesting you chose the analogy of a bear. I would choose the bear too. Kidding, just kidding! But you’re right, social skills can be learned. I worked in a school with kids with severe behavior issues and they did teach social skills this way, with scripts even. So I see how it can be useful for a subset of people.

I think I get what you’re saying, but the post seemed to assume female passivity too. It read like an instruction manual for what a man should do. But I’m also really put off by how calculated this is. I feel like I’m a pretty socially competent person, but never in my life have I thought this much in depth about a social interaction, ever. And I can’t imagine that having this in mind and approaching a person would go well or ev…

I’m a woman. This information is correct, although the degree to which women feel more/less attracted because of hormones is….hard to quantify. I don’t like birth control at all and I have tried many and been on and off it (mostly off) for many years. I didn’t really notice differences in feelings of attraction while on or off different pills (and I’ve been with the same man for 15 years), but tbh part of being a woman is to have fluctuating hormones throughout the month and therefore fluctuatin…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
