When I was a younger lad, I often felt the burning critical/skeptical eye and tone of older women in social situations. Just existing as some guy that they don't know anything about, particularly in very progressive or female dominated spaces, was a big no no. You need to justify your right to exist in their space. I would try to explain this to my then girlfriend and she would act like it wasn't happening, even if I directly received cold words from someone. I still get this kind of attitude at…

I kind of understand where any male backlash against "men" comes from. They are really rebelling against guys that just fucking annoy them, and they hate existing in those circles and environments. When I was in my early 20's, I was kind of forced to hang out with guys that, yeah, I considered a bit beneath me. They were outside my core group of friends, but my core group started absorbing some of their "manly" bullshit, as I saw it. I wasn't some kind of art student elitist. I wasn't in school,…

"Bangmaid slave". You seriously think most men had this for all of history? Jesus. It's also weird how this person talks about how modern day men have to "start working for real" and "studying for real". What? My dad met my mom in Colorado Springs while in the military, while working, and so was my mom. This was in the 70's. Was my mom just a subservient maid to my dad? This just reeks of certain PMC liberal women having weird expectations/disappointment of men nowadays. "You're not up to my sta…

I, personally, don't like saying "too far left". No offense meant towards you. It's just that I prefer to differentiate between pseudo-cultish/terminally online radical liberalism and what I like to see as "traditional" leftism, which, while complicated and diverse in it's own right (it's how I became a "leftist" over 20 years ago), was/is more socialistic, class conscious, and inevitably sought to unite people under a tent, and that tent included social justice/identity focused folks. Things ha…

Yep. I find it really disturbing how confident everyone is. There is a lack of self-criticism, self-awareness and critical thinking when it comes to people's views. The internet has obviously made it so much worse. It's a seemingly endless stream of infographs and overly simplistic, snarky shorts/Tiktok videos that are preachy or misinformed crap. I don't even care if I agree with someone. Most of the time it's just conveyed in such a lame ass way. Just shut up.

I don't disagree with your points, really, if you are talking about women of average or above looks. I just wanted to say that not all women get that attention when they are young. I'm not assuming you don't know this. I'd even go as far as guessing close to a majority don't get too much attention. I know plenty of women that never got much attention from guys at all. A lot of them, even when they did, didn't like it. I do notice women in their 40's and 50's, too. It's just extremely difficult t…

I'm 41 and prefer my age (at least mid 30's) or older. It seem even harder as you get to my age. I'm so desperate that I consider cold approaching sometimes, but I wouldn't actually do it. At least when you are younger you are going out more, if you have friends, and people have not formed as many biases or developed as much resentment or reservations about the opposite sex. It just feels hostile out there. Even on a good day for myself, where I'm happy with what I'm wearing, I've saved the ener…

It's kind of frightening, as you don't even need to have ever dated to potentially have shit on you. Someone just feels you rub them the wrong way? They can go talk shit on you on some app now.

As someone that is kind of picky about things that I do, I have to kind of force myself to say yes to more things. Basically, I have to look at any opportunity to be social as a good thing, as a way to meet new people and/or a significant other. Things came much more naturally when I was younger. I could follow along and things would just keep happening. Now, at 40, if there isn't a local band playing that my few friends are going to see, I might not hang out with anyone for months. I've current…

I thought having my own place would change things. I have a job, savings, big 'ole apartment with a full size washer and dryer. More than I ever thought I'd have. It's just impossible to meet people, and those people have become pickier. Our real life, in person social networks have collapsed in certain ways. As you get into your 30's and 40's, it becomes much worse. All in all, I'm not complaining. I'm trying to improve myself. When I think about other guys younger than me or not in as great of…

I deleted Tinder about 4-5 months ago. If you are someone that gets down from these apps, I highly suggest deleting them. My life is not perfect, I am not the happiest person. Once I quit Tinder, though, I returned to my baseline self. It's not a good place and you are just another cog in their machine by being a member. Just quit. Your odds of finding a date, compared to dating apps, are probably quadrupled just by randomly talking to people you meet in real life. I haven't met anyone, sure, bu…

I know it's not the same for everyone in Europe, or just western Europe, but the vacation/holiday thing is completely different than the US. For the most part, the only people I know that take long vacations are either rich, upper middle class, or from somewhere in western Europe. By long vacation I mean more than a week. My co-worker, who is Dutch, will be gone for at least 2 weeks sometimes, but sometimes a bit longer. Almost unheard of in this country, which is a shame. Years ago, I was gone …

Your life is a bit different than mine. I've always been low-income, but I saved my money. Plus, I lived rent free, or nearly rent free, for a good chunk of my life. That helps a ton. I also was in a long-term relationship with a woman (still my best friend) that made more money than me and was the opposite of what you describe about women paying/being paid for. She would insist on paying for anything because she knew I didn't make any money. She's also probably the most hard feminist I know. Th…

I've read repeatedly about the points that Scott and others have expressed. Women want a man that is as educated as them, and makes as much money as them. That's the gist of it. I'm all for an educated society, but I think this is a tad bit shallow. I understand that if a woman, say, spent 6-8 years going to university/medical school to become a doctor, she does not want to date a guy that is stocking shelves at Target. I get it. This does not represent the majority of women. They have a Bachelo…

I think about this a lot. My main conclusion is that we just live in really complex times and there isn't much you can do about it. You can only do what you can to seek out someone that does not have these economic views and expectations of the opposite sex. I try to do everything I can to not let my own frustration, or my own bad experiences (specifically dating sites), affect my views on this too much. It's kind of hard, though, because there are still so many old-fashioned things going on in …

This is a problem on the left overall. They don't have access to the people that are causing the problems. There are multiple layers of protection for those people/institutions. So, they go after the "soft targets", as you say. Call me paranoid, but I feel like in certain environments on the left, people are waiting for me to fuck up, even though I'm totally on their side. Acting kind, having empathy, being present and listening aren't enough. If you are a of a certain look, you need to have fir…

Also, another aspect might be that white people in general, not just white women, are increasingly moving into areas that were previously majority black/minority. White people (at least from my 40 years as one), especially middle class and professional, tend to have a more closed off existence in public. Think going into your suburban home and not saying hi or acknowledging any of your neighbors. It's not completely like that in a lot of minority neighborhoods. There is less guilt about hanging …

I've seen that "well maybe men need to work on/improve themselves" line more and more in response to this stuff. It's honestly kind of confusing. Who are we talking about? This character of a guy that's in his room, surrounded by Marvel merchandice, playing video games and watching choke porn? I have my own nice apartment, a job, tons of savings, an interesting life (at least according to others), am told by women I'm quite attractive, and live in a hip, desireable, walkable/bikeable area. No da…
