No, it is played for comedic effect. The movie would be characterizing it as bad behavior if they held the mother responsible for her choices and brought her back around to the boy in order to apologize to him. That never happens. Certainly not for the boy. Only Mei is treated as a human being in that scenario with her mother realizing that she has negatively affected her daughter. The boy she harassed and assaulted is just a prop in the story.

Ahahahahaha! If it is primarily carried by women it’s their own damn fault. No one is responsible for making someone else carry an invisible mental load.

The writer of the original story literally characterized it as “talking to her”. That’s all they wrote. If there was any actual evidence of legitimately threatening or dangerous behavior I suspect they would have mentioned it.
