The onus falls on the person. Are there really no jobs they can take? Part of that question falls into the skills required for that job. What skills does it take to work fast food or a convenience store clerk? I doubt that there are "no jobs"; rather, there are jobs people aren't willing to take because it is not an income to support them (and their family) for the long term. I'm against redistribution of wealth because I don't think it is fair for anyone to have to share anything for any reason. I will be affected because it seems like a slippery slope to me. Not necessarily. There are those who are poor by way of unemployment or being paid lower wages. I like to see those people take the initiative though and work harder to get out of those situations. I don't believe in just handing them money. Like I mentioned in another post, if they're working toward something, I'm okay helping but not when they are like the mom in the video with the five kids.

Great points! As someone who used to work in the public school system I absolutely agree! I am completely okay with giving money to help support programs for people willing to work for it. My argument was aimed more at the notion of simply having money means I should share it. I have a problem with that mentality.

Exactly! I read a post from r/bestof a while ago that had solid advice to a young lady who won the lottery in the UK I believe. She had mentioned that her family was poor and she didn't know what to do. He said that if your family is poor they will likely continue to he regardless of any injection of cash because they choose to be poor by way of poor financial decisions.

Do you give money to people who are starving? And no, it isn't my moral obligation to help them at all. You believe it should be, but I disagree on the grounds that I don't think it is fair for anyone but me to decide what happens with my money. If I want to donate it, I will; but I do it on my terms.

Agreed. I've seen many arguments for "wealth redistribution" on Reddit but the ones I've commented and discussed with never mention children or why people are poor in the first place. I had an ex with the mentality of just wanting babies but refused to work. As someone who doesn't want kids, why should any of my income be handed over to someone else who can't afford their children?

Why? Even in this video Judge Judy says it best, "She had as many children as she could afford". Coming from someone who doesn't want children if I had millions of dollars why would any of that money go to anyone who needs it? Shouldn't they he held accountable for the choices they made? When I was younger, I had a hedonistic approach to sex and rarely thought of any consequences. As I've gotten older and gone through relationships I have a more rational approach and discuss the issue with the woman at depth to find if she's even someone I'd want to continue to have sex with.
