In fact, throughout history prostitution was the normal way for men to fulfill their sexual needs. Casual hookups are a product of the sexual revolution and a historical anomaly.

Man, I've been pointing to exactly this again and again in this sub, and everytime I felt like preaching in the desert. So tiresom.

Prostitution exists for a reason. And has existed from the down of history. If just sex is the issue, that's the solution.

Back then sex (...) was only imaginable after marriage, and that's how things were kept in order Prostitution enters the chat.

No they aren't. And before feminism arose you'd be just ignoring them and slut-shaming prostitutes. But thanks for building such a strawman anyway without addressing any of my points.

How does this discredit my point?

Thanks for showing you don't understand men's perspective. (I don't care if you do or not anyway.) it’s not like patriarchal societies ever tried to ban prostitution, oh wait I'd be glad to discuss these examples.

It's towards the end of the chapter before the conclusions in the aforementioned book. She refers to Mary Wollstonecraft, who already in the 1790s had a similar approach. Btw there are many antifeminists who buy her product, just because she doesn't look like the average Andrea Dvorkin. Most women have a hard time figuring out that we men have a higher libido than them, and oc that for us sex and affection can be perfectly separate, so they just project their views on us. And, in fact, most femi…

What’s the solution then? Are men just supposed to not release sexually at all? As a side note, this is what the feminist-but-apparently-not-so-feminist Louise Perry says towards the end of her The case against the sexual revolution.

Sex isn't special, and it's not a big thing, and I've never known a generation have more of an issue with something so basic as the current one A most overlooked fact indeed.

100 years ago you'd be saying prostitutes are witches who rob young boys of their innocence. It's so funny to see how discourses change with time.

Lmao no. And again, modern dating and casual sex are quite recent, not how societies have historically worked. But I know history tends to be ignored when it doesn't fit the narrative.

And, yet again in this sub, both OP and most comments are ignoring the fact that prostitution has historically been the most prevalent way for single or celibate (and even many married) men to have sex and that the whole idea of it being "for losers" is just another by-product of the sexual revolution.

I do agree with a great deal of this. The main reason prostitution exists is men having a higher libido during a larger part of life than women. And, if you look at history, you see both hookup culture (as the normal way of obtaining sex) and modern dating (as the normal way for forming LTR/marriages) are products of the sexual revolution and not normal at all in human history. As for the sex, the historically more frequent, and also historically the socially more tolerated form of quench men's …

It may well be that you crave both sexual release and genuine desire. Since they aren't the same thing, you can fulfill them by different means.

An observation most folks here seem to ignore. That's why I don't take the OP seriously even if I support prostitution.

In conclusion... paying a prostitute is nothing like a relationship. It was never meant to be. That's why marriage and prostitution have lived together in all minimally complex societies throughout recorded history.

Prostitution is a way (the historycally most frequent and most tolerated one btw) to quench the biological thirst men have to cum in a pussy. Period. All this "desire" talk (a very modern one btw) and comparing prostitution with relationships, as if they were alternatives, makes little if any sense.

based on archaic ideas of what sex should be Actually earlier societies were way more tolerant with prostitution than the current Western one. While women always saw it with suspicion (for several reasons), it was deemed a quite normal thing for men to do, something that didn't oppose, but rather complemented marriage because, for men, sex, love, and family can perfectly walk down different paths. Afaik (but I'm not aware of any historical study on the matter) it's only from the sexual revolutio…

Like the motivations study another commenter posted earlier. None of this studies is reliable, and many of them are ideologically driven to shed a particular light on this phenomenon.

Regardless of this being true or not, this is how they self-perceive it, and one of the main reasons why modern women are "programmed" to oppose prostitution.

In fact, if you look at history, prostitution is the normal way for men to obtain sex outside of marriage. Casual sex, as we know it nowadays, is a product of the sexual revolution and a historical aberration.

No. And I'm one wanting it to be de-stigmatized. But 1) women have always hated prostitution throughout history (be it because they see hookers as rivals or, more recently, because they may sometimes lower their "prize"), and 2) since the sexual revolution, men as well have become convinced (I'd say: scamed) that paying for sex is for "losers", so A) nobody wants to be seen as such, and B) those who indeed are good ad casual sex are interested in keeping the stigma to keep their "status". So no,…

I don't quite get your point man.

Because men have higher libidos than women, so historically prostitution was the main way to give those men the sex they weren't having at home (besides servicing celibate men of). So prostitution acts as a sort of escape valve for the differences in sexual desire between men and women. Even now a great deal of clients are married men (and I'm pretty sure at least some of the married men you know are among them). This is why prostitution is prevalent in any minimally complex society both synchro…

There is a case to be made for legalizing prostitution but I would rather it not if we can have healthy and lasting monogamous relationships as the norm LMAO monogamy and prostitution (well, marriage of any kind and prostitution) have gone hand in hand for millennia. They complement each other, and I'd dare to say they need each other. That said, I don't quite get the point the OP is trying to make...

just isn't historically our way of doing things as humans This is a factor I rarely see considered in this sub. With this and other man-woman interactions. And, if you disregard history, your analysis will be necessarily flawed.

Are often autistic/neurodivergent. Very high chance that your kids will be autistic too. Why is nobody mentioning this nonsense?

This is the elephant in the room that I'm seeing in this comment section thus far.
