(not OP) That's true, but working in a factory is still much safer than working in a war theater. You don't have to be part of a combat unit to be killed by an IED or an air strike. And you don't have to be killed to have your health permanently damaged, as those returning without limbs and faces can attest. And you don't have to be wounded to suffer from harsh conditions living in the field. In the Pacific in WW2, over 60% of all soldiers contracted malaria at some point. And even if your body …

Idc if your think this “men are wonderful” or sexist I don't think observations are sexist, only moral judgments. Observing that physical violence is predominantly commited by men can't seriously be disputed. However, suggesting that male victims of that violence are somehow at fault because men commit so much violence is something I consider sexist. In any case, regarding gender disparities in problem solving: I don't think I've observed a gender-related difference in "linear" vs "holistic". Th…

I believe most men don't express it at all, as long as they can anyway. Because they all had bad experiences the few times they tried to do it, being discouraged from bringing up feelings of anger, depression, duress. In general, it seems that women have an "advantage" in harm perception. At a broader level, societal concern is more readily directed toward women’s challenges. For instance, underrepresentation of women in male-dominated fields like engineering is often attributed to discriminatio…

Many men seemed to have needed other activities or programming to facilitate friendship and the maintenance of the friendship. In a way that doesn’t seem to be as necessary for female-female longlasting friendships. I agree with your observation, but I disagree that one form of bonding would be more natural than the other. Although I find the term sexism a bit overused, I find it apt in this situation: Claiming the way women do something is "more natural" than the way men do it. I believe this i…

Absolutely, and I'm sure there are women who experience it even stronger than some men. I always think of these things in terms of distributions. You mentioned you work in statistics, so I'm sure you know what I mean. Yes there will be some overlap, but I feel this is a thing with a considerable effect size. And there is a strong expectation for men to become competent. If they fail at it, it's their fault. If it's not working, they need to find a way. You said something curious about your frien…

What has led to so many men being essentially friendless? A large part is the lack of genuinely male spaces. It is (would be) very important for us to be away from women for some time, do our own thing, discover ourselves in a group. Nope, can't have that anymore. Boy Scouts are the best examples. Despite there being a dedicated Girl Scouts counterpart, Boy Scouts now have to admit women/girls as well. Being friends comes naturally to boys and men (a bit sexist to insinuate the opposite, no?). B…

In my observation, men seem to need to feel accomplished in a very specific way. That's literally the theme of Breaking Bad. So yes, it's a big thing for the overwhelming majority of men. In any case, I'd expand it a bit: For me, feeling competent at something is crucial. That there is something I am really good at doing, and that this is my own achievement.

Because this is how the English language works. Writing "and" as part of an enumeration signifies a conjunction, i.e., all three attributes are required. Otherwise, "or" is typically used.

True, but you wrote "and". So I assumed attractive means being all three.

Tbh I am bothered though because I'd like to understand the opinions of those who don't agree with me. I've been on Reddit since around 2008 (but not all the time), so it's not surprising that it happens sometimes. However, what changed over the years is the lack of any counter argument when digging a little below the established talking points. I see it as a sign of less and less commitment when communicating. Same thing like ghosting on OLD. "I don't feel like it, I leave" has no social costs,…

It might not be so clear but rather a matching problem. If you have just superficial clues (online dating, speed dating, etc.), you'll go for the ones signalling high status (height, wealth). However, if you'd know the person a bit longer, other factors would become equally or even more important.

I would buy this if it was not for the continuing attempts to blame "the other side" for the sad state of affairs. I found it funny how MGTOW could hardly speak about anything but women, and I find it funny how /r/WomenDatingOverForty can't make their mind up if men are the devil or the ultimate prize. If a person is single and happy and does not see how to improve their life through a relationship, good for them. And maybe that is true for more women than men. However, when reading female-centr…

but they will never be against men building shelters Wrong. Erin Pizzey established the first refuge for women suffering from domestic violence. A feminist hero, right? Well, afterwards she tried to do the same for men. The result were threats and violence directed against her. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Pizzey

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women-are-wonderful_effect The women-are-wonderful effect is the phenomenon found in psychological and sociological research which suggests that people associate more positive attributes with women when compared to men. This bias reflects an emotional bias toward women as a general case.

Well, prior to the 19th century, most people worked in agriculture and lived from what they grew (subsistence farming). As such, men did not get really paid either in our modern understanding. In any case, everybody worked equally hard as a matter of survival. Women's "jobs" would have been somewhat closer to the home and require a bit less body strength (still very demanding), and vice versa. During some events like harvest, everybody worked together.

I'm not sure what "swapping biology for socialization" means. Socialization is constraint by the underlying biology, not some arbitrary thing that can be changed simply because we want it. Further, I would not associate preferences (resources, looks) with superficiality. If you want to have a baby with a bright future, you'll look for a husband who can provide well for the baby with his resources. That is rational, not superficial.

You should check your stats again, there are many more countries with male conscription only. On top of my head, I only know of 3 countries with conscription for men and women: Israel, Norway and Sweden. However, Norway and Sweden only draft those able and motivated, so it's still largely voluntary. What other countries are there? Be aware that not all countries have active conscription, such as the US (selective service). That does not change the fact that only men can be conscripted. Finally, …

As long as children are born by women, that is not going to happen. Women's preference for economic success is not arbitrary, it's causally linked to our biology. Even without children, the cost for entering a new relationship is higher for women than for men (potential physical violence, STDs). As compensation, you'll want your partner either to be very attractive or to have more resources than you do or both. That is a limited pool, obviously. With many more women going to university than men …

The end result are simply staggering rates of singles. Men watch porn, women read romantic novels en masse. This is not an outcome anyone should be gleeful about.

It is still true, though. Women still greatly desire to be spoiled rotten. It's majorly unattractive if you have to ask the woman for her money to buy her gifts to do that. Besides, good looking and being economically successfull is highly correlated. As such, the whole discussion is inane. There is no vast pool of hot but poor men. Edit. If you downvote, please have the courtesy to explain why. We can hardly have a debate otherwise. Thanks.

Many times women have said they never want to be approached, so I expect there are absolutely women who do mind.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/11/24 12:54 PM

I think that is quite in line with established surveys about sexual behavior. Men have a bit more partner than women, median is around 6-8, a few super active persons.

Feedback on the graphics: My all time favorite thing is ggplot and using facets. You basically want to show as much as possible in as few graphics as possible. It also has themes and styles that work very well.

I don't think any insults are going to be effective. I don't know this fuentes guy (other than from a couple headlines) but insults would increase his reach. Social Media is all about increasing reach, which you would support that way. I'm naive and think MLK had it right: Judge them according to the content of their character. Is that going to be effective? In the long term yes, in the short term no. Show that your side can make a better offer, not just scream louder. Point out the specific iss…

Shaming only works if you agree on a moral rule. Saying "you are a virgin, therefore you are a loser" would be such a rule. If you don't believe that you will not be convincing. If you do believe that you'll hurt a lot of peopel on your side. But you can always point out if others do not follow their own moral rules. If a guy says "if you are a virgin you are a loser" and is a virgin, you can tell that guy he's a loser in his own world.

With you except for the last part. Everybody is allowed to be cautious. It does not mean false accusations are frequent but have happened, with innocent men committing suicide because of it (example). In the worst case you'll need a witness, thus can't be alone with a female colleague.

A false flag operation? Some, but I don't think all. One of the bad issues with only interaction is that we know little about the context of a person's opinion. Most discussions are about topics important in the US, but only half of all Reddit users are from the US. "Conservative" in the US means something very different from "Conservative" where I live. Another issue is age and how we were socialized in our youth. Beauty standards have a different meaning if you grew up on IG.

This. Same with /r/WomenDatingOverForty, the sort-of successor to /r/FemaleDatingStrategy. People there can't make up their mind if they actually want a relationship or not because they think all men are despicable. I see lots of people who are hurting really bad and bonding over shared grief.

Yes and no. The way you present it the sentence is false and a common example of flawed thinking. But that does not mean there is no problem. If all A's are B's you only know that some B's are A's, not that all B's are A's. If all rapists eat chocolate you only know some chocolate eaters are rapists; not that all chocolate eaters are rapists. In statistics, it's the problem of conditional probability. Too many people seem to think "if almost all rapists are men, almost all men are rapists." Of c…
