Have you ever seen deodorant prices? The surface prices are the same but you get WAY more product per dollar with men's stuff. It is true that nothing is stopping women in most situations from buying the men's stuff, except for the fact that many don't know about it (what companies rely on). For example, my SO picked up a men's hoodie the other day because it was more comfortable and cheaper than a women's hoodie of the same quality.
/r/MensRights26/06/15 01:44 PM

It's basic market segmentation. The same method by which men's deodorant costs less for example. There's more demand in the female sector and they're willing to pay a higher price, so they're charged more than men. We either have to ignore all of this or view it all the same. Gotta take the bad with the good.

However, there is no evolutionary reason justify being gay Some actually try to argue, that in a far-ahead society that has most everything fine for survival (read: you'll have no issue in this life preventing you from reproducing) then homosexuality will appear over time. Many stipulate this is a form of population control in "utopias". Oh yeah it's definitely a complicated issue. I have trust in the doctors who overdid that because I was born in a country where it's not done unless medically necessary. It's considered a full-fledged operation just like anything else, not a cosmetic surgery. My case was BAD and sadly it had to go.

Not him but I'm glad about it because it was done to me at 3. Thing is mine was one of the rare cases that had to be done to treat phimosis. Otherwise I would have preferred if none of that happened. That operation was ingrained into my memory and it's one of the two memories I have from when I was 3 because of how scared and confused I was.

Although I generally try to avoid linking to avfm, this article does it well: http://www.avoiceformen.com/sexual-politics/evo-psych/men-are-exceptional-2/ Basically it boils down to chromosomes (only one x and one y leads to more differentiation than two x) as well as evolutionary disposability of men leading to riskier genetic variation in males.

Oh yeah I agree it's unlikely, but there's no evidence either way to make a fully informed judgement in either direction. It's impossible to outright deny the fact that there's a possibility it's not sexist without hard evidence, which nobody has provided me. Thanks for being level-headed.

Average SATs for math or for all around? Because MIT cares about the reading and writing portions of the SAT as well. They also include the ACT but I'm not sure how gender plays a role in that. What policy are you referring to? As far as anyone knows, there's no set in stone policy there.

Hey, thanks for the information, and thanks for being civil in the discourse. I really am trying to just make sure both sides of the story get seen, and a lot of times that leads to tons of claims of me being a feminazi or whatever, but at heart I'm not. Sorry if anyone got that impression, but in general I think the whole thing is a sore stick in the mud.
/r/MensRights09/03/15 01:50 AM

Yes, I have no data because that data isn't made public and I can't get access to it as a student. In regards to that link, do you have something similar to that but for the other two portions of the SAT? If you do then that would help me lean towards your side a little more but right now I'm just trying to play devil's advocate.

A) Wow. I hope you're not majoring in a STEM field. The average doesn't matter, only the average of those who were accepted. If the average would be the same if they admit more men in, based on the ratio of applicants, then to not admit more men based on the ratio of applicants is sexism. B) If it were the case that the women were more qualified they obviously wouldn't need the policy, because they'd be selecting the more qualified applicants; who just happen to be female. Ok, then of those acce…
/r/MensRights09/03/15 01:30 AM
-2

The question is if it's fair. Or even LAWFUL. Well it's fair if it's shown that the average woman applying has better stats than the average male. That is information that is quite possible and probable given how women are more self-selective in regards to admissions here. As for the lawful, they're a private company so Title IX rules don't apply in the same ways as they would for other colleges.
/r/MensRights09/03/15 01:19 AM
-7

Take this hypothetical example. 100 men apply and their average gpa is a 3.75. 50 women apply and have an average gpa of 4.25 Of course more percentage of women will get in given those numbers. And this is a very real possibility.
/r/MensRights09/03/15 01:15 AM
-5

Are you kidding me? There's no way you got into MIT. The number of applicants are different, therefore they are selecting a higher percentage of women than men. This is like middleschool level math, dude. What if the average female applying is possibly more qualified than the average male applying? White male here (since that makes it so hard to get in apparently), frequenter of this sub since a long time ago, and here is proof. http://i.imgur.com/ANxdPwP.jpg
/r/MensRights09/03/15 01:13 AM
-4

Please show me actual hard evidence to the fact that less-qualified women are getting in compared to more-qualified men being denied. Other than just plain admissions numbers because those don't capture average female vs average male performance/grades/stats.
/r/MensRights09/03/15 01:05 AM
-2

I'm not trying to imply that it is always good. I'm just trying to say that it works for MIT and they're still doing fine.
/r/MensRights09/03/15 01:03 AM
1

To be honest, most people here are 100% capable of doing well and it's incredibly hard to see who is the "top" or "bottom" of the class. MIT doesn't actually release that information to the public so while it is true that some are better than others, it's impossible to know for sure who it is.
/r/MensRights09/03/15 01:02 AM
-7

That's not what they're doing. They're clearly choosing a higher percentage of women than the application pool simply because they are women. How can you prove this for sure? It's commonly known (at least to MIT) that women are more selective to themselves, and don't apply if they're not 100% sure while more males apply even when they're not qualified?
/r/MensRights09/03/15 12:59 AM

I say similar because I have fairly good knowledge of others' grades, but to be able to say same I would have to have access to their grade reports, which I do not.

Unless you all went to the same high schools, had the same teachers, and have the same standardized test scores, I have a hard time believing you. Well in that case then there's just too much variance and you'll have to take my word for it. I realize it's anecdotal but it's all I have in that regard and MIT doesn't post any privatized data. Also please explain to me why presence of a vagina is considered for applicant ranking and why having more vaginas around is good for engineering? To answer …

I meant diverse campus amongst the most intelligent of their applicants. It's far from a hippy colony. What I'm trying to say is that they don't accept people who shouldn't be here at all. They simply can only accept so much and to do that they look at what each person and viewpoint can contribute to the class and campus. Their vision has been to try for 50/50 while maintaining that each person inside is of equal merit, and they've stayed one of the top research universities in the world due to …
/r/MensRights09/03/15 12:14 AM
-13

What if MIT is interested in having a diverse campus? If a group is of the same merit, why not allow those in so that more people are represented? It's not judging solely on gender. It's just like how mit has so many Asians so it's actually harder for them to get in because MIT tries to get a diverse community where everyone is just as qualified. They'd love to take in more people and that's widely known, but there simply isn't enough space to accept everyone.
/r/MensRights08/03/15 11:49 PM
-12

MIT student here. They accept roughly 50/50 because there's simply so many good candidates. Women who apply here are usually more qualified on average due to the fact that the women applying are more self selecting, as in it's more likely for a bad male to apply than it is for a bad femaile. Additionally, once you get to a certain point on the bell curve, they have so many applicants that can't really be "ranked" per se according to possible achievement. You have a bunch of people who are all at…

You're missing the forest for the trees. In the context of the email, this refers to the societal expectations of men having to be stoic and hardened all the time, not seeking help for mental health, etc. What's wrong with promoting healthy masculinity while pushing for men to be more open in getting help with issues they face with regards to sexual harassment and mental health? My one issue with the second link is that there are so many people that qualify to come study here, and at a certain point they can accept about a third of applicants. Couple that with the fact that girls do tend to be more self-selecting (personal experience) and I don't see the problem if they work to get a 50-50ish ratio. Everyone here deserves to be here. Many of those not here could have come here, and MIT themselves states that.

Also, if it is going to be a "feminist-informed" organization, consistently promote a pro-MRM line in all meetings and discussions while repeatedly declaring that you are promoting a "feminist-informed" viewpoint, since feminism's stated goals and purposes are to promote gender equality. In other words, don't let them define the terms and parameters of debate; define the parameters for them. That's the goal. Ultimately, MRM ideals are exactly what those who support real/dictionary feminism.
