The "99% of rapes" stat comes from a study (I think it was by the WHO) that defined rape as "inserting a penis into another person", with the sole exception being statutory/child rape (that's the other 1%). They used a one-sided definition to get a one-sided result, and nobody cared because it conveniently supported the feminist narrative that men are evil perpetrators and women are harmless victims. It is VERY widely cited online among man-hating feminists.

That trick with statistics is exactly how feminists tried to make "femicide" a thing: out of all women who were murdered, something like 30% of them were murdered by a domestic partner vs 5% of men who were murdered. That sounds like a scary difference, but women are around 6x less likely to be murdered in the first place so it inflates the proportion 6x. I've spent a lot of time thinking about this, too. There is no such thing as a "free marketplace of ideas", it's an ecosystem. Ideas spread from one mind to another, and the ideas that dominate are not necessarily the most useful or beneficial for humanity. The only cure for bad ideas is a healthy society, and breaking the cycle of ideas which perpetuate human suffering is not an easy task.

Gender has everything to do with it because of how ubiquitous and insidious feminist propaganda is. Girls are taught from a very young age that all men are evil and that feminism is the only solution to fight the bad guys keeping them down. Consequently, women are feminist by default. I started watching him for the urban planning stuff too! He had a lot of in-depth videos about improving transportation in cities, but he gradually started shifting his content style to fast-paced edutainment slop with eye-catching graphics and not much substance.
