Similar situation. I blew mine up because I didn’t want to be with someone who wasn’t in love with me. I did the work, she didn’t care to. There was a point where I realized it would never be like it was. It takes two special people to both be putting in a renewed effort to make things work after such a long time. Resentment, expectations, anger, fear, doubt all can be too much to get past or repair. I miss seeing my kids every day. I miss my home. I miss being part of the routine I had created …

When I stopped beating myself up about the past. When I decided to make every day’s focus on being better for myself in any way I could. and being happy about what was left. Everyone’s circumstances are different. The only thing that is the same is our ability to control our reactions and how we view things. I choose the path of peace. Do the work on yourself, which it seems like you are doing and ride the waves of emotion and take it one day at a time. It will get better my friends.

This is the way OP. This story is as old as time. You’re wasting energy over something that is never coming. Focus on your future relationships having accountability as a deal breaker / boundary, but you aren’t going to get it in this one.

In the end it’s just a day. Stay within your routine. Journal. Clean the house / apartment. Workout. Practice gratitude for what you have in your life not what is missing. Try to stay positive. The only way is through, regardless of how hard it is or empty you feel on this particular day. Tomorrow it won’t be Christmas and life will move on. Things will get better. You don’t always have to see the end of the path in order to take the next step. Hope this helps someone today.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
