Both men and women have instant access porn, only women have instant validation

What's the alternative? Willful delusion? Some people have fewer opportunities than others, that's just life

"Women, when compared to men, reported higher levels of relationship quality across every relationship but that with the mother" Close Relationships and Happiness Across Cultures Yup, since relationship quality is the greatest predictor of happiness and women have greater relationships, than they have the most privilege

Or you can look at it as everyone out there isn’t suited for me and I have as much as right to rejection them and find what I want as they do. Yeah but men have to be practical, we can't afford to be a selective as women otherwise many of us would be stuck alone. The less options you have the more likely you'll be to settle.

Platonic and familial love counts just as much as romantic love if not more

So when are young people going to accept that human connections are as much fuel for our bodies and minds as food and ditch the fallacy that we can ever be happy living our lives via a smartphone? I don't think many people are arguing against this, the problem is that human connections are hard to find and smartphones are a cope for that. When are you all going to stop evaluating your self worth in this world based on tinder swipes and Instagram likes? I think most men would be happy to throw aw…

Well, having a benefit of having stronger social/security net doesn't necessarily mean that women overall have it better. In America it does, since there aren't any privileges greater than having a strong social net and there aren't any significant privileges that men have and women don't.

I'm only talking about America here since most Redditors are American such as myself. I can't speak for other countries, but they seem to be headed in the same direction as America (things are getting better for women and worse for men). As a whole, the world is becoming more technologically focused which means people spend more time apart (social media and dating apps replace meeting in-person). As this trend continues, women will be at a greater advantage since social relationships will be eve…

As people usually consider a privilege something that a group enjoys in the expense of others or unfairly for some reason. A privilege is just an advantage you were born with. The point I'm making is that society often acts like men are most privileged due to the wage gap, but the love gap is far more consequential

Marriage quality and marriage status are not the same thing. Quality of relationships is what matters not quantity

many people have the idea that they need a relationship to be happy. Like you said, this varies per person. But the research I've found is that they have a better CHANCE at finding happiness with loving people around them. Nothing is guaranteed however.

Happy marriages and unhappy marriages are showing the same pattern. What research do you have that says marriage quality has no bearing on personal well-being?

Except it doesn’t. You are trying to make a correlation into a causation. I don't think you know what predictor means, it implies correlation not causation. You are the one who keeps bringing up causation.

You keep linking correlation to causation. Where did I mention causation? Tons of people live just fine alone, some have lived all there lives without even meeting another human Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule. It's just significantly less likely for you to be happy when you are living alone without loving relationships in your life.

Marriage does not cause people to be happier and has zero impact on a persons happiness. I never said this. I said that loving relationships are the greatest predictor of happiness

Close relationships count! As long as you have mutual care and vulnerability, you're well off

I think most people agree with it. I disagree, a lot of men and women here downplay the importance of loving relationships. Being loved is one of the greatest privileges yet people focus more on money and material success. "Women, when compared to men, reported higher levels of relationship quality across every relationship but that with the mother" Close Relationships and Happiness Across Cultures Studies show (such as what I cited above) women have closer and more intimate relationships than m…

Well, what is considered “love”? Having an intimate and close relationship woth another person Did this study mean long term romantic relationships, or did it include friendships, family, professional relationships as equally valid ? The latter I assume “intimate” means sexy sex was happening, yes? Not necessarily, it just meane being vulnerable with another person you can trust are we happy because society is structured, promotive and supportive of intimate relationships? If this were true, eve…

One step ahead of me, was going to use this post as evidence for the fact that having a dating & social advantage is the best advantage you can have. Thus most women are more privileged than men.

Yup, we are some of the most social beings. Unfortunately America has only become more individualistic and technology continues to pull us all apart. This goes against are nature and I think we're seeing the effects of it now more than ever.

Sounds nice but it isn't true. Social isolation significantly increased a person's risk of premature death from all causes, a risk that may rival those of smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity. Social isolation was associated with about a 50% percent increased risk of dementia. https://www.cdc.gov/aging/publications/features/lonely-older-adults.html Now matter how hard you try to fill the void of others with self love, it will inevitably have a negative impact on well-being.

But these are self fulfilling. A guy making a shit ton of money is gonna have a woman who makes him happy. also plenty of rich men are esentially just beta bucks who cant actually get a woman into tem and to be honest it makes them miserable. You contradicted yourself. It's not necessarily self fulfilling. As you mentioned, you can be poor and have a loving relationship and be happy or you can be rich and just be a miserable betabux. The difference in happiness is determined by whether you're wi…

The research I cited is arguing a different point then you are. Simply being in a marriage doesn't mean that you have a close and intimate relationship. There are a plenty of marriages that are unhappy and lack intimacy. It's whether or not you have mutual love and affection that makes a difference in well-being

This isn't controlling for the quality of the marriage / relationship. The core point of the research I cited was that they have to be close INTIMATE relationships, which a lot of marriages aren't (deadbedrooms are too common). It's not about simply having people around, it's having people who mutually care and love each other thats important

Is the devoted partner WHY he is successful or is it just what happens most often if you are a the kind of guy who's happy and successful? They compared low income & less successful men with loving relationships against successful men without loving relationships and found the former to be happier. It's not a chicken & egg situation since you can lack everything but love and still be happy but the reverse isn't true

Close Relationships and Happiness Across Cultures Here's a study that analyzes BOTH women and men. At the end of page 7, it concludes that overall relationships (both platonic and romantic) determine the happiness of men slightly more than women (accounted for 22% variance in men, 16% variance in women). Whereas romantic relationship quality uniquely predicted happiness for women more than it did for men.
