If she’s that abusive or neglectful, your priority is to address that now and get more custodial time, limit hers, maybe require supervised time. Depends on the level of abuse. It doesn’t make sense to avoid it now, then rely on your girlfriend to bring it up later in some contested guardianship. The court will wonder why didn’t you bring it up if its that concerning. If it wasn’t a basis to give you custody while alive, why would it be enough to give a girlfriend custody when you’re dead? Unles…

I like that you’re looking out for your kids. They need you and you need them, and they should be the priority. You can have her keep the house and postpone sale for years to get your equity if she can’t refinance to pay it off. You don’t have to sell the house immediately. Her leaving is not at all a reflection of your worth, and you have no control over it. You’re the same good person you were before you met her. A lot of spouses just up and leave, for reasons they can’t even articulate, and that pattern may continue with the next person they’re with. The better question then may be what’s wrong with her?
