And what if they are outnumbered and outgunned, and thus facing essentially unwinnable odds? What if these men are of physical and / or mental disposition that makes them ill equipped for combat? Lastly, why should these men have to fight a war that they didn't start and had no say in? Someone else makes a mess, and they have to clean it up? They have every right to GTFO and seek a safer place.

Why would you want to reduce population WITHOUT affecting population growth? If you only reduce population without reducing growth, you'll be back to this same situation in a short period of time, and you'll end up having to kill more kangaroos in the future.

Or ... how about "no" to both forms of slavery. If people won't volunteer to fight your war, and people won't have enough children to maintain the population then something has seriously gone off the rails. Maybe addressing the root causes for the lack of public support would be better than going all totalitarian. Forcing men to fight and die, and forcing anyone to reproduce is beyond vile. I would label the former as murder and the latter as rape.

Need for slaves means you lost the war, not that you get the slaves. Agreed. Not enough public support to supply your war with soldiers = YOU LOSE

I'm not sure that this is true. I'm fairly sure that prior to modern medicine, women had shorter life expectancy due to maternal mortality. With this major mortality factor removed, women now live longer on average. Other gender-neutral advancements have helped everyone live much longer.

I don't know what your question is asking but personally I don't really have a problem with condoms. The OP also gets downvoted into the shitter for saying that he is ok with using condoms. "I don't want to get a vasectomy, but I'm ok with using condoms" seems pretty fucking reasonable to me.

I VERY pro-vasectomy and will encourage any heterosexual male who does not want to have children to get one. I've had one and it has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. That said, "his body, his choice" 100%. If he doesn't want one, no one has the right to give him shit about what he does with his body. "My body, my choice" doesn't just apply to women's right to choose abortion or having the baby.

and reproduce They would have to tread lightly, as homosexuals cannot reproduce in such a way that both partners are biological parents. Such legislation could be difficult to pass as it would be seen as discriminatory against a legally protected class. It would would also be discriminatory against those who are medically infertile/sub-fertile and those with hereditary illnesses that they do not wish to pass on. In order to pressure people into having children that they wouldn't otherwise have, …

On top of the lack of post-conception options, men's contraceptive options are a little lacking: abstinence. We know abstinence education is a failure. Also, you will get shamed into oblivion if you suggest that women should remain abstinent condoms. These are more like a bandaid in that they are really only a short lerm solution. Their failure rate is simply too high for long term (think many years or decades) use. They also are more failure prone for inexperienced / young users and those who h…

I think that paternity tests should be REQUIRED in order to put a father's name on a birth certificate, assess child support, etc. No paternity test = no official or societal recognition of the child's parentage. The cost argument is dubious. As tests become more and more routine, the cost of this test will decrease. Also, it such a miniscule cost in comparison to the costs of raising a child. The privacy argument is invalid. When you are legally declaring something (i.e. declaring the father on…

If someone (man or woman) asks for an open relationship, it means they already have someone lined up. Since women can almost always get sex easier than men, they will benefit the most from such an arrangement while men may see little benefit.

Could it be that they are choosing a path that doesn't require college? Skilled trades and manufacturing perhaps? You know, the people that actually build and maintain shit needed to make our society run. This "everyone must go to college" combined with education costs rising faster than inflation wreaks of propaganda meant to enrich the colleges and enslave people under massive debt. A man who chooses a skilled trade over going to college and amassing tens of thousands in debt isn't failing.

Perhaps the answer to men’s problem might be more actively sought if it were seen to a women’s problem. If the “victims” of male in/fertility were declared to be women, the world might promptly pull out its finger. Are women the victims of male infertility in the same way that "women are the primary victims of war?"

long term relationship ( yes with kids involved too ) then feel free, but I'm never getting married when you sign over yourself to a woman you give them too much political and legal ammunition Having children also signs over a boatload of power to the woman. I'm not sure if marriage or having children has a bigger impact in this regard, but if the transfer of power by getting married is enough to put you off, then I'd at least think twice about having kids.

I tend to agree with this. The law says that I get zero say in what happens after conception. If she want to get an abortion, she can get one even if I want to keep the child (and even if we are married). If she wants to keep the child, she can despite my wishes AND get money from me for her choice. I stay out of the pro-choice / pro-life debate and do not offer an opinion when asked. I literally have no position because the law says that it does not effect me either way.

Yes, but this procedure was unnecessary. There is a risk any time you are put under with an anesthetic. I would assume that this risk is even higher in infants, children, and elderly than it is with able-bodied adults. IOW: surgeries that require anesthetic shouldn't be done unless necessary or unless the patient is a consenting adult that understands the risk.

I'm of the opinion that we tend to overpunish minor crimes and underpunish major crimes. Another discrepancy besides length of sentences that needs to be looked at: prison conditions.

The question is two-fold: would a homeless woman have been beaten the same way? Why is homelessness such a disproportionately male problem? Society spends resources to make sure women aren't on the streets, but men are up a creek.

Child support needs to be in line with the actual costs of raising a child, not arbitrarily scaled up because you happen to make more money. The government should not be telling people how much to spend on their children, so long as those parents are providing a basic level of care. They don't do it to intact families, unless there is some type of neglect or abuse going on. Yet if you are a non-custodial parent, the government dictates how much you spend, even when that is more than the statisti…

Automatic paternity tests is the way forward. If it's automatic, men don't have to be labeled "assholes" for wanting one since it will just happen.

Agreed. This is the new form of debtors' prison. Imprisoning men for their inability to pay over-inflated and ever-increasing (10% interest!) debts is deplorable and should constitute a human rights violation.

I actually have had a vasectomy, with zero intention of reversing it. This was a great solution for myself, but this isn't good advice for: men who definitely want kids some day or men who are too young to get one. It's notoriously difficult to get one if you aren't at least in your mid-20s, and I had to do a lot of dr. shopping before it happened for me. That's a lot of time for things to go wrong, a lot of time to ruin your life. They also say that you shouldn't get one if you are a fence sitt…

Given men's shitty options for contraception, I'd say that unwanted children is a very real risk for men. We have shitty pre-conception options AND zero post-conception options. This should make any man think twice. Though there is a lot of social pressure to marry, marriage is completely voluntary. However, many men are cornered into it due to an unwanted pregnancy and might choose marriage over child support payments (yes, this happens).

Expensive is relative. It's a bargain when compared to child support, divorce, or blowing big wads of cash to attract/keep a woman. And that's just the money aspect. Time also has value. There's no valid reason to ban development of this. This needed to be repeated.

So...could he file a civil lawsuit against her for pain and suffering? He would still have to pay CS, but would be collecting damages from the mother to help absorb this. The money would be going in a big circle (with lawyers and the government getting their dirty hands on it). Barring that, go to the news with this and make a huge public stink. Then set up a gofundme (or similar) to help him pay. If all that fails, he needs to pack it up and move to a distant corner of the globe.

Nature compensates somewhat by making males more likely to be born 1.06:1 Hmm...I always assumed it was because the Y chromosome is smaller (lighter) than the X chromosome, thus Y-sperm are able to travel faster and have a higher probability of fertilizing the egg. I know sperm aren't a "gas," but diffusion rates of gases are based on mass as described by Graham's law.

While I'm not convinced that the 5-year gap is completely due to biological factors, I believe that some/most of it is; men on average are larger and consume more calories than women, and several studies (search for calorie restriction and longevity or aging) cite a correlation between caloric consumption and longevity even when healthy weights are maintained. All factors equal, a smaller person will consume fewer calories to maintain a given body composition. Fewer calories correlates to longer…

She should face prison time for attempted murder (victim DID survive, as best as I can tell from the article) and lifetime ban on owning any animals, after a lengthy prison sentence of course. That, and lawsuit for every last dime she has and will ever see again in her life. Anything less is unacceptable.

By your wording "raising the child," I would assume the child support is for just 1 child. 30% is budget-wrecking, and considering that he is in an oilfield this is probably a ton of money. You are penalized for making a lot of money if you have to pay child support. If he decides that work is too difficult, too dangerous, too stressful, or he just doesn't like it, I doubt he can take a paycut and switch jobs to ease his situation. CS needs to be based on reasonable costs to raise a child, not s…

I do not believe that anyone should be drafted. If there is a real SHTF situation, I wouldn't expect there to be a shortage of volunteers. If people aren't volunteering to fight your war, then it isn't worth fighting and you've already lost. Conscription = slavery.

We can't simultaneously say "lolz sorry ladies we're just naturally stronger, more durable, and Army material" while then denying the responsibility to use that strength in the preservation of society. Except that not all men have the aggression, training, or physical attributes to be effective in combat. It's complete bullshit.

So being born with a penis means that you should be turned away and left to die? Some men are ok with fighting, but not all of us are meant for it. Isn't saying that "men should fight, because they're men" a dangerous gender stereotype? Not all men are aggressive, trained, or otherwise fit for combat. Oh, and the article comments are disgusting.

Conscription is slavery. If a nation cannot get enough people to fight in their war without resorting to slavery, that is a statement from the populous that they do not support the war. That the conscription is specifically for men only is just another indignity, rubbing your nose in the slavery that they are imposing on you.

It's a free-for-all, where you never know whether your marriage (or lack thereof) will be a bar to housing, employment, access to public services, and so on. How so? If no one is married in the "legal" sense, then your marriage or lack of marriage is irrelevant; everyone else is in the exact same boat. International travel could be another story. The article is only tangentally about gay marriage; it's really about marriage equality. Allowing homosexuals to marry, the same as heterosexuals, is one form of equality. However, going completely the other direction and getting the government out of marriage altogether is also equality. I FAR prefer the latter form of equality because this also makes single people equal to people who happen to be in long-term "permanent" relationships.

Hmm...the most interesting case I see is with Social Security vs annuities. Social Security pays the same regardless of gender, and thus women benefit more because female life expectancy is about 5 years longer than male life expectancy in the U.S. In this regard, SS is a wealth transfer from men to women. This is most pronounced in when looking at the difference between black men and white women: "Some of these proposals would have us raise the Social Security eligibility age beyond the life ex…
