Don't forget sage counsel in the summary/conclusion: "Men need to address skills deficits to meet healthier relationship expectations."

Same thing happened to me for just COMMENTING NEUTRALLY on a comment in r/MensRights. Welcome to the age of mass-censorship.

OP, how did you decide to handle this?

Yup. Boston, MA; New Haven, CT; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; & Bellingham, WA.

I disagree. I've been present in several gyms where people complained of others using exercise machines right next to them. Without exception, gym staff reprimanded the complainers, pointing out other paying members are entitled to use any available machines. If the rule is going to be "don't use machines right next to others if there are other machines available," then the rule should be applied universally.

Look at how popular the post is. A major problem is that, whatever the kind, there are lots of people who support bigotry. Add in institutional support for bigotry and it becomes socially acceptable. Humans.

It's very alarming that today some bigotries are encouraged and some even enforced by law. If you point this out, you're branded, ironically, a bigot. Bigotry across the board hurts people. None should be enforced by the state. I agree with you--it's beyond disheartening.

I hear ya. And I agree--race based bigotry, regardless who's perpetuating it, is wrong. But for a long time I've maintained that race-bigotry is different from gender-bigotry b/c people are a lot more likely to have others of a different gender in their families than they are to have people of different races in their families. Where family is crucial and shares resources, it's natural to find both genders reaping the benefits.

I've been respectful in my discussion with you. Please don't be presumptuous in assuming what others understand OR that you are the arbiter of what's "scary."

It's certainly your right to have an opinion of yourself as "having too much of a brain." And I appreciate you're sharing what seems fair to you. Thankfully, others disagree with the growing censorship movement.

r/offmychest is NOT r/MensRights. There is no hosting of the conversation in this thread in that community. That community is entitled to censor what happens in its own space. It is an abuse of questionable censorship privilege to monitor people's comings and goings in other LEGAL Reddit communities and then censor people based on broad, presumptive evaluations of those communities. It's disingenuous to claim that people's interests in other communities "foments discord" in a given community--es…

I don't see that your comment pertains to what I typed. I didn't argue that "private communities" are "obligated to host speech they disagree with." I argued, in the spirit of some of the discussion in this thread, that censoring otherwise perfectly legal and polite expression of (unpopular) opinions alienates potential allies. John Stuart Mill wrote that a healthy community ought to consider opinions it disagrees with for many reasons. Banning people for merely reading or commenting in this com…

I just logged in to Reddit & saw this r/MensRights thread in my feed (after the big SCOTUS ruling). I made a SINGLE comment here--sharing what I felt a quote in one of the discussions meant. No breaking the law, no threatening anyone. Immediately, I got this message in my inbox: "[–]subreddit message via /r/offmychest*[M] sent 13 minutes ago*You have been permanently banned from participating in r/offmychest*. I think the quote above includes "or" in the Boolean sense. "Counsel or... help." Even if it said only "help," the quote could indicate that the person now seeking help is only doing so because they're desperate. Like the neighbor whose friends all canceled on moving day so the neighbor begrudgingly asks you for help--all the while acting like they're doing you a favor just by temporarily associating with you.

Exactly. If a "Men's Rights" community sees no bias in the responses to what happened, then, no, these kinds of bigotries aren't going to end in our lifetimes. Also notice the way guys treat each other even for just having a different opinion.

Exactly. Thanks for pointing it out.

Again, you're expressing your opinion, not a fact. And the irony of "this is not an echo chamber" is noteworthy.

Totally agree.

I disagree. I think if the victim had been a woman and the assailants men, commenters would have expressed an expectation that other employees intervene on the victim's behalf. And the tone of the comments would have been, overall, less jocular. But from the comments (What does this have to do with men's rights?) throughout this section, I realize I have a different perspective on the matter as a reflection of social bias than many commenters here. Cheers.

If this is a "men's rights" community but people here don't sense the apathy or gender-bias of expectations in many of the comments (whether others should assist someone being stabbed--someone who didn't "even need stitches"...), or the frequent LOL's about another person being stabbed multiple times--supposedly there's less cause for concern because he was "thick," then I apologize for the post. Our understanding of how society's perspectives of and responses to situations based on the gender o…
