I want somebody to “play mom” to my tween and for me to “play dad” to their kid. I want them to love and care for each other and with the age difference, it just falls into that place, parent/child relationship. I don’t want them to shake hands and ignore one another.

Look up avoidant personality type and see if that fits. Often people that have that really do want to be in a relationship, they try their hardest, they mask to be exactly what you want, might even love bombing for a while, but eventually once they start to get too close to you, they panic. They freak out. They run away. They ghost They cheat. Meanwhile, they blame you for it all.

I do the same thing, assume I will never find someone to love as much as I did my ex, however, do you think that people can predict the future? If someone told you they can look into your future and tell you exactly what would happen, you would think they are crazy. So we can’t allow ourselves to do that with our own future either. We don’t know what’s going to happen, bad or good. 👍

…so women are to blame for all that is wrong with the world? 👀

I thank you for such a thorough answer. I def have chosen your option 1 - lonely, angry, bitter who has lost it all 🤦🏻‍♂️ and I think it’s time to very consciously try your option 2 now - to become self fulfilled and enjoy life again. Just so angry that the rest of my entire life, and my child’s, has been uprooted. I thought I had everything all planned out and I was happy with such. It is what it is though. There is no going back. I can’t change anything, correct. Time to move onward and upward…

I agree and I see where you are coming from. I changed in a whole myriad of ways as a person, for the better. My love and affection and intentionality towards my partner or my children never changed though. That’s what I meant.

What got you to a place of being happy by yourself and enjoying life as it is? I’m still struggling with that. Much better than I ever have been, but it’s still a weak point for me. Completely agree, I would never use a dating site, but if something happened to organically, I would be down.

That’s the damnedest thing, though, I never changed in the slightest. I had the same wants, needs and desires before and after marriage and I offered the same love, care and support that I always had, if not more.

Agreed, I now know that all to be true. I’m just a super open and honest person and very very naively assumed others were like me.

Same. I’m a fixer, I now know, and a bit of an optimist and a hopeless romantic and a people pleaser, and you bundle all those up and what ya get is someone easy to take advantage of. Thats not to say I won’t ever try again though. So this has literally been the worst year of my entire life so far, even though I’ve gone through shit in the past, but I will still put myself out there because it’s worth it. I’ll be more cautious next time, I’ll have actual boundaries set up unlike before, but I wa…

Disagree, I need intimacy and love, too, sex would be behind both of those in priorities for me. And I don’t think most women are crazy. I realize the sub I’m in, and def some woman absolutely are, but not most.

It’s been a year and I haven’t dated yet for the same reasons. Too tired, still figuring life out as a single guy and a part time single dad. No energy for others ATM, as it all goes to me and my kid. One day though

I think a lot of women have just been hurt by guys so somebody experiencing pain or difficulty with a man is instantly related to. They use their own situation to explain everybody else’s. Like, this dude hurt me therefore, all dudes must be bad. My husband cheated, therefore all husbands must be cheaters

Wanting a wife that helps isn’t a weird request, though obviously a partnership does need to be give and take. OP needs to be helping her just as much as she helps him.

I’m sorry to hear that. You may not be sure how, but you have made it this far, so you must be doing something right. Good luck to you.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
