One subreddit does not represent feminism. However, I think most of us can agree that this is the typical argument of many feminists from multiple feminist spaces, spanning across all platforms. It is a very common argument that feminists use to downplay male victims. So it is not just one subreddit, it is many. Is it the mainstream? That’s debatable. Wow what a concept, people don’t like to be burdened with no upsides. I reject the idea that anyone should be forced into a role, I think that people should choose what roles they want to play in society. I was well aware of the hypocrisy of feminism since I was twelve. I had a teacher who preached so hard about gender equality, yet after recess, she made it a point to allow the girls into the classroom before us because “ladies first”. That incident made me feel disillusioned by feminism, and since then, I started seeing more and more hypocritical beliefs from feminists. At heart, we still believe that equality is the answer, and unfortunately, the traditional right is not it either. We are still leftists, just disillusioned. For some, disillusionment with the left is enough to vote right. They do not. The right are indifferent and they push the patriarchy, which benefits men at the expense of women. Men suffer from the patriarchy, too, of course, but the right simply don’t care. Anytime I argue something is misandrist, I always point out that saying the same about Black people is racist. Some feminists will try to claim that men are not oppressed so it’s okay. ALL forms of bigotry is wrong, no matter who commits it or is a victim of it. And that includes misandry.
