I want you to think about that. Notice how you have to include a ton of apologia to question it, and you still get downvoted, and you're the only one making any sense. The only thing that is clear from this video is that a man assaulted a woman without the slightest pretense of self-defense. It all looks fake to me but I just hope this makes you question being in a subreddit where everyone salivates over images of violence against women.

It's not crazy. It's simple biology. I mean, it's a person who feels one way some times and another way other times. I think we're all familiar with that, right? I don't understand this gigantic confusion around gender identity. It's just some people falling outside of the common binary we are used to. One of the least meaningful things I can think of and yet people like you contribute to this notion that it's extraordinary or false or absurd. I have hazel eyes. Wow what a world.

People who are gender fluid do not make a conscious choice to change genders. That's the whole thing; sometimes they're one way, sometimes another. I'm sure it does happen from moment to moment but it's not like going out to eat, it's not a deliberate choice.
/r/PussyPassDenied23/11/15 09:28 PM

That is not correct. What that man did was not self defense, which is using the absolute least force that you possibly can in order to defend yourself or extract yourself from a situation. This was a retaliation. That's why the author is saying that violence against women is not OK: it has nothing to do with a culture of treachery ("they had it coming") and everything to do with a culture of liberty (mininum force necessary to defend onesself). No one is giving anyone a pass. What they guy did w…

We're not opponents. Is that really how you see a simple conversation? Makes sense that you would call straightforward English gibberish if you think we're opponents. Maybe you should rethink how you view the world. I'll try one more time. Men->soldiers != women->nurses. Men are not made to be soldiers by women. It's not gender-based oppression. Women ARE made to be nurses by men. It's gender-based oppression. I hope you understand this, even if you don't agree.
/r/MensRights08/09/15 04:26 AM
-2

That's not what I mean. Please see my other response to understand. What I'm saying is, you cannot compare men preventing women from being nurses to men dying as soldiers. One is men keeping women out deliberately; the other is people using power. It would be the same if women had signed conscription laws preventing men from staying home.

I just don't see that as entitlement. They are stating that those are things they use to deal with their periods. I did not get the impression that they were claiming those things absolutely needed to be given to them.
/r/MensRights08/09/15 02:31 AM

I agree with you and that's kind of my point. It's not about gender. But with women, it has always been about gender. They have been prevented from entering male domains by men because they're women, while men have not experienced anything like this. The men who oppress 99% of men cannot possibly do so out of gender superiority and never have.
/r/MensRights08/09/15 02:19 AM

How is calling those things period related an act of entitlement? Just because your girlfriend doesn't need them? Seems a bit subjective to me.
/r/MensRights07/09/15 08:02 PM

This is partially true. I don't think feminists would hesitate to agree with you one bit about roles, since they have always argued that gender roles in general are harmful, not just women's. But if you look at who was making all of these decisions, it's always men. It's not like women were able to exclude themselves from military service by writing laws forcing men to do it. Men have historically been in charge of laws and held exclusive power with the ability to keep women out of certain profe…

Right, so why make fun of people who have triggers or are trans or who have been sexually assaulted? I know very little about the so-called SJW people on tumbler but I can notice at least one major thing: we're talking about going way beyond silly reactions to otherkin teenagers. There isn't really a SJW "culture" that I can detect except for people who talk about triggers, being trans, and survivors of sexual violence. Here's my question to you then: how is it any different to mock so-called SJ…

Once I understand that men can be victims of what? I don't deny that men are victims of all kinds of things: the biggest ones being religion and capitalism, in my view. Just because I believe that so-called MRAs are deluded doesn't mean I don't understand the issues; I was actually trying really hard to be more civil than I've been in this reddit. You have not pointed out... I shouldn't need to. A dictatorship is society-wide. Rape is between individuals. The only way it works is to extend the analogy to rape culture and dictatorial thinking, but then OP's point is completely negated. No one is responsible... This only holds when actions do not derive from some form of consent, however obtained. There was no way I could defend myself against her like I would a man, if I had I would still be in jail for hitting a poor defenseless female. That's because self-defense is defined in most states (and conceptually) as using the minimum force necessary to prevent harm to yourself. When your wife would attack you, I'm guessing you managed to avoid using violence reciprocally based on what you said...how unsafe did you feel?

It is absolutely essential for medical personnel to be able to accurately assess these kinds of situations and at least call in an expert on abuse. The facts of prevalence ought to be irrelevant; at the very least someone needed to assess whether or not he was lying about his injuries. Leaving a situation like this unexamined is criminal.

No, I did not imply that. What I originally said was that there is a difference between violence and abuse. This is obvious. Now, that's not a defense of violence or anything, and as I pointed out violence can be people play fighting or fun wrestling--and those clearly are not examples of abuse. Abuse is a very specific type of intimate relationship violence that has to do with power and control. This is not limited to men, although I think it's fairly obvious that the majority of abuse is perpe…

Ah, that's right, it's different when women do it. That's not what I'm saying at all, even though that can be true. The key thing to understand about abuse is that it's about how the victim feels and what the effects are. First of all, there are some female abusers, primarily lesbians. I wouldn't argue their violence isn't abuse. We have to make the distinction and we have to understand the problem if we are to solve it.

it IS due to anger management problems, poor conflict resolution skills, insecurity within relationships, personality disorders (often of both partners), alcoholism/drug abuse, inadequate coping mechanisms for external stressors, and a desire for control (both with men and women) over relationships and partners The only one that is true is the last one. This is a terrible article. It confuses anger and abuse and the services that are provided to deal with abuse specifically, rather than anger. Anger management is not appropriate for abusers, so you can immediately tell this woman has no idea what she's talking about. What's interesting is that the comic seems to inadvertently point out that both of those issues come from the same place. So you can sit around and pretend that there's no problem or you can acknowledge that we live in a world where women's bodies are very tightly policed. This comic very neatly illustrates a single source, no matter how much its author might ignore it.

Always good to find out who's downvoting opinions they don't share. Usually hard to tell but now it's kind of obvious. And I didn't say stateless capitalism is libertarian socialism; libertarian socialism is anti-capitalist because it's based around freedom. 'Anarcho'-capitalism is a misnomer.

Milton Friedman was a moron, so I'm not surprised you'd find actual freedom to be nonsense. Don't assume that I'm talking about state-capitalist stupidity, like we currently have...it's actually better than the pure tyranny of actual capitalism.

Free markets and capitalism are incompatible. A free market is a socialist-anarchist proposition. Getting paid a slave wage is degrading enough without having to pretend that everyone's circumstances are identical and need to be treated as such. The only solution for freedom is the abolition of capitalism and then government.

Which is a problem with capitalism. If we replace the distribution of resources with the principle of "from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs," we can imagine an equitable outcome. There would be no need to complain about equal pay for equal work.

I game a lot now that Wolfenstein ET has been liberated. But that's irrelevant. I know that what you said is true, it's just that it doesn't speak to my comment. When women complain about how they're treated while gaming it's about the bullshit that men pull specifically related to being a woman, not general nonsense. Think about it, it's two separate issues. The first is being treated differently as a woman and being hounded when revealing who they are. The second would be a complaint about general assholish behavior that is unrelated to sex or gender, which anyone could dislike about online gaming.

That's a terrible way of looking at cause and effect. The simplest way to deal with any kind of problem is to investigate the root cause, determine the legitimacy of the complaint, and redress the grievances. This is how one ought to prioritize and discover their so-called pet causes. Let's take the issue of Islamic terrorism as an example. Some of it can be attributed to Western terrorism itself, so that's something we can change: we can stop being terrorists ourselves. Then there's irrational …

The reason you didn't get "blame men" from the article is because it simply wasn't there. The thing to remember about how people study crime is that there is a good way to do it and a bad way. The good way is to look beyond the crime for the root causes so that, if we are serious about solving crime, we may prevent it in the future. The bad way is to look at the crime in isolation and punish the criminal. The best analogy I can think of is when we look at world affairs. People who see terrorism …

Lesbianism and monogamy are not "parts of the feminist narrative." Lesbians are just women who are attracted to other women and monogamy is the choice to have only one partner at a time. Neither of those things has anything to do with the idea that men and women are equal.

This is a constant concern of mine in this subreddit. All of the things you mentioned are rooted in male privilege. Men controlled (and to a great extent still control) the legal, political, social, and economic frameworks that yielded the results we are unhappy about. That's why the proper response is to look in the mirror at what we've done and try to rectify it by supporting feminism. Let's take work as an example. It's inarguable that men determined what kind of work would be done by whom. Women were not allowed to attend universities or get th…

It's not a conspiracy. And yes, all of the things you described are from gender roles codified into law by men and enforced historically through the courts, the threat of force, and socialization. It is unfair to treat this history as irrelevant and dismiss it. We must undo what we have done if we hope to liberate ourselves from the oppressive restrictions you mentioned.

Feminism is the cure for this kind of bullshit, that's how it's related. The attitude that men are stoic unemotional detached fathers while women are the caring nurturing mothers is a relic of male privilege and patriarchy. Feminists seek to abolish this kind of role policing.

I don't think you and others are reading my comment correctly. What I'm curious about is how often there was an actual rape that the victim initially reports and then recants due to some circumstance, like being in a relationship with the rapist or fear of retaliation.

We need to be careful in evaluating female claims of violence. Yes, obviously. Also 40% of abuse being female on male I do not believe this to be remotely true. Even the flawed studies people keep linking me to here don't support that claim.

Let's not forget how they try to claim domestic abuse of men is "rare" and (I've heard this multiple times said by feminists coming here) that they consider it "statistically insignificant" I assume you're referring to me, because I said those things and they're accurate--although it might not be statistically insignificant and I may have to take that back. But it's absurd to say that feminists are opposed to awareness of violence against men. When a feminist points out that we need to be carefu…

It's a little strong, no doubt, but abusers terrorize their families. It's not the same as firebombing a village or something but it's terror nonetheless.

So with absolutely zero evidence to support anything, you dismiss claims of violence as being so prevalent that they must be mocked? Forgive me if I'm reading your comment wrong but it sounded dismissive. We know nothing about the facts of this situation except that a man gave away money that he may or may not have had a right to give away and his wife claims that he was violent to her and her children. Looking a little more closely, we can wonder why he wouldn't attempt to take care of his chil…

I cannot think of a better example of an arbitrary distinction than the one you mentioned. You are right and wrong at the same time. No downvote from me, but I'll provide you with an explanation because it's how conversation works. You are absolutely right that the victories you mentioned have become reactive by trying to defend those small gains, it doesn't follow that the center has moved left. The right wing assault on freedom has pushed farther to the right in order to strip away those gains. Also, state expansion is not rooted in a particular ideology, unless you count power as a…

We are not miscommunicating, unfortunately. In every properly done study I've seen, the overwhelming majority of cases of abuse are perpetrated by men. I'm sure some hetero men are abused by their female partners but I would be shocked if it is higher than 2% of all cases. You have to remember that one of the things abusers claim is that they are being abused themselves. It's part of the mentality. But the absolute best way to measure and understand actual abuse is by studying its effects, and t…

Couldn't you make the same argument for male on female violence? Absolutely, I said "not all violence is abuse." When a woman hits her SO it's funny. I don't think so.

The reason that domestic violence policy doesn't address female on male violence is because not all violence is abuse, which is a cyclical pattern of behavior that has to do with power and control in a relationship. It's the same reason bar fights aren't abuse.

Some men are abused by women and they need society's help. But it's a tiny portion of men compared to women who are abused by men. That's just a fact of life that needs to change. I would NEVER say abandon anyone who is a victim of abuse. I'm here to try to help clear up confusion and change minds, just like people did for me when I was a misogynist and male privilege advocate. I'm tired of getting called a troll.

I'm sure some tiny portion of straight men are abused but it's statistically insignificant. The only studies I've seen otherwise have deeply flawed methodologies, like the 2006 family violence study that people here love to link me to. It's a lie. Another problem I have is that I see practically no empathy for abused women coming from those who proclaim that straight men are commonly abused. I think straight men who are abused would have natural empathy for women in the same situation; instead, …

If by high risk you mean statistically insignificant risk then you're right. Don't try to pin your anti-equality misogynistic abuse apologetics on feminists. By spreading these lies you are aiding abusive men in their endeavors by providing cover and justification for their excuses.

People, men and women, should be able to return to exactly where they "left off" if they take the time to raise children. Raising children is a part of the human biological experience for many people and shouldn't be an obstacle to one's professional advancement. I think it sucks that you consider this some kind of privilege as opposed to a fundamental human right.

Gay men are men too, of course, and deserve the same protection & rights as straight men. I hope a lot of the people here take this to heart, because unlike straight men, gay men actually are at high risk for relationship violence and abuse.

Some of the lies, exaggerations, and obfuscations of MPAs: domestic violence is perpetrated by women just as often as men false rape accusations are common it's feminists' fault that men are at a disadvantage in custody disputes, divorces, alimony, etc. feminism is about women wanting to be in control of everything female privilege is real men are oppressed as a gender I'm just pulling these from comments here, so it shouldn't be controversial (but it should be embarrassing).

I'm going to try softening my rhetoric some because I'm just having one of those days and, well, maybe you know how that is. It is undeniable that women have been placed on a pedestal and I think we both agree that that's wrong. But that's not what I'm trying to point out. What I'm saying is that it is the result of gender roles created by men and enforced through socio-cultural power. Women are not immune from adopting these roles, especially when it benefits them. But it's crucial to understan…

As I noted, and is obvious from the article and an elementary understanding of history, those problems are in fact from male privilege. It takes a good deal of effort not to notice that fact. The woman is lamenting her internalized male privilege and wishing to get rid of it.
/r/MensRights23/03/11 04:34 PM

Her 'insanity' stems from patriarchy, not feminism (which is not what your comment implies). The relevant part that you didn't quote explains how she has internalized male privilege and would much rather not have the vestiges of that mindset still rattling around in her brain to conflict with feminism. That's the whole theme of this piece.

Here's my take on that. First off, I'm appalled by it. Considering the stigma, loss of rights, and negative consequences that stem from such a thing, it's pretty disgusting. I don't think there's any justification for applauding a false rape accusation in and of itself. That said, the context that the link did not provide is much more interesting. The idea of a victim having the recourse to reach out for something terrible that's happened, that might not be narrowly defined as rape, is essential…

I'm a feminist and I suspect that there is considerable subjectivity in your claim. Why don't you provide some examples of feminists stating that a false rape claim is good and we can go from there.
/r/MensRights18/03/11 05:08 PM

Yes, exactly. His DNA was in her because they had presumably consensual sex and that's what rape kits look for. She got caught by the science of the system that's meant to help actual victims and that makes me feel good.
/r/MensRights18/03/11 09:50 AM

Not sure what you mean exactly but of course there was a genetic match: she had just had sex with a guy. Once she lied about being raped, they clearly did a rape kit and scraped for semen residue, which matched her random hookup. Therefore, this random guy was arrested, even though she didn't name him.

I cannot imagine a feminist claiming that there is anything to be gained from a false rape accusation. As you said, it completely undermines the seriousness of the plague and drives more and more people to believe that rape isn't the pervasive terror that it is. But we have to keep in mind that it is wholly unfair to judge anyone by the actions of others. Each case must be evaluated independently and the facts must be judged as best they can be. We don't want to end up with an even more stringen…

The analogy is reversed: feminism is the same as the civil rights movement and "men's rights" is the terrorist power structure lying about the problems and blaming minorities for their lot in life.

This is why men should be looking in the mirror. It's ridiculous to pretend that having only men register for SS is anything but men's idea. Being opposed to this kind of nonsense is feminism, not "men's rights."
