It licenses the demonisation of men and masculinity, increases the already high levels of antagonism between men and women, infantilises women and either has or is threatening one of the basic principles of the criminal justice system, namely, the presumption of innocence.

So far, thank goodness, not very much. But it’s early days yet!

I discuss some of the issues you raise in my chapters on rape, in particular, in the context of false or ungrounded accusations. Such accusations are obviously not good for those who are falsely accused, though, in the current climate, they are not in recept of much sympathy; they are also, however, unhelpful in adding to a climate of scepticism about accusations may well be well-grounded. As I make clear in my introduction, my criticisms of feminism are not to be taken to be criticisms of women…

That reads like something I might have said.

My book is just out so I haven't received any backlash - so far! I'm hoping, perhaps the hope is in vain, that people will respond to what I have to say critically but politely, but we shall see what happens.

It's hard to tell. I'm inclined to believe that the movement has peaked but the recent Weinstein verdict has resuscitated it to a certain extent and brought it back to prominence. However, the damage the #MeToo movement has done to male/female relations will persist long after the initial perturbations have died down; that's why it's necessary for people, not just me, to critically evaluate the movement.

I have a section in the book where I discuss women as harassers, including, I believe, the person to whom you refer at the beginning of your question. For legal reasons, I don't wish to comment on the case but it certainly raises some interesting questions! On the other hand, I'm not familiar with the actress who allegedly #MeToo'd her boyfriend, so I can't comment on that at all, for any reason!

The last two chapters of my book deal with the very sensitive and contentious topic of rape. During the twentieth century, ideas of what rape consisted in began to change so that it went from being primarily a crime of force or violence to being a violation of the victim’s autonomy. It might still involve physical violence but it also might not, nor did it necessarily have to. On this altered conception of rape, for example, a woman who had sex with a man whom she believed to be her husband but …

Yes, to a limited extent. The casting couch, of which Harvey Weinstein’s alleged propositions would appear to be latter-day variations, is a cliché of Hollywood culture. Why, if invited to a meeting, at his hotel, couldn't the apparently helpless young ladies bring their agents with them? This wasn't the 1940s or even the 1960s. By the 1980s and 1990s, sexual harassment claims had already become common. Such claims put huge power into women’s hands. Weinstein could have been brought down at any …

Over here in the UK it is completely unheard of to be circumcised- it's looked upon as kind of a terrible archaic tradition

You should give them a copy of After Me Too. It explains the idiocy of the MeToo movement and the mistreatment of men in such a smart way that it's undeniable. https://www.imprint.co.uk/product/metoo/
