I just went through this exact situation myself, but from my understanding the process varies a bit by state. I’m in Utah, and for me it went like this: Ex found the portal on utah.gov that generates the forms for the “initiant” filing, filled out all the details on division of assets (like you, we had no kids or property, so dividing our shared savings account was the only major thing, luckily). She signed these documents and handed the computer over to me. I signed the same documents — we had …

Shit… I forgot about the comments, thank you for the reminder. But yes, in answer to your question OP, I did clean it out (although apparently not as thoroughly as I’d have liked to). Instagram has an “Archive” button you can use if you’re uncertain about completely erasing an entire portion of your life, but want it gone from your timeline. I’m assuming other sites have this too but I’ve honestly fallen off most social media over the past decade. I recommend you do it. Moving on is infinitely m…

Totally anecdotal, but I think it scales with how long you were together. 12 years is a long damn time, and I am deeply sorry you had to go through this. But be kind to yourself— the grooves in your brain created by that relationship will run deep, and it will take an understandably long time before they’re smoothed over. Someone told me there was a study done on grief after certain life events, and divorce ranked 2nd on the list— HIGHER than the death of a spouse. The only thing that topped it …

I know. I’m not deluding myself into thinking they’re perfect (especially not on fake ass social media), but seeing genuine affection between two people IRL, despite whatever they’re dealing with beyond that, really kicks off the lonely feelings sometimes. I’m not proud of it, I know it’s just a form of jealousy, but man… definitely still hurts in unexpected ways sometimes

Tbh I think I’m on the other side of the spectrum— I keep trying to establish a basic routine, but something keeps coming along eventually that knocks me out of orbit and makes me say “fuck it”, and I drop the whole thing. Hope we can both find a way to do both man, you stay strong too.

There’s a lot of assumptions going on in the comments here, but there’s no way for me to know if they’re true just from your post. Let me try and just answer your questions. I (M32) went through a similar timeline with my divorce, so hopefully this helps. Where do you guys start? Lawyer up. I didn’t need to in my divorce, but I believe your case may require it. You say you 10x’d your income (congrats btw, that will make this process easier) but if your ex is the vengeful type, that income will b…

Yup, just coming from a logical standpoint, your brain “stabilizes” starting around 25. People say it stops changing at that age, but that’s not entirely accurate — people’s brains can still change over time (as most people in this sub can attest to I’m guessing). But 25 appears to be around when those changes start slowing down and a firmer sense of self gets established. Obviously you do you OP, but your chances of actually enjoying being around this person will be greater at 25+ because your …

That’s because she keeps interrupting your healing process after the fact. I can’t pretend I know what’s legally possible here, but this sounds like far more than enough to justify a restraining order. But, end of the day, the most important thing is finding a way to make it completely impossible for her to reach you in any way. You have other options for achieving this outside of death, my friend. I promise you it is worth using them instead.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
