...and do not get attached to anyone. Get comfortable with who you are alone first.

Keep moving and do anything you can to take your mind off of your situation. Working in a food pantry literally turned my life around after my divorce. Get help. Seriously. Try individual and group therapy.

Ditto on the best friend thing. Divorce is about money and she is now your advesary

I was blessed with that advice by a good friend. Fix yourself. If she doesn't come back at least you've moved forward in life.

It will rock your world my friend. Reach out via chat if you need to. I'm coming out of the other end of this tunnel. You'll make it

Going through a divorce after 35 years. After years and years of saying WTF? all of a sudden everything will make sense and there will be no going back. Get help. I suggest a therapist that offers EMDR. At the end of the day, there is nothing magical about her. You are the problem in that you've fooled yourself into believing she is the one and only for you. Fix. Yourself.

The lies are so exhausting. I would give anything for my stbx to just be direct and tell the truth on anything. She can't do it. It's all stonewalling and avoiding.

If she mentioned divorce you are done. She's been mulling this over in secret for a long time. She didn't tell you because she wanted to leave YOU not the other way around. Proceed with caution and don't look back. She is done with you.

Women who are divorced or divorcing seldom express their doubts and insecurities to other women. It's sort of a female "macho" thing. They may cry themselves to sleep every night but they will tell their gal pals they are living the dream.

Mine drug it out for over a year and then when it suited her demanded it all at once.

Very wise advice. Remember that women live in their emotions in the moment. Those good times where she and your family were so happy mean nothing when weighed against her emotions in the moment. I've always weighed the good times which were many against the bad times which were few and chose to stay despite the rough patches. She doesn't think like that. The overwhelming majority of women don't think like that.

You won't stay friends if she has her way. Was she friends with the ex that she dumped for you?
/r/Divorce_Men24/03/24 08:05 PM

You are assuming she turned it all "on" in the first place. As Chris Rock said " Men are loved under the condition that they provide something". Once you have been married long enough that 1/2 of the assets accumulated during the marriage hits her target number she will ditch you for another.

I think an interesting business might be firearms escrow where you give up access to them for a period of time while they are stored in a climate controlled environment where you don't have access to them. They could be stored in a space with two keys like a safe deposit box

I will never ever give another human being the ability to hurt me the way my ex wife of 29 years hurt me. Those spaces are forever closed. I will trade off being alone for the rest of my life for knowing no one will ever be able to do the damage that she did to me.

I found that she was never really the woman I loved. I dismissed and "papered over' the lies and inconsistencies. We couldn't have or keep couples friends because the person she was to my face wasn't the same person she was the rest of the time. This was explained to me after the split by a good friend who is the husband of a couple I wanted us to socialized with. Perhaps you will have the same epiphany when you realize the woman you probably still love despite all she put you through never exis…

Yep. At some level you will always love her as the mother of your son because you are a good man and you can't throw people away like garbage. Women don't love us the same way my friend. When that switch gets flipped you are and were always a piece of crap.

Get treatment for your depression immediately for the sake of your boys. Talk therapy helps, but, it works better when you are not frozen in panic because your neurochemicals have gone haywire. Second, the woman you love no longer exists. Her interests and yours have diverged and you will be shocked to find out how little she cares about yours even though you still feel protective over her and the boys. Third, find a "tribe" that have been where you are and LISTEN TO THEM. You are not the except…

This. First divorce my young wife had a longtime friend from high school that was divorced who convinced her she was missing out on life by being married in her 20s. After we split her friend remarried her husband. My then newly ex-wife was devastated. She knew it was too late for us to put things back together. Very sad.

/r/Divorce_Men22/02/24 08:10 AM

Don't take her back. Women cheat for a multitude of reasons that have nothing to do with sex. I took someone back, Married her and ended up divorced in less than two years. I could never feel or look at her the same after she chose someone else over me.

By the time a woman let's you know you are in trouble she's done with you. Most won't take the risk of telling you while they are going to the process because they are afraid you will leave them first and/or they will change their mind. I am on my second divorce after 34 years and it is just as true as it was on my first divorce when the marriage didn't even make it to two years.

I wish you all the best. I've been divorced twice. I jumped right into dating after the first one and remarried within three years. I'm in the middle of my second divorce. I had and have great respect for her contributions which is why I supported her. On the other hand, she is just now appreciating what it means to submit to the struggles and stress of the workplace just to survive. She will never know the incredible load it places on someone to provide for three or four other people who feel no gratitude whatsoever for your sacrifice.

God forbid they should be accountable for their behavior. Blaming poor personal decisions on "previous generations" is a cop out. Grow the f up.

She's done. She wants it to be on her terms so she will make up with you for now.
/r/Divorce_Men30/12/23 06:53 AM

Pack up and go. I learned this lesson the hard way. When she cheats she has lost all respect for you. If you find out about it and don't dump her she develops contempt for you.

For me at least I every day was new territory emotionally. Three months into the separation I felt very confident that I had moved on. It's now been three and a half years and I realize I am still not ready.

Oh...behave yourself before during and after separation. Don't muddy the waters with a brand new younger women before the divorce is final. Protect her dignity at all costs. Don't do anything to make her look bad even if she treats you like garbage.

The playbook is simple. Find the definition for marital assets and apply that to your situation. Those are to be distributed fairly which may not be equal. What needs to be negotiated is who gets what items. I didn't want the furniture a d decor she bought. You can buy bachelor grade furniture on Facebook .marketplace for pennies on the dollar and it won't have the bad memories. Things will need to be appraised. I suggest letting her have the things that will be passed down so she can deal with …

That's what they do. By the time you know, it's over and done with. Personally, I think they do it to get the upper hand. If you knew they were checked out you might leave them first

I was one of those guys. Even if you have a good one the bad ones will circle around and fill her head with crap until she thinks she's defective if she's not an evil batch. Of course once it's over and your lady is alone those friends will scatter because they were only interested in the drama.

99% of the time she's already done tbe hard work of severing the emotional ties before you even knew you were in trouble. They only realize they've missed you and want you back in the movies. Women are emotional. When they are done, they are freaking done.
/r/Divorce_Men27/11/23 09:15 AM

They were there. Other people saw them. She put on a mask for you. 33 years for me. It was painful to realize she was always this person but hid it from me because I paid for everything. Her elderly Mom will pass on soon leaving a nice pile of dough. With that and half of my 401k she doesn't need to pretend anymore.

/r/Divorce_Men27/11/23 08:36 AM

You've had an awful time. The forgiveness thing benefits you, not them. You don't want to tote that kind of weight around with you the rest of your life. It's like poisoning yourself with the expectation that they will get sick. I wish you and your son all the best.
/r/Divorce_Men27/11/23 08:30 AM
1

Yep. If you are unhappy and she refuses to work on it and go into counseling act sooner rather than later. If the two of you can't own your own bs in front of each other and forgive and forget you are doomed anyway.
/r/Divorce_Men27/11/23 07:13 AM
1

Why marry someone if this is your attitude?
/r/Divorce_Men27/11/23 07:09 AM
1

Nope. She'll ask to stay home because her coming inheritance will be her financial contribution. When the last parents death seems imminent she will file for separation and get half the marital assets. She will then keep her inheritance for herself so she does not have to put up with your bs anymore in order to be provided for.
/r/Divorce_Men27/11/23 07:09 AM
1

I guess it varies by state, but, what is yours before marriage is not usually a marital asset.
/r/Divorce_Men27/11/23 07:06 AM

Agree. Likewise, you should discuss the prenuptial when you discuss marriage and not blindside her with it the week of the wedding.
/r/Divorce_Men27/11/23 07:03 AM

They panicked and tromped all over your boundaries. Set some boundaries in advance and give them the option of observing them or staying home. They are your parents for crying out loud. You don't discard them because you have trouble getting along. Odds are you were no picnic to deal with as an adolescent. You were not perfect then, they are not perfect now. Do NOT cut them off without at least trying family therapy. That's the sort of wound that will hurt them for the rest of their days.
/r/Divorce_Men27/11/23 06:55 AM
1

If she wants her step-dad and you to walk her down the aisle you should honor that request because it is HER day and not yours. If she doesn't want you to walk her down the aisle at all I would consider sending a modest gift and not attending at all so she doesn't feel awkward. I also would not pay an equal share of the wedding if I paid anything at all.
/r/Divorce_Men27/11/23 06:46 AM

I believe that by the time a woman let's you know the marriage is over its been over for awhile. She made the decision long ago and set her mind to the task of severing the emotional and sentimental ties. I am sure there are exceptions. Take her word for it. Give her exactly what she wants in regards to the relationship and hire an attorney to protect the assets. I've been through it twice in my life. This happened at 33 years for me. I was not happy, with the relationship but not miserable for nearly 30 of those years. I honored my vows. Once she inherited enough money that she didn't need me financially she dumped me.

I agree. She probably checked out a while ago

Women don't care about marriage vows. Once they've 'checked out' emotionally they could care less about what they promised before God. It's all about their feelings.

Been there. She didn't want to work on it. Once she checked out emotionally it was all over.

Fist bump for owning it and being self aware enough to get help.

Absolutely. "Being Okay Regardless" is a worthy goal.

I stuck it out and mine bailed at 30 years and took half of everything.

Give it a try. If nothing else you might learn something that keeps you from making the same mistake.

Move. Time to start over.

Walk away from this with a superhuman drive to know peace whatever the cost. Something about this woman appealed to you enough to marry her. Figure that out with a therapist and fix it.

It's not about you. She will always cheat and it will always be about her own self loathing. Move on. The sooner the better.

Her pension balance and your 401k are both marital assets.

Wow. You nailed that one. Add disgruntled kids ( she was a wimp so I had to always be the bad guy) and her siblings with a grudge going back decades. When they see her stumble, they pounce on the opportunity. It's awful, life-wastijg melodrama.

Sooner she says it, the bigger the blessing.

The accusation isn't the problem. It just surfaced the real problem. It's a blessing in disguise. She doesn't want to work it out because she is done. It took mine 32 years to tell me. She'd felt that way for years. I wish I could have had those years to rebuild my life instead of starting over at 60. Be a gentleman, be kind and move along.

You are done. Nothing you say or do will ever be right because you, not her, are the source of all her issues in life.

Mine picked me because she wanted to stay home with the children. This worked because she has an inheritance coming that would offset the retirement savings from her working. I paid for everything and have very little left thanks to her not working and us having four children. Her surviving parent is very ill and now she wants a divorce. She gets half my piddly retirement and all her inheritance. I get to start my life over at 60.

She won't. She needs to play the victim and you've made that harder by being a Good Guy.
