I don’t think it’s just about social skills; rather, it’s more about one’s natural tendency towards either introversion or extroversion. Someone can have very good interpersonal skills but still suffer from social anxiety simply because of an inherent tendency towards introversion and getting overwhelmed easily. When people say that social skills are important to meet people, I think what they often mean is that they need to become more extroverted, which is a lot more difficulty than merely dev…

I have to say that I completely agree with OP on this; having seen so many TikToks about girls that “got the ick” regarding something really quite trivial that it makes me feel that I can’t afford to mess up and even the most trivial way for fear of losing someone and it’s just not good for my own mental health because I feel a constant and pervasive fear that if I hold my fork the wrong way or laugh a certain way or just do anything a certain way that is somehow offputting to someone that it wi…

The difference is that one’s specific height wasn’t immediately discernible in the past beyond a general observation that someone was tall, but before dating apps where listing your height was expected, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell whether a man was, say, 5’11” vs 6’ unless you looked at his driver’s license, whereas now someone might peremptorily dismiss a man who was 5’11” arbitrarily for the sole reason that they only swipe right on men who are at least 6’. Im this respect, one’s spe…

I think many men simply are less interested in other people’s personal lives and drama than women are. As someone who has always loved soap operas, which have always had a predominantly female audience, women gossiping and stabbing each other in the back is an extremely common recurring theme on pretty much every soap opera of all time. My mom and I love watching those kind of stories; like we’ll be saying to each other “can you believe Kyle slept with that bitch Audra?! He’s a manwhore. How cou…

As someone who has always wanted to have children, I absolutely could not have had them at 22 let alone 20… I mean you’re still in college at that point and haven’t even really begun your life in earnest and haven’t been able to start your career and really branch off on your own yet. In the 1950s, it might have been common to get married and have kids between 18-21, but these days, it’s very common to wait, and statistics back it up. In fact, parents who wait longer to have children are statist…

I mean, I don’t think it’s an appropriate question to ask how many people someone has slept with unless you’re already in a relationship and have a level of trust where you can talk about anything. So if you’re a virgin, you shouldn’t have to lie. I would just flat out say “I don’t feel comfortable discussing the number of people with whom I’ve had sex.”

It hasn’t seemed to hurt his prospects with women any, so if a guy’s main motivation for being jacked is to succeed better with women, I guess he doesn’t think there’s much point.

It is absolutely not a straw man fallacy. You are literally saying that women don’t want men who are “pussies.” You go on to define “pussies” as men who aren’t bold (i.e., are more reserved or introverted), or who talk too much about his feelings, so the examples I provided are essentially archetypes of the kind of men you claim women desire.

So, in other words, men have to be stoic, emotionally detached automatons who behave like John Wayne in The Searchers to get a woman’s respect. Got it. You would hate me.

This is the best response to a post I’ve ever seen here and I wholeheartedly concur.

Everything is driven by the ego; it’s beyond the scope of this discussion to delve into the psychology of the ego but it doesn’t take Sigmund Freud to tell me that if men are throwing away lots of money just so that an attractive woman will give them the time of day on TikTok, something is wrong on a fundamental level. This should not be happening in a society where people’s needs for social interaction are being met. There is an epidemic of loneliness in the United States, something The New Yor…

I think you’re wrong about the “if the potential of a lay isn’t there then most men wouldn’t validate”; I literally go onto TikTok all the time and see guys giving girls gifts who they must know they have no chance of ever having anything with. This past week, I’ve repeatedly seen this group of girls who have been sitting in a car all day and they rate guys’ profile pictures if you send them enough gifts. I don’t even follow any of them, but they keep showing up on my FYP. They literally don’t d…

Having a conversation to get explicit verbal consent at a moment when you’re trying to be passionate has a similar effect as trying to make a romantic proposal of marriage to someone while simultaneously asking her to sign a prenuptial agreement. It gives the whole thing a somewhat sordid, contractual feel, which conjures up images of lawyers and county clerks rather than hearts and flowers.

I genuinely could not possibly care less about whether someone has an interesting job. I usually wouldn’t want to talk about someone’s job unless it’s something that personally interests me, so I’d just as soon talk with a barista who makes coffee as I would talk to a cardiologist about how best to put in a stint. If someone’s personality isn’t interesting on its own, there won’t be much to talk about regardless of how interesting or dull one’s job may be.

Courtney Ryan could answer this question better than I can, but in short, it’s hypergamy.

I don’t really like dance music either, but I’m not likely to meet many girls at the philharmonic which is where I usually go to listen to music. I’ve never actually been to a club so I don’t really know what it’s like… my whole concept of going to clubs is based on movies and stories people post on reddit.

Ironically, the opposite has proved to be the case with me as I get older. When I was a teenager and in college and started using apps like Tinder, all I wanted was to find was a girlfriend to settle down with. I was never interested in going to bars or clubs. Like OP, I’m more introverted and also a musician so I just assumed I would find someone on an app. Now that I’ve been woefully unsuccessful after years of trying apps, I’m wondering if I squandered the best years of my life when I could’v…

The implication behind your statement is that women never consent to getting pregnant and having children, which is not true. Of course, many women have historically been pressured into motherhood, especially prior to the introduction of contraception methods; but nevertheless, a lot of women also choose to have children and would not consider themselves to be “breeding stock” and indeed would take umbrage at being referred to in that way.

With regard to the higher statistical risks of a baby being affected negatively by the father’s age, the article OP cited says says “For most men, these problems happen after the age of 50.” There’s a good deal of difference between being in one’s 30s and one’s 50s. Aging definitely ravages men and women alike, and I would never be one to say that anyone ages “like wine,” but it is nevertheless true that men have statistically about a decade longer to sire children than women have to conceive wi…

So “a woman’s character” is in your view, monolithic? Essentially, there’s no difference between, say, Kim Kardashian’s and Hillary Clinton’s character as far you’re concerned, they are both fundamentally the same by virtue of their womanhood and they are both suited to the same thing? The argument that all women are inherently suited for only specific kinds of work such as teaching and nursing is the kind of patronizing attitude I would expect from men in the Edwardian Era but not from a woman …

I wouldn’t call myself an addict; I never take anything I’m not prescribed and I never take a higher dose than what my doctor recommends, but at this point I have a physiological dependency on them. I’ve tried other medications but nothing works as well as what I take. I have started to reduce how much clonazepam I take, though, out of concern of needing an increasingly higher dosage. Anyway, I know this isn’t a medical advice subreddit, I just thought I’d clarify I’ve never used medications ill…

I have prescriptions for and take clonazepam and carisoprodol daily but I still have no luck with women on dating apps, so what am I doing wrong? Did this only work for you meeting people in person? If I’m going to be stuck on these drugs for the rest of my life then I might as well derive some ancillary benefit from them in the form of improving my dating life!
/r/PurplePillDebate27/05/23 03:25 PM

The whole mystique of the “single man, his dog, and a glass of whiskey” lifestyle, as you put it, is just as much of a myth as the happy cat lady trope. I blame John Wayne movies and America’s obsession with rugged individualism and “going it alone” for this glorification of loneliness. I concede that, culturally, men who remain single are probably seen in a more positive light than women who remain single, but that doesn’t mean that either are happier than the other. The fact is there will alwa…

Well, statistically I probably should’ve been married by now, but here we are. I appreciate your optimism that I’ll find someone, however. I don’t know what dating is like as a lesbian, but I thought you said you got tons of matches on the apps when you were using them, though, so what is it that has stopped you from finding someone there? Do the matches just not turn into dates or do you think there is something inherently superficial about the apps that makes them less useful for finding relat…

To an extent, I’m also content being single and doing solitary activities like reading, hiking, playing piano, but then there’s this part of me that has always fantasized about finding love and being in a relationship and it has just always seemed unattainable. I definitely have more feminine interests. I usually get along better with women than with straight men, but it’s always been on a platonic level. It’s just daunting to get started with joining clubs and things as someone who’s introverte…

I took a cursory look at your profile because your username intrigued me; coincidentally, I’m also a classically-trained singer as well as an INFJ. I have plenty of hobbies but I definitely don’t think of going out and socializing as being one of my strong suits. And, honestly, most of my friends and guys I know who have a background in classical music and/or musical theatre with whom I went to school are gay, which is not the milieu most conducive to meeting women. Perhaps if I were both more e…

It’s hard to have a conversation when the women I message with on apps seldom ever even read the messages I send. I literally pay for the read receipts on Tinder and I can see that weeks or months after matching and my having sent a message the same day that my message is still unread. What’s the solution to that? It’s not about being a poor conversationalist nor about lacking in other areas if someone likes your profile enough to match with you but then never deigns to read your opening message…

I think it’s misguided to conflate sex and intimacy. Just because they often occur together, they are not necessarily the same thing. Emotional intimacy is what often precipitates sex, but you can have sex without emotional intimacy and thus still be left feeling devoid of something necessary. And, indeed, according to psychologist Abraham Maslow who posited the theory of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs in 1943, intimacy is one of the fundamental needs humans have without which their wellbeing will …
